You can mute tabs in Chrome, assuming you mean the airplane-taking-off volume notification sound.

After Trump, who can get excited about Brexit again? British politics is boring again.

@cartman82 Mate Brexit was a like the prequel for Trump.
In 2000 years time (if the Human race is still about). The Brexit movie will be like the movie 300 and the Trump vote will be like "300: rise of an empire". Boris Johnson is confused with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Here is a taster:
There will be slow motion voting sequences where the 300 tried to vote against the "hordes of the SJWS". They will be doing back-flips over protesters and shit. Nigel Farage portrayed by a guy in his 20s with chiselled abs is leading the charge against the SJWs with an AK47 which is considered an authentic voter weapon in 2016.
Brexit happens, the Persian empire that includes France and German goes into disarray.
In late 2015. The legions of SJWS (from Persia) then cross the narrow sea to "Americana". A new statesmen is appointed his name is "Trumpicles". He summons an Army of voters by doing speeches and mass rallies throughout the land. He wins decisively in the senate but not the popular vote.
Massively outnumbered he manages a number of incredible victories against the SJW horde. He then sends out new diplomats to affected countries to do new trade deals.

@TimeBandit Thanks for the tip.

Status: Just got out of a sitewide meeting thing, where a subject was brought up that has specific meaning to me: They mentioned that in the new office, they're going to pay special attention to the docking stations, because apparently devs have more powerful machines (measured, I can only imagine, in single-digit percentages).
This is interesting to me because clearly they've identified a problem we've had for more than a year: the new laptops devs have been given require a 12A power supply, and will throttle their CPUs (very noticeably, mind) on encountering less. All laptops before this, and therefore all power supplies throughout the company, are 9A.
When a new person is hired here, they are handed two power supplies: one for in the office, one for at home. A year ago, I discovered the throttling issue because one of my power supplies was the weak kind. We fixed the problem and thought we were good.
But just recently, people had reason to work from home. Including some new hires. All of them had been given 9A power supplies, and had no idea why their machines were running horribly.
It has been a year. I would have expected something to be done. But no, nothing. When I brought it up in the meeting, they told me to talk to my manager to deal with problems I'm having.
Thanks, enterprisey monstrosity.

Brexit happens, the Persian empire that includes France and German goes into disarray.Here is the reality - no one cares about Brexit other than Brexit voters. Especially not British politicians.
They'll drag their feet and wrap the whole thing in so much red tape, the post-Brexit reality will look pretty much the same as before. Especially as far as the really important people are concerned (corporations).
In 2000 years Brexit is trivia or forgotten. Arcane knowledge known only by the royal historians' on Immortal Emperor Trump's court.

@cartman82 When I compared Brexit to Thermopylae do you think I was being realistic?

@cartman82 said in The Official Status Thread:

That's not quite true. There are a few True Believers or, as we like to fondly call them, “fucking idiot asshole government ministers”. There are some other politicians who care because they think it is their ticket to the gravy train. Unfortunately, it seems that neither of the preceding two groups could plan their way out of a wet paper bag, and that's why Brexit is such a disaster. I'd like to lock the whole lot of them in a barn and set a hungry pack of wild pigs on them.
Things are more interesting once you look at the general population among the Brexit voters, there are several types. Some genuinely want it (@lucas1 is probably one of this group). However, some voted for it as a way of saying “fuck you” to the political establishment, hoping that it would lead to a change for the better for them, or at least to them being listened to more. (“Haha lol nope” seems to be the actual response from the political establishment.) Quite a few of those people (but by no means all) are regretting it; current polling indicates that there are approximately 5 times as many people who voted Brexit and would now Bremain as there are the other way round, meaning that a repeat referendum (using current opinions) would be a strong win to not leave.
It's all a complicated mess.

He called the man Nigel Farage which is never Barraged.
Now the Donald is now the Untroubled.

(9~12)A * 20V = TRwhat do you stick in a laptop to burn that much power? Perhaps the supply's specs are in no-name chinese metric units?

Amperage? That sounds technical. And anything technical is difficult.
Let's talk about the color of the power supplies instead. I think the blue ones will go nicely with the new office decor.

@Lorne-Kates Nope. I don't do that, you guys do. It not my fault you guys cant control heat, or season shit properly.

Sure thing. Enjoy that chewy husk of meat with your big, heaping side-dish of DENIAL.
-
@Magus
Then I presume it's all Dell parts and it's not chinese units. It could be 'genuine charger' BS as corps often do, have you tried a universal laptop charger thing to see how it fares? or seen other cross-charger behaviour scenarios in your workplace?
-
@bugmenot As far as I can tell, it's just this laptop model that has an issue, and other people online reported it, which is how we tracked down what was causing it.
