disabling a truly worrying number of security features
can't actually let them log in
Sounds like it's doing them a favour.
-
Sounds interesting.
Basically, it adds a picture of a tribble to the page similarly to cornify, only instead of adding a new tribble every time the function is called again, it adds a new tribble for each tribble already on the page. And it's called onmouseout of any tribble rather than onclick.
I might publish it for general amusement, if I can figure out how (I thought gitHub might be a sensible platform, but first I have to learn how to use Git).
If anyone has artistic skills I could use some better pictures of tribbles (that are legal to reuse, obviously). I cobbled some together with one of the brush tools in Paint and a free tool to make the background transparent, and they're dreadful, but the best I could do.

If it's just one file, you can create a Gist on GitHub and share that; no knowledge of
git
needed
-
If it's just one file
There's a selection of image assets that would need to be somewhere the script knows about.
-
Do you know SVN? You can use that with GitHub.

The contractor company says they can't pay me for the last weeks I worked because there will be man month loss due to the new guy adjusting.
Fuck those guys. That isn't legal, is it??
-
-
Kinda. Not sure how to put anything into my shiny (and empty) new GitHub repo with it though.
I could do with learning Git anyway, really. My ignorance of commonly-used IT stuff is quite shameful for someone of my profession.

Hey I wonder if NodeBB has a feature where some dickhole can go into a thread about demoralizing places to work and ask whether NodeBB has an emotes feature even though there's already like 57 topics on this forum dedicated to answering NodeBB questions and then Blakeyrat has to waste his time putting in a flag to get the post moved?
-
Probably. If not, the devs are quick to implement new features.
-
If you're on Windows, look at the GitHub for Windows client; it should take the pain out of it for you, at least for a simple repo like your tribble one will be.

GitHub for Windows client
take the pain out of it
I've used that thing like twice and it made me want to hurt every person who'd ever worked on it.

Pretty much, yeah.
Thing is, who's sending such fucked-up URLs in the first place?

Dunno, does the app allow free-form text, and does it get shoved directly into the request?
Sounds like this was supposed to be a POST but accidentally got sent as a GET...
-
It looks like it was utf8_encode'd like twenty times.

If I have time, I might look into it more; right now though, I have bigger fish to fry...

**Status:**strong text trying to figure out how to respond to this actual question from an actual customer:
Why am I not seeing the direct deposit deduction in the check stub?
There is nothing on the stub that indicates there was a direct deposit made?Apparently he's concerned that his employees are too stupid to be handed a piece of paper that says "NON-NEGOTIABLE DEPOSIT ADVICE" and realize that the net amount listed on the statement is the amount of the direct deposit deduction without ALSO seeing it listed at the top, with the other deductions like taxes.
Mr. Babbage, are you able rightly to comprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question?
-
Damn it, where's my micro USB cable? I need my nicotine fix but the battery in my cigarette ran out!
Wait, it's 2016, and you pought a pen e-cig instead of a mod with replaceable 18650 cells? They're not that expensive anymore.
I hope you have pass-through at least...

respond to this actual question from an actual customer
Coincidentally, there was a corporate blast regarding something similar to this today. Apparently people aren't expected to understand what "retroactive payment" means in the context of a merit increase being applied to past earnings (now that things are finally finalized).

Status: my iPod SD-to-HDD adapter finally arrived.
Good news - iPod recognizes the SD card, seems to be syncing just fine.
Bad news:
I'm not very good at being delicate.

Apparently people aren't expected to understand what "retroactive payment" means in the context of a merit increase being applied to past earnings (now that things are finally finalized).
Listen, I guaran-damn-tee people understand the concept of back pay. I could put you in touch with people who could tell you endless stories about the dumbest union members who can manage to argue endlessly about the exact-to-the-penny piecework amount they thought they were cheated out of.
-
my iPod SD-to-HDD adapter finally arrived.
They MAKE such a thing?! Kinda want!
Listen, I guaran-damn-tee people understand the concept of back pay.
Not arguing that, just saying that apparently HR doesn't believe so.
The email also detailed how said users weren't supposed to be using links to the username-and-password login screen (of said timecard app), and instead use the Single-Sign-On link provided in the corporate home page (granted, they should have made it a bit bigger, small screens and all that:
Oh, and this:

Not arguing that, just saying that apparently HR doesn't believe so.
If your HR department doesn't understand that, then your HR department is hopelessly inept.

