STATUS I got an unsolicited WhatsApp text that may or may not be from a marketer.
Hi, how are you?
The fat fold protruding from the bottom of my t-shirt is sunburnt. Thanks for asking. It's been an hour. I may never hear from them again.

wifi can still be activated and used.
That's not what I expected airplane mode to do.Given that some airplanes now provide Internet access over WiFi (for an extra fee, of course), I guess that was inevitable.

@Zenith Just super. First guy never responded. Two other people have a decent price but they're those sort of clowns that want you to sign up for some app with access to your bank account because God forbid they use anything that sends invoices and takes credit cards. You know, stuff that's convenient for the customer that you want money from? So here's hoping following up with the first guy produces a better result.
Seriously, am I from fucking Mars or something? What in the world is more convenient for everybody than a credit card? Besides literal cash, at least in person, anyway.
Why does everybody, buyer and seller alike, insist on an app with direct access to a bank account that's not compatible with any other app that does the same thing, thereby forcing everybody to have half a dozen different apps just to exchange money? It's not like they're avoiding a transaction fee either.
Edit: Damn it. First guy has a better price but is still an app clown.
-
@Zenith Sure, you can give this random app your bank credentials, the exact thing that you're never supposed to do. You can trust that the app won't snoop around, do anything malicious, or ever get hacked. After all, what else are you going to do, use Paypal like some boomer caveman?
-
@hungrier And I see this bullshit from the other side too. I use Square and Stripe for business payment processing. You think I can get anybody to pay those invoices with a credit card? Nope! PayPal or nothing because reasons. A credit card is the most ubiquitous payment method out there besides cash (and checks but holy shit do people go into seizures when you mention them) and all anybody wants to do is complicate the process.
-
@Zenith I sympathise. But also now imagine the fun I have of doing bank transfers with Stripe because ain’t no one putting down the kinds of money in my app in a regular credit card.
-
@Arantor When I still went to shows in Jersey, I had so many people demand that I sign up for PayPal just to pay me in person. They wouldn't get cash out of the ATM 50ft away or swipe a card through a Square Reader.
Here's what the first guy said in response to A) asking if they were close enough for me to drive and pay cash and B) asking why people and businesses won't touch credit cards:
"Most person has had terrible issues using credit card payments, that’s why most of us resulted to the other payment option.
I’m in Austin, I wouldn’t suggest you drive down- shipping will be a lot more easy and stressful."Dude, credit card payments aren't the only thing you have "terrible issues" with. English, for starters.

Firefox will now automatically upgrade requests for audio, video, and image subresources from HTTP to HTTPS in secure content, and block HTTP requests for other kinds of media. If an upgraded request fails because the media's host doesn't support HTTPS, the media is not found.
I'm sure this won't leave anyone anywhere confused.

@hungrier said in The Official Status Thread:

Paypal is like the second worst possible thing you could do, right after "downloading random app and giving it your bank credentials". Seriously, why people still use that is beyond me. Hasn't it been like, what, 20 years now that PayPal has proven it acts completely arbitrarily and can withhold your money anytime it wants?
@Zenith said in The Official Status Thread:

-
@topspin Oh, believe me, I'm no fan of PayPal. I only tolerated it to sell on eBay. Might've overlooked it if they weren't so inconvenient* for multi-channel sellers though.
But at least PayPal doesn't require your customers to open an account to pay you. You can just use a credit card. That's why I'm so baffled by this insane resistance to paying a Square or Stripe invoice via credit card. Are people really saying "oh, I could instantly buy this and have fraud protection from Visa/MasterCard on top of PayPal....but I'd rather sign up for yet another snowflake service, give them my name, address, SSN, and banking credentials, and in 24-48 hours, after they do the deposit-withdrawal verification dance, send my own money with no fraud protection at all?"
*PayPal's inconvenience mostly stems from their initial P2P setup linked to e-mails that doesn't scale. If I want to sell on multiple platforms with PayPal, I basically need separate accounts with separate e-mails. Stripe (not sure about Square since it doesn't integrate anywhere) has sub-accounts via API keys with their own settings.

If clickbait article and YouTube titles have taught me anything, there are overlapping groups of people who don't have bank accounts, don't trust/trust themselves with credit cards, and/or do everything with their phones. These people use these apps for payments since they only require a cell phone number. Digital scrip is good enough for them.

Status: It seems clear my mental status is degrading. I just spent the last 6.4 hours attempting to code, and barely ended up with a first-draft-quality struct/class definition for templating the interface for my arduino keyboard thingy.
Mind, this is the header for the struct, no actual code has been written.
(for the curious, it's this)
#include <inttypes.h> #ifndef devIF_class #define devIF_class struct devIF { virtual bool begin() = 0; virtual void loop(){}; virtual bool isReady() {return true;}; virtual bool isEnabled() { return true;}; virtual bool setEnabled(bool enabledState) {return true;}; virtual bool isKeyboard() {return false;} virtual bool isMouse() {return false;} virtual bool canRawHID() {return false;} virtual bool canNKRO() {return false;} virtual bool setHIDKeystate(uint8_t key1 = 0, uint8_t hid2 = 0, uint8_t hid3 = 0, uint8_t hid4 = 0, uint8_t hid5 = 0, uint8_t hid6 = 0, uint8_t modifiers = 0){return isKeyboard();} virtual bool sendMouseUpdate(int16_t x_move, int16_t y_move, int8_t scroll_v, int8_t scroll_h,uint8_t buttons) { return isMouse();} //Ready, KeyboardLEDs (high bit is whether LEDs were updated) void (* HostStateUpdated)(bool, uint8_t) = 0; }; #endif

Status: What the fuck is going on?
My program is suddenly failing to read a number that it wrote itself earlier today. First I thought it's some dumb locale issue I've been stumbling over this week1, but it's not that.
So for a hacky test I put this somewhere in main:
errno = 0; std::string s = "4.32494e-316"; char* end = nullptr; double res = strtod(s.c_str(), &end);
and it parses it just fine. Then later on in the program I pass this exact string to
strtod
and it gives me ERANGE. The locale hasn't changed in between, and I doubt the number of bits in a double has, so what is different?!
1 The docs of
setlocale
say that it defaults to "C" locale, so I shouldn't need to do anything. But the QApplication constructor silently sets it to user locale. The curious thing is why this is failing now, when it hasn't failed for a decade and I've always run this on German locale.

I'm not making a keyboard.
Edit: Also, apparently ZMK doesn't support any microcontroller I currently have.
