Status: Why is a general-purpose GUI toolkit called "Windows Forms" anyway? Does anyone call windows "forms"?
- It's pretty hard to name a windowing framework because all the obvious names were taken years ago.
- Windows Forms actually has the concept of a "form" which isn't necessarily a window. (Although probably 95% of the time there's a 1:1 relationship between forms and windows.)

+1, Formed a Form within a Form. 'course, many people on the internet told me I was but Meh.

My memory might be fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure Delphi was calling them forms years before WinForms was introduced.

but it does make me leery of what might happen if I actually put it under heavy load.
Hard to say, it being so new. Every review I have read says that Intel says those numbers are operating within acceptable ranges (meaning you shouldn't have to worry about the device lifespan.)
It cools off quite fast when the load drops. I spent hours yesterday on GW2 and Minecraft, which were enough to spin up the fan (relatively) loud, and it didn't seem to have any problems.

You are a space trooper. Somehow you got to the enemy territory, and you should wait for your squad to get out of here! But only God knows when will they arrive to you! They will send you bonuses for killed enemies to longer your life till they arrive.

Considering that in order to publish to the store you basically have to rewrite your app unless it was already in .Net (which still doesn't guarantee compatibility)?
Is it any surprise few companies have ported their apps to Windows UWP?Not much longer and we can publish our Win32 apps in the store... Not sure whether to be thrilled or terrified.

I wonder.... if I package Task Manager with the Centennial app packager, will it be able to help me manage Hololens better?

You just reminded me that I should eventually look into getting another battery to replace the aging battery in my S5 once it ceases to be able to hold a decent charge.

I was going to look into doing that with my S2 a year ago, but then it decided to give up the ghost after about three years of service. Enter S5. S5 works fine until it bricks itself a couple months ago, within a week of the warranty expiring.
Given the timeliness of its failure, I was able to get a warranty replacement shipped, but I was without a phone for almost a week. Looking for a backup, I searched my closet and found my old Windows Mobile device from 2007. Not surprisingly, it started up just fine, and I noticed that those smartypantses at Microsoft had implemented a geometric password lockout scheme. I got up to a half-hour lockout before I remembered the password I hadn't used in about five years.

In theory. I'm certain other things are making slowness happen (since it's gotten even slower since then):
Actually, yes, thanks Windows Update, I'm totally not using my computer right now and immediately is an excellent time to make my computer go slowly!

@Tsaukpaetra That disk… she is not happy. Very very not happy. It is time that “retirement” was considered. I know that you like to keep old things alive, but this is really not one of those times; you are extremely close to data loss (BTDT).

Status: My caffeine-starved brain had weird dreams last night. I dreamed that I knew a few FBI agents and decided to prank them by setting up clues that I was actually a drug dealer and seeing if they'd notice or act on them. Then I set up a "drug deal" that was actually just a secretive transfer of a hundred pounds of M&M's. And the deal got raided by my FBI friends, but there were no drugs present and I thought it was hilarious.
(Preemptive pedantry: I don't think the FBI does drug investigations.)

@ben_lubar There's a bit more to it if Shadowcopy is enabled on the drive.
-
@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:

Yes, but it is still bad if it's using that much memory to do the copying. Either the various extra bits are small, in which case it shouldn't require much memory, or they're large, in which case they should be streamed over.
I suspect that the real problem is that that broken-ass disk is causing an unexpected failure mode in the program and triggering poor management of memory. Which would be silly, but not actively insane. The other alternatives would be TRWTF (aside from @Tsaukpaetra's failure to stop trying to make broken shit work, which is definitely TRTRWTF).

2020's and 30's? I rather hope so, and men in my family tend to live into their 90's, so it's fairly likely. 1920's and 30's, not so much; you're off by 30-ish years.
Edit: As for the picture, I didn't look at it that closely, and CBA to scroll up to find it again.
Edit 2: Jellypototo found it for me. I didn't look at the full-sized version, but it looks like Fields to me.

Status: So, one of my friends started a Delia in Vindictus. She's a new character who fights with a greatsword, has a cool parry skill, can animation-cancel one of her mid-dash attacks to begin a new dash instantly, and is all about delaying the followups on her best smashes to deal more damage and get a damage buff. Overall quite a cool character. She also has a skill that makes all her armor break in exchange for a massive (but temporary) buff, so she pretty much has two paladin transformations, which is kind of great.
I decided to play as Sylas, who looks 16, fights with ghost daggers, and does all the most edgy poses (His ultimate move is named Infinity Requiem, so, yeah, he's that kind of character). I made him as fat as possible, which isn't very, and he now looks somewhat less annoying. But he's seriously one of the most fun characters to actually play as, because he's a fast, mid-range combo-based magic attacker who has some decent party buffs. He also has a really long range dash that acts as a teleport, so you have a little bit more safety than some characters.
Works fairly well, I just throw phantom daggers and stay back, and when my friend dies, I run up and revive him without too much danger. Definitely one of the most fun classes.

I do that about once every five years or so. It's one of those rare instances of something that's both nostalgic AND fun.
I think I'm using one of the updated engines that adds smoother graphics, look up/down and jump.