$40 for a two-card version. I've always wanted a classic iPod, but I had to return one of them back to sender already because the HDD got shot in transport.

Wait, it's 2016, and you pought a pen e-cig instead of a mod with replaceable 18650 cells? They're not that expensive anymore.
Not a pen but no replaceable batteries either:
Basic, but does the job.
I hope you have pass-through at least...
Tried it, not my thing.
-
Not a pen but no replaceable batteries either:
...huh, with this form factor you'd think it would house a replaceable cell.
If it does the job it does the job, but if you can't smoke while charging you'll probably want to look for a second kit. Otherwise the craving will get you right as your battery runs out.
-
Sounds like you have a valid usability problem to me. Stop being an insulting dick and figure out how to fix it.
Ask questions like, "the value is here, what do you think we should do to make it more clear to the reader?"
-
...huh, with this form factor you'd think it would house a replaceable cell.
I think it does, in the sense of "you can take it apart and replace it", but not hot-swap, no.
if you can't smoke while charging you'll probably want to look for a second kit
You can, works fine.

Is that damage you did to your screen, or did you install the Hubble Vagina screensaver?

Status: Working from home, so watching those John Oliver clips HBO puts on YouTube, which is nice of them. He's actually pretty funny, and generally speaking his opinions are in-line with mine so it's a good echo-chamber.
Plus in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHFOwlMCdto he calls out my State for making voting easier. Good on us.

Nice. I might boot up my 5G and see if it still works. Also wondering how much Rockbox has improved since then...

Dibs on the LCD if it doesn't.
I'll take that bet. From memory, I believe I stored it in a manner that should allow the only thing wrong with it to be the battery draining to 0 volts, so it's probably still completely functional!
Though, I did us non-nylon/plastic tools to open it (didn't have at the time 12 years ago) so the edges are dinged up. Still worth a look though. ;)

Have you ever actually looked at a pay statement? Ever? There's a big box that says NET. You know it's not a check because it says so. You are the first person ever to not be able to figure out that the NET AMOUNT on the pay statement is the amount that got deposited into your bank account.
Look, here's a sample. Do you see the net amount listed as a deduction?
Here's another one. Net isn't listed as a deduction.
-
You obviously have evidence that that layout doesn't work. Find out what to change and change it.
-
-
88 cents? Are you working for @Ascendant's company?
-
@FrostCat said:
listed as a deduction
FWIW My stubs (now) indicate the deposit. Must be a new thing.
That's literally the first time I've ever seen that. That's a net deposit, right, not "deposit a specific amount/percentage"? Because the latter is different than the former, and you'd expect that to be printed.

Yep, this is the amount that falls into my account. There's a "detailed/official" paystub page that also includes the routing number (in addition to the account number, last four digits). I assume if I set up multiple accounts it would show those numbers as well, but I don't really want to test that theory.
88 cents? Are you working for @Ascendant's company?
;) We were sub-contracted by their company?
-
Look, here's a sample. Do you see the net amount listed as a deduction?
I've seen some where some of the deductions are above the line, so they were removed before the point where the gross pay was calculated. Apparently, this has tax advantages, though why it is legal… ¯\(°_o)/¯
-
Here is a sample stub that looks like the actual ones my company uses. I redacted the address because it happens to be a real person's address for some dumb reason. By default we don't provided paper statements--you go online to look at them and this is what they look like.
I have a friend who works for ADP. I asked him what they do because I'm curious.
And for @blakeyrat, if the customer fusses about it I will most certainly add that. I'm just saying that it seems a silly thing to ask for.

Status: The guy who was killed by a falling tree during Sunday's windstorm was a director of Pokemon games: http://nintendoeverything.com/pokemon-creative-design-director-killed-in-windstorm/
Sucks.
The article says he was "taking his daughter for a drive". I hope they were actually going to some important destination and not just rubbernecking at the windstorm.
