Why the fuck would you use a GUI application written in Java? Just hate yourself I guess?
What are you talking about? Java is rad!
-
@Jarry said in The Official Status Thread:
because virtually all IDEs that aren't VS are written in java god knows why.
The second most popular one in the world, Xcode is not.
It... it didn't turn out much better than the Java ones.

@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:
@DogsB The "what was stopping you before?" was a legit question. Like, would you have been fired for writing tests? Would they have shot your dog? I'm curious.
After the unsolicited advice you gave me I have no intention of answering your questions.

I'll take that as a "nothing, I was just being stupid up until this morning also Blakeyrat, let me write you a check because I love you so much."

Maybe we should just consider any language that can be run on a cell phone dead.
-
@ben_lubar I'm for that.
-
@ben_lubar @blakeyrat I'd expect C# to work on windows phone?
-
@PleegWat Then out it goes.
Congratulations, you might be slowly getting the joke. Keep going.

@boomzilla Unbelievably, non-vegan beer is a thing. Although it's more like you dip the animal protein in the beer then pull it out again, so even that is a bit of a stretch if you ask me.
It's mostly just ales anyway. If your beer needs clarifying it doesn't have enough yeast in it.
I guess there's mead? I don't know, some people don't think honey is vegan. (yes it is shut up, the bees make plenty and have loads to spare. It's a business arrangement. Arguably modern sheep wool is also vegan by the same principle but who gives a fuck anyway.)
Oh shit, I forgot about oyster stouts. And rocky mountain oyster stouts. You can make beer with chicken broth, apparently. There's so much I'm learning and it's so terrifying.

It was a stop giving me unsolicited advice. If I wanted your advice I would ask. It would go something like this.
@blakeyrat You've done a lot of stupid stuff in your life. How do I avoid being as stupid as your are?
See what I did there? A question directed at you.

Go runs on iOS and Android. I knew this before making that post.

Embrace the stupid.

@Jarry said in The Official Status Thread:

Probably because they were created for Java.
We might hate Java now, but it was the first language to get nice tools and stuff.
(pedantic clarification: not literally the first language to have IDEs, obviously, but it was better in that category than the other popular ones)
-
@anonymous234 said in The Official Status Thread:

I don't hate it.
I think it does a lot of silly things... And I hate Oracle... but the language itself isn't too bad.
-
@anonymous234 said in The Official Status Thread:

Lies.
CodeWarrior for C and C++ was like 2 orders of magnitude nicer than any Java IDE well into the 2000s. (And before then, THINK C wasn't too shabby, either.)
Sure, Java IDEs might have beat-out Borland Builder, but Borland Builder was fried shit.

Oh, I believe it. I guess a swim bladder's not as awful as a bladder bladder, at least.
@AyGeePlus said in The Official Status Thread:

That sounds interesting. I'll bet @Lorne-Kates has made that before.
-
@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:

Breaded or beer battered?
-
@boomzilla said in The Official Status Thread:

The recipe calls for dates, nutmeg, mace, and raisins. Plus chicken broth and barley. Interesting.
-
@AyGeePlus said in The Official Status Thread:
mace
I prefer my beer without tear gas in it.
Also dates can be filed with raisins under

Question: Is there such thing as too stretchy mozzarella on a pizza?
If one end of a strand is in your stomach and the other is outside your mouth, it's too stretchy.

Didn't we try that on Discourse and discover it was full of holes?

I thought you could get Consolas for Linux.

I believe that was more to do with the Discourse plugin part than the Mathjax part

No, but you can get Inconsolata which is inspired by it

The markdown-ish syntax for mathjax is
$blah$
. When we turned on the mathjax plugin, every post that had a$
in it was suddenly broken. The plugin is unsupported, and no one was going to go back and escape every dollar sign in every Discourse post, so the plugin was removed with prejudice.

And their default configuration uses another one (i.e.
\(
and\)
)
-
@Rhywden So @RaceProUK was right, the problem was the plugin more than mathjax. Whatever, the end result was hilariously broken.
-
blatantly stealing @blakeyrat's schtick because this question deserves to be here:
He had given me one of his databases before and it completely went against what I was taught (and read about) in school for RDBMS. For example, he has entire databases that consist of one table (per independent database).
run like hell, and never look back
I want to improve this design, but I am not sure why a properly-normalized and segmented data model would actually improve this product. While I am familiar with database design from college and I understand how to do it, I am unsure why this actually improves databases.

@Rhywden said in The Official Status Thread:

Then I am utterly shocked that a Discoplugin decided to use this. Shocked.

I'd have thought ancient sheep wool was more so, since the animals naturally moult it and you can just pick it up.
-
@CarrieVS They moult modern wool these days.

Missing Right Parenthesis is the most bullshit error Oracle DB produces.
No, I fucking wasn't missing a right parenthesis, I was missing the word "and"

Okay, anyone thinking of importing OSM maps via osm2pgsql, better use an SSD.
I'm not sure what "going over pending ways" is supposed to mean but I'm moderately optimistic that it'll be done tomorrow morning.

Yes, but if it's his blog, he can just avoid doing stupid things with it. Assuming it only works with his posts and not with comments.

It was also possible to make the site unusable, which caused it to be instantly disabled. I don't remember the details and I can't find the thread where someone convinced me that none of you could be trusted with it.
-

That's hardly fair--you don't know what I would've done, because you disabled it before I even found out it was active!
Also, if I cared about your opinion of me I might be upset by what you wrote.

@DogsB I recognise that API, it's the amateur hour that is LinkedIn's, you have my sympathies.
The need for the X-li-format header because they're too retarded to handle Content-Type and Accept is not even close to the level of their retardary.

Status: The best part about the title system is that it's entirely the fault of the person being offended that they are offended. Which is great for everybody involved, including the offended person.
