@tsaukpaetra that's an ad, not a suggestion
Ads are suggestions @ben_lubar . They're suggestions from the ad agency, especially when they're targeted (and with few exception so long as you're logged in you're targeted).
-
@tsaukpaetra they might be targeted for you, but they aren't targeted for you per video.
-

status: yes, I'm watching Minecraft videos Google. What makes you think I randomly want to watch a pimple Popper?
Because people who watch Minecraft videos also tend to watch pimple popping videos.

Told ya.

Status: Apparently Linq doesn't use the
LIKE
syntax anymore. Used to be that doing this:db.IMG_URLs.Where(x => x.URL.EndsWith("Whatever");
would give back:
Select URL from IMG_URLs WHERE URL LIKE 'Whatever%'
Now though, apparently it does this shit:
Select URL from IMG_URLs WHERE (( CAST(CHARINDEX(REVERSE(N'/' + CASE WHEN ('Whatever' IS NULL) THEN N'' ELSE 'Whatever' END), REVERSE([Extent1].[URL])) AS int)) = 1)
WTF?
-
@ben_lubar said in The Official Status Thread:

The fact that it's in an area called "Suggested Videos" that literally changes every video (even when revisiting the same video later!) seems to indicate otherwise

Yes, that's what I suspect the version check is doing. At least I was able to take the training in HTML mode, just had to click through that warning on EVERY SINGLE PAGE.

Dammit Visual Studio!!! Stop restarting when you crash. I clicked Close. You crashed. And now you're restarting on the wrong screen. JUST. STOP. IT.

Status: there was a reorg 2 months ago, many left or moved. There was one again today! this time with downsizing our team and most were moved to other teams in the parent org. I am staying, along with fewer than a handful all in the high age percentile. I am not sure if it is good, i think i need to diversify my talent.

My favorite is when it freezes and I get options to do nothing, close it, or restart it.

When they say "below", what they really mean is "below or above" the hardcoded version.

:D That's how our "out of date" detection currently works! Actually, it's a string equality comparison...

@tsaukpaetra Wait, Oh shit! Which one of those "Security Updates" is the one that installs the GWX app??? This unit certainly can't install Windows anything-above-8.0...

Time to batten down the hatches again.
By creating a read-only file - named perfc - and placing it within a computer's "C:\Windows" folder, the attack will be stopped in its tracks.

No mettle this evening, the guy cancelled.
Maybe it's better this way. His CV was very meh.
Boss doesn't seem to have anyone else scheduled who passes his sniff test. And the 3 developers we are trying to replace leave at the end of week. It's gonna be fun.

We've been looking for new people for months. Only 1 candidate made it past the initial barriers. Didn't make it past the onsite interviews. Finding good senior C++ people is ... difficult.

That used to happen all the time with the Insider builds. Then it stopped. With the last update, I saw it come back - but only on one machine. ???

That's the good thing about C and C++, low competition.

Applying a tsql script. it fails. I look. everything is commented out.
why is it commented out?
/* =============================================================== /* /* ====== UPDATES TO TABLE: WTDWTF_SUXXORS ======================= /* /* =============================================================== /*
Let's list close that comment by moving a simple slash
/* =============================================================== /* /* ====== UPDATES TO TABLE: WTDWTF_SUXXORS ======================= /* /* =============================================================== */
.... that didn't fix the problem? everything after that is still commented out?!
/* =============================================================== /* /* ====== UPDATES TO TABLE: WTDWTF_SUXXORS ======================= /* /* =============================================================== */ */ */
.... no, SSMS still says everything is commented out. DAFUQ
/* =============================================================== /* /* ====== UPDATES TO TABLE: WTDWTF_SUXXORS ======================= /* /* =============================================================== */ */ */ */ */
.... Apparently multiline comments can nest according to SSMS
-
@accalia If every line is individually commented why not just use --?
-
@accalia I suppose she wears half of Dio's colors, but that still seems like an unusual reaction image.

In violation of the SQL standards, too.

@raceprouk I'm mostly just curious about how an image such as that could have come to be. Is the homonculus in question somehow reminiscent of the infamous villain?

Drawing blood from a contractor is normally frowned upon in the workplace.

No, I figured it would get ignored anyways.
This isn't the installed version of Skype, just the one available at web.skype.com I use when someone decides they really want Skype instead.
