My Dwarf Fortress videos don't get ContentID'd.
It certainly does. Here is the leaked code:
def check_ContentID(video): // Optimize for avoiding DF wasting our time if hash(Dwarf) in hash(video): return NO_WAY // :sigh: return do_check_ContentID(video)

Been playing Xcom Enemy Within's Long War mod. I'm losing the strategic game badly. But just clinging on with my tactical teams.
A frigging abductor class UFO on a research mission landed where I could get at it, so I dropped my team on it. Huuuge nasty contact off the ramp, but I got into stable enough cover to hold on and set up a nice kill zone between my LZ and the rear ramp of the ship.
First contact with Muton beserkers (It's fucking June! They aren't supposed to spawn until August!). First contact with cyberdisks.
Enemies kept pouring out of the troop ramp at the rear of the ship and dying in droves in the killzone.
Once that dried up, I moved and set up an ambush in the cargo bay, and baited the outsiders into it.
At the end of the day, 0 casualties, 0 wounded. Even had 1 rocket left. Fucking astonishing.

Was @Lorne_Kates selling off some of his extra machines?
Never. I might need them.
-
@Lorne_Kates How much RAM would it take, for you to murder old ladies? Does it include winking or you charge extra?
It depends. Is ECC enabled?
-
Having a complete brainfart. @ben_lubar, you volunteer at a cat shelter-- or an animal shelter that has cats as a subset of the animals-- or I'm having a complete brain meltdown?
-
They have cats, dogs, and various small fuzzy or feathered things.
-
-
That's really cool. How often do you volunteer there? What do you do when you volunteer?
-
He's the chef. He knows all kind of cat-based recipes. Cat burgers. Cat chops. Chicken Catiatore. (Get it?????)

Lies. Cadbury Creme Eggs are superior.
They were until they changed the recipe a couple of years ago. Blame Hershey's.

Moving house today but I'm not sure how to initiate contact with new house mates. Maybe I should sleep at the office for a week and think out a formal plan of attack.
I keep having nightmares that they're friendly and sociable. The absolute horror of it all.

Knock on their door and ask if you may borrow a cup of pig's blood?
-
Or walk around the house on elephant speedos. That should do the trick.

Today is like Friday. I'm wound up 90 but going no where. I'm currently having a spat with an amazon seller over refunding me postage for yodels shit service.
The removals guy is also late.

Status: opened a local news site. All the images are replaced with "Turn off AdBlock!".
Dear site owners: I'd gladly whitelist you, however, your site has:
- 50% of the page background is actually a clickable ad link
- autoplay popup video ads which can't be closed for 30 seconds and start playing random audio without warning
- 3 flashing animated monstrosities which should probably come with an epilepsy warning in between every 2 paragraphs of text.
Kindly fuck off,
Onyx

Status: I fear this video I'm looking for might be lost forever. It was linked somewhere on the forums; it was a talk that dove deep into performance on mobile, and I remember that it dug into the packet size on the TCP/IP layer in order to explain how many bytes you had to make something appear before that first packet is done. Anyone remember it?
-
Status: Wondering why I used Discosearch to try and find it
-
Yeah, I went down that rabbit hole too, that um.... we talk about "mobile" and "performance" and "youtube" a lot around here.
-
Status: Sometimes, I'm scared when a plan comes together...
Seriously, this looks too easy, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?
-
How often do you volunteer there?
Every Sunday.
What do you do when you volunteer?
I play with 8-ish cats for 15-ish minutes each.
-
-
That's all the cats that are there right now, apart from the barn cats which stay in the back. So if I went there with the express purpose of socializing 8 of them, I'd fail at my job.
-
Status: ugh. Today I had that dream where I'm constantly "waking up" then realizing I'm still asleep. It's stressful.

