it's kind of like how Indian people will say "I have a doubt about [something]" instead of "I have a question"--dialectical issues, that is.

The confusion is understandable, but "doubt" isn't the right word. It suggests you don't believe whatever, not you don't understand whatever.

Just saw Independence Day.
I know I shouldn't have liked it. I did.
I await further sequelization.
It falls in the same movie category as The Purge. A completely senseless reason to eat popcorn and sit indoors instead of being outside where it's 100 fucking degrees.

@FrostCat nice to know. so, doubt is only used when you don't trust something?

Come on, Microsoft. A measly 5GB? What is this, 2010? And suddenly the bonus that was totally going to last forever doesn't seem like such a good idea. Why didn't you think of that before making the promises?
So I go from 30GB to 5GB. Good thing I didn't use it in the first place.Didn't they start with like Unlimited storage or something?
30GB was pretty good too, but 5GB is a joke.TIL never trust Microsoft's free service offers.

Okay, that is kind of unsettling.

@aliceif I don't sleep well...so up to 1 AM on a weeknight occasionally happens...but this much is very unusual.

@Karla Ugh, I empathise, not being able to sleep on weeknights sucks.

I don't like coffee...I use diet soda to get my caffeine fix. Bu I try very hard to deal with it early. If I have caffeine too late it may affect (goggle suggest Affect, I initially wrote Effect, I am probably wrong but in case I am not...I was right!) my sleep.. I did not do anything unusual with regard to caffeine.

You better not cry, that will come later as a consequence of eye-strain anyway!

That is a horrid one-box, even Google did it better!
Most of the time, you'll want affect as a verb meaning to influence something and effect for the something that was influenced.
So, Affect is correct in this instance. If you wanted to use Effect, it might have been written thus:
If I have caffeine too late it may have an effect on my sleep.

I read for two hours on average in near-darkness every night in order to go to sleep, eye-strain will be the last of my worries...

It's easy to do your pro-Linux rah rah rah cheerleading when you just make up lies about its capabilities.
Most people who parrot it have no idea how it would work, they've just been told by some evangelist that it's a reason Linux is better than Windows and have never thought about what it would mean (or aren't tech savvy enough to work it out)

Well, and there might be battery savings due to Doze, but that has yet to be researched, probably.

OTOH, I also totted up the total amount of utterly wasted time on the project due to screwing around by IT. 2 months down the pan because they simply could not get their shit together and provide systems that supported researchers, or even that supported people supporting researchers. At least in this case we've got agreement to carve the costs there out of their collective assesβ¦

Every single new build (yeah, fast ring) installs it.I wish there was some kind of permanent post-deployment script that would add the "Don't shove the stupid consumer apps onto the machine" registry entry (forgot what it's really called) after every
updatesystem in-place upgrade.

?Technically no. If it's on, it's on, off it's off. You get a bit of choice the period of when it's on/off, but not really.

Why don't you just give in and install Office. If it's like "get windows 10", that's supposed to stop the annoyance.
-
@TimeBandit said in The Official Status Thread:

Because that doesn't actually stop the App from being installed. For (probably tasty) raisins, I don't think Apps can detect which other apps are installed, especially "legacy" apps. Also, even if it could do so, I don't think an App can uninstall itself.
