okay so i have this stored procedure that's failing.... why?
.... hmm... odd it calls a CLR function....
that CLR function does..... a unparameterized inline SQL select... and then feeds a couple of fields from the select into a.... SQL stored procedure?!
and that sql stored procedure.... turns around and calls a different CLR function to insert a record?!
and THAT CLR function.... oh no.... goddess! no! save me!... it calls a SQL stored procedure in a different database...
and that remote stored procedure then turns around, dowes a thing ot two and..... CALLS A CLR FUNCTION ON THE ORIGINAL DATABASE?!
..... i.... i don't want to work on this code base anymore.

Speaking of which…

Status: Just cooked a real meal for maybe the last time in this house. Looking through the food on hand, what I need to use up, and what to leave for my guest. (I really don't want to take any refrigerated or frozen food — too hard to keep cold on the long drive, and not really anything to do with it when I get there.) Found extra packets of Trader Joe's mandarin orange chicken sauce in the freezer. I had two cooked chicken breasts in the refrigerator. Cooked up the last of the rice I had on hand, cut up one chicken breast, heated up some oil in a skillet, stir-fried the chicken to heat it through, and squirted a packet of orange sauce on it. Not terrible.
Hmm, maybe not my last cooking. I'll probably scramble some eggs, or something, before I go. Eh, whatever.

@cartman82 Given I'm a few years behind on the web dev shit, but HTML attributes still allow single quotes, correct? Just do that. Considering it's in the SGML standard, the XML standard, and the HTML standard, I'm doubting very much they've removed it from HTML 5.latest. Especially since they've been doing basically everything to make it MORE compatible with XML.
Great, now do it for JSON.

I had planned to continue renting my house for (at least) the three months of my initial contract, then figure out what to do then based on whether and for how long the contract is extended. However, at the last minute my landlord said "no" to getting a house-sitter.
Wat?
How is this in any way his business? As long as you're paying him, it's your place.
I mean, if you want to have some friends over, do you need the landlord's permission?
-
@cartman82 it's subletting, when it's longer than a set period (3 weeks in his case).
It's not allowed where I live.
I think it's a responsibility thing, who has the responsibility when shit goes down and an apartment is sublet 20 layers?
You can obviously allow it, but it seems dumb.

I am un-jQuery-ing things. "Lets import a whole library to use a selector engine and event handling because we can't be arsed to learn what is already in the browser".
-
@lucas1 Sometimes it's not about "not knowing" but about "if I have to type
getElementByClassName
one more time I'll strangle someone" and "hey, does anyone know why this shit doesn't work in IE? Oh, use that, ok... wait, now it breaks in FF, ok, fallback to this and... Chrome, WTF, why doesn't it :tableflip:"
-
document.querySelectorAll('.className');
Works back to IE8.
window.$ = document.querySelectorAll.bind(document); $('.className');
-
Wow. NodeBB is sure fast. Zoom zoom. Only took about 15 minutes to open this thread and post.
To paraphrase Douglas Adams, the thing about software that's designed to go really fast is that when it inevitably breaks and goes real slow you realize they never bothered to put spinners on anything.
-
@lucas1
document.querySelector
anddocument.querySelectorAll
for the table flipping win!
-
@lucas1 I expected the "just write your own wrapper" thing to pop up. So, once I'm done with all that I'll waste oodles of time and rewrite half of jQuery. Seems like a worthwhile effort.

Mine is the same way. Have to manually adjust it. I guess that's probably better given that it's not designed to get updates in case that sort of thing changes. Probably way over complicated for the benefit, though I always thought that it should sync up to the phone's time when connected by bluetooth.

@ben_lubar We lost that game so hard :/
-
@ben_lubar: I'm guessing the rate-limiting experiment wasn't a success, huh? :P
-
@RaceProUK it's hard to rate limit through nginx when one page load can trigger hundreds of HTTP requests and one HTTP request can open a websocket that can send thousands of requests.
-
Is anyone still running an autoliker targeted at the Likes thread? The cooties resumed almost immediately after I moved that back out to where it can be seen.
-
Look I ain't getting into an argument. Most of what jQuery used to provide is now in the browser and it is consistent cross browser. So I would say no you wouldn't have to rewrite jQuery functionality, just use the built in functions unless you are supporting legacy browsers. At the end of the day use what you want if it works.