Evidently people don't want to see dogs:

#JUST DON'T VISIT THE SITE THEN!
Guh people like you bug me.
If the product (the site content) is bad, do not buy (view) the product. It's a very fucking simple equation.
-
JUST DON'T VISIT THE SITE THEN!
I got a link to an article from a co-worker. Then this "I can't see any images!" shit welcomed me there so I whitelisted it to see what happens.
Guh people like you bug me.
People who are annoyed by not being able to browse a site at work because it starts blaring random audio from my speakers?
It's a very fucking simple equation.
Well, the equation is that a co-worker that used to have the site blacklisted it today because of this shit. There, now he can bug you as well. Actually, he can bug you more because I know he'll keep reading it with AdBlock on. I won't because it sucks. I only opened it because, again, I got a link to an article there (it was crap, btw).
-
I got a link to an article from a co-worker.
And therefore? Does that mean you were physically compelled by the office poltergeist to visit the crappy site? Or... what does getting the link from a co-worker have anything to do with what I said.
Then this "I can't see any images!" shit welcomed me there so I whitelisted it to see what happens.
Ok.
People who are annoyed by not being able to browse a site at work because it starts blaring random audio from my speakers?
No; people who use an ad blocker instead of just NOT visiting shitty sites. So the site gets feedback (increased visits) that their content is hunky-dory ok and never has any reason to get rid of the intrusive ads.
Well, the equation is that a co-worker that used to have the site blacklisted it today because of this shit.
I don't even know what that sentence means.
Look, do whatever the fuck you want, but just be aware that sites will never get better about cleaning up their content as long as idiots like you keep ad blockers on. Because they get zero feedback that they're doing anything wrong.
In any case, stop bitching here, to me, about some site I've never seen. What the fuck do you expect anybody here to do about it? We can't do shit. So stop bitching, you little entitled baby.

Oh, shit, wrong site, sorr...
No, wait, still TDWTF. Isn't that what this site is for? Or was everyone doing it wrong all these years?
-
Look, we fucking GET IT, people don't like ads on the Internet. Ok? I'm just so sick of people bitching about it when real problems exist in the world.

Like people posting pictures of horses?

Chicken Catiatore. (Get it?????)

Status: Sorry about the cooties. I just want to know how many Passable Poster badges I have, but apparently counting to 51 (total number of badges I have) is too much to ask of Discourse.

is the idea of blending it with "carob fruit syrup"? I'm pretty sure it would be illegal to sell that as "maple syrup" in the US; it would have to be labelled as "maple flavored pancake syrup," or something like that, because it's been adulterated.
-
I just want to know how many Passable Poster badges I have
7. I have 7. I determined this by scrolling through the list of all 254 Passable Poster badges that have been awarded, because that is so much more efficient than asking Discourse how many I have. Discourse still hasn't managed to count them.
-
I'm sorry sir, badge counting is a restricted feature to our Platinum Hosting Plan. And on that plan, it's a $$$$$$/month add-on.

I wonder if I can make a zero-downtime updater.
I assume nginx is in the container? Better would be a static page saying that the site is being updated / undergoing maintenance. Bonus points for an estimate for it to be back up.

So just don't read those posts? I'm so fucking tired of people bitching about people bitching about ads.

Well, it looks like it's maple syrup plus some other flavoring. The "maple flavored" stuff in the US is generally something like corn syrup, which is a totally different thing. That said, I don't know the details of the regulations regarding maple syrup :spit:.

10 print "I'm so fucking tired of people" 20 print "bitching about people" 30 goto 20 40 print "bitching about ads"

nginx is outside of the container. Right now, the update goes like this:
- run a shell script that:
- downloads the latest version of benlubar/nodebb
- stops the containers for NodeBB and the port-to-socket bridge
- deletes the containers for NodeBB and the port-to-socket bridge
- starts a new NodeBB container
- downloads all the plugins using npm install
- runs the setup script to make the database config file
- runs
./nodebb upgrade
- starts a new port-to-socket bridge container
- deletes any untagged docker images
- in the admin panel
- update the two emoji packs (emoji-one and tdwtf)
- activate the two emoji packs
- restart the forum to clear the post cache
I'm hoping to get rid of the admin panel steps, and also to make the time between stopping the web access and starting the new web access shorter.
- run a shell script that:
-
Status: Fuck it, new script:
docker exec -ti wtdwtf-nodebb git pull -u origin master docker exec -ti wtdwtf-nodebb ./nodebb upgrade

Status: FFS, where's the documentation for then, ■■■■■s?!
Background: Attempting to follow a document last modified in 2011 because our "Data Architect" person is leaving so I now have to do yet another job, with no info other than some obscure comments they put into JIRA. According to the "build pattern", the DBA team is supposed to run the scripts in Dev and Test, but obviously they didn't understand that based on my following the pattern.
(partial) Pattern (for reference):
Note: I'm filling three roles here. Guess which one I haven't (yet) acquired?
