The Official Status Thread

AFAIK it's extremely rare. we're also pretty darned open about the fact that there are dogs in the office, at least some of the time. it's one of the prescreening questions HR asks.
-
Wouldn't bother me, anyway. I like dogs.
-
I like dogs.
Not all people who like dogs are good people, but I cannot think of one person who said that they did not like dogs who was not also an asshole.
-
Shamus Young had a post not too long ago where he said he's allergic to something other than dander and just a regular vacuuming doesn't solve the problem for him. That seems to be fairly rare, though.
Sounds odd indeed -- has he seen an allergist about this yet?
-
Status: Hoping my wife hasn't spoiled the surprise today. My mom is flying in tonight, and we've managed to keep the secret from my kids for the past month. My wife has almost ruined it a couple times, so keeping my fingers crossed that she holds it together today. I can't wait to see their reactions in the morning!

I don't recall if he said he had.

Status: Compiling competitive salary info and overtime information powerpoint... For my annual review. Why yes, I'm making a Powerpoint. I might even post it.

Status:
Glad it's the weekend after getting extremely agitated at the end of the work day.
Thinking I might need to look into getting a new job, really not liking how the current big project that is getting dropped heavily on me is direly important and that this client may be the primary source of income for the company now since the client that was is now scaling back how much work they're giving, and yet my boss is still solely focused on that other client and practically not at all on the one he's stressing is key to us now.

Assholes can be good people, too.

Status: Belgium it, playing Shadow of Mordor.
Status: Just beat Shadow of Mordor. A bit disappointed that the "final encounter" is a quick time event, but that's right after a mêlée with 5 captains and a bunch of grunts (plus 5 converted captains fighting on your side) so I won't really complain.

Status: caught up on the status thread, and it looks like most of the Xmas presents I've ordered have been dispatched…
-
Waiting for the sheets to dry...
-
You're STILL wetting the bed?
-
Status: report to new job tomorrow. Kinda worried, kinda slack. Hopefully more slack than worried.
-
Status: My taste buds love Sambal, my digestive tract does not.
-
Oh, man, I haven't had any of that in a while. Love that stuff.
-
status. seeing how many times i cna change my avatar before Xmas (i appear to be rate limited on my ideas for what to do with my N7 and my paint.NET skills more than the amount of time between now and 2512

I had not had any for a long time either, but yesterday we went in to an Asian grocery store and I saw it there for $1.69 for an 8 oz jar so I stocked up. This morning I am paying for it.

Tonight I dreamed I had a time machine and went to the future. But it was not just a few unconnected images like most dreams, it was like being inside a Hollywood movie, I could still remember the whole plot when waking up.
The future was a really cool place with black walls and neon-like lights in cool patterns illuminating them. Also there were shops. That's basically all I know about it.

So the future is a Tron mall? That is disappointing.
-
Well that's just a part of it. The future's a pretty big place.
Also these lights could teleport you or something, I wasn't sure how to use them but I knew they did something.
-
The good news is that they're predicting the next set of quests to be released in January. I bought the season pass.

Status: Dishwasher installation guy is here. Hoping he doesn't shut off the power to the entire house without telling me like my dad did that one time.
-
How well is your breaker box labeled?
-
Probably about three quarters of the breakers have labels. Still, even if the breaker for the dishwasher ends up being one of the unlabeled ones, I'd like to be able to shut down my computers cleanly before the power gets cut.
-
Status: Accepting self-signed certificates when my company has a CA they could use to issue them :psyduck:
All right, come on, why is that not an emoji here?
-
That seems to be all the emoji on here.
Also, Emoji are Unicode characters and I don't think there's a Unicode character for "broken image".
-
Try again.
-
All right, come on, why is that not an emoji here?
Is that really a thing? Not that being a thing seems to be a requirement for emoji generally.

Feature Request: "Broken Image" emoji.

Also the site the wiki links to is apparently blocked due to: Malicious Sites, Internet Services

Status: Looks like another day of fixing Linux builds, which mostly means watching the build server churn and then fail 30 - 45 minutes later.

Rule 34b: if it exists or can be imagined, there is a Unicode character for it

I wonder if the labels you have are accurate... My apartment is so badly wired that some lamps/sockets are using the phase from one breaker and the neutral from another one. So when I need to do any kind of electrical work I shut the main circuit breaker down.

And your landlord is too cheap to fix this why? That sort of crap's a code violation...

Status: this place gave me 3 1080p monitors without me even having to ask. Wow. Could not be more different than the previous place I worked.
-
i had to ask for my third one here, of course the answer was 'sure, 22" or 24". i can give you the 22 today or you'll need to fill out a bit of paperwork if you want the 24" and i can get it to you next week.'
now that i've used this setup for a bit i'm never going back. in fact i'l seriously thinking of going to 3 monitors on my home rig.
-
Here, for contractors, if you watch carefully for another contractor to leave, you can steal yourself a second monitor. I managed to nab a 1600x1200 IBM monstrosity months ago.
It's also similar to my home setup, where I have a 2560x1080 next to a 1920x1200.

Damn. Now I am officially jealous.

That is the way it should be. Monitors are the cheapest, easiest way to boost productivity. Considering the cost of labor, it only has to save a few hours over the life of the monitors to recoup the money.

512MB DDR?
damn that's an old computer they gave you!
they could have at least sprung for DDR2
-
Going back to DDR1 is not going to help with productivity...

Is that better @chubertdev? You cheeky bastard.
