Well, everyone usually just uses But I have the original!
Still somewhat disappointed that eight-pointed-black-star is no longer orange.

I think I still have one of those somewhere. I wonder how many years it's been since I last used it. It probably hasn't had a cable plugged into it in a decade, and I suspect it sat connected but unused for a while before that.

In my field and level of experience, most jobs prefer a master's, and some require it. At my age, I'm not likely ever to get one.

Electricity. I forgot there are multiple kinds of "mains" :P

Usually most of my comments are completely ignored though!
I guess this is what I get for a nominally popular video, I don't think there are even 100 comments total on the video yet. (I guess that's also why mine got featured, it's certainly seeing more activity than all the rest...)

@loopback0 Does Firefox 22 even fit on a floppy?
50MB. =( Maybe I can pare it down and get it on a ZipDisk.
ZipDisks have a 100MB capacity ("How to hold 70 floppy disks in the palm of your hand."), so it should fit just fine, no paring needed.
Is that a Hall of Mirrors Kevin Bacon?

There's a surprisingly large amount of idle time in between runs.
For all the years they've been doing this you'd think they'd have a staging area or something in order to get people prepped and set up. Like, how hard is it to stash your stuff on a movable cart and wheel it in when it's your turn?
Fully half of the video is just nothing happening....

@Tsaukpaetra I always hate watching any unedited Youtube videos. I saw one for Unity where the guy sat there and filmed himself installing it and then spent five minutes trying to find where he'd put the assets he planned to use.

If at least one of those sides is cellular you can just cut the calls. Everybody will blame crappy mobile connection.
-
@Luhmann I don't even have to restart Asterisk, I need to restart my own service. But if I do it in the middle of a call it's likely going to be missing from the CDRs, and knowing my luck someone is going to need those exact ones at some point.
-
STATUS Actually happy. Inforwars is doing coverage of Trump's Inauguration. Their election night coverage was the funniest thing I saw in a long time. This I hope will be as good.

@Onyx You could pretend to be a network engineer. Just restart the whole thing and force terminate all the calls, then claim that you changed nothing at all and that it is all imaginary or problems with someone else's equipment.

:overlyhelpfulguy.gif: You know that's why "core restart when convenient" was invented, right? :pYes. I was. Again, what I wanted to restart wasn't Asterisk, it was my own custom service that does a bunch of realtime shit, and also records its own CDRs. The problem is, restarting it after channels were bridged means it doesn't have enough info to properly save the data for that call.

Status: post morteming a fucked up deployment.
Results: I shouldn't have scheduled it for so close to the start of business hours, when we lock users out we should allow administrators in, and I'm getting really pissed off with the bugs that keep showing up in live but not test.
Results that I should keep to myself: as a developer, the planning and support of an update shouldn't really be part of my remit. I was basically a go between for infrastructure and testers, and the one to say "yeah, this isn't working. Lets roll back"

Status: So, I had to hand in a budget for the Physics department. Considering that I had 250€ in repairs last year, I wrote down "500 €" as a cautious estimate for repair needs this year.
I just opened a device I hadn't touched since the move into our new building and the lamp inside it fell out, must've been shaken loose out of its socket (not a bulb you screw in). And, of course, the glass is now spiderwebbed.
So I had a look at what a replacement bulb would cost.
508€.
I hope nothing else breaks this year.

Cordless phones I could understand. But security systems? I got this hand-me-down Lynx unit from Honeywell and even that free unit has a backup battery.
Nah, sounds like a prank, they ended up targeting only two houses it seems.

Because raisins? It's also where the power meter is, so maybe they decided "eh, the power is coming in right here, might as well distribute it from here as well. After all, who knows what (room on the other side of the wall) might be used for!"?

Your house must be brand spanking new with nothing in it...
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

I've rarely seen a US house that didn't do that. Even in the uncommon case that the distribution panel is elsewhere, the main disconnect is outside and accessible, because that's where the electric company shuts you off if you don't pay your bill (and then locks it, so you can't turn it on again).
