using docstrings and a good IDE
Out of interest, what are you using? So far Sublime was the best thing I found for general web work, though I'm thinking about testing Atom again.

PHPStorm dude. With Symfony plugin, it's fucking magic (for Symfony dev, haven't tried with other frameworks).

Me: Boss, this translation wrangling is taking too long. I was thinking of putting together a little utility to automate a few things.
Boss: No we don't have time for that, there are features to churn. Just finish it manually, there won't be that many updates.
Me: Sure thing boss, I'll just get on with manually comparing these two files and massaging the translations.
I lied! I'm totally gonna make a tool!
-
3 days from now @cartman82 spends the day massaging the translations after the tool completely fucked them.
-
That usually happens in reverse order. At least that's what all the pr0n I watched tells me.

I remember a Mac fan in college bragging about how he'd paid hundreds extra to get the best GPU in his new iMac and it would blow away any PC ever. All I could do was laugh when I did the research and found he'd bought a mid-range laptop GPU that was only a fraction of the performance (and way more expensive) than my mid-range desktop GPU.
Mac fans are a major reason I'll never own a Mac.

Status: My DIY cheap-ass pH-meter seems good enough to make qualitative observations with. This would be the curve from literature:
And this is the curve I got when doing a similar titration:
Now I just have to find out where the discrepancies come from and if I can correct them.

It looks like your volume measurement is a lot further off than your pH measurement.
-
That's probably due to 2 factors:
a) I'm not entirely sure that the 85% phosphoric acid I used is actually 85% - will have to look into that. That should account for the delta-V.
b) The pH-probes probably need to be cleaned and regenerated thoroughly - that should take care of the delta-pH.
-
Phosphoric acid with a Delta-V was an amusing mental image until I remembered what your V is.
-
I once had hydrochloric acid with a delta-v.

I've got a used Steelcase Leap v1 at home. Paid ~$200 for it from a used office furniture supplier and it's working well. I recommend it if you want an office chair that costs >$500 but don't want to spend more than that.

Status: Just noticed I'd lost one of my credit cards. Checked to make sure it wasn't just sitting out at home, no dice. So, I called the provider to cancel it, dealt with a robot that made it sound like I would be able to complete the process with it, then got redirected to a call center person. With a somewhat thick Indian accent.
After some pain in that, I should be getting a new account number and card in roughly a week. I just have to hope the new account is linked like the old one was as far as points go. And I gotta think if anything beyond Amazon has that card remembered.

Status: Thank's for helping me discover the edge case that causes a letter to be sent every month due to "Needing service"...
Buttholes.
-
I... what? How did you have 60k mile service at 50k miles and 45k mile service at 54k miles?
-
How
Idiot service reps trying to "get me back on track" (the 60k one), and then an instance where they failed to apply the coupon at the appropriate time and I had to get it reimbursed, but to do so they used another coupon of greater value than the charged service (the 45k one).I'm certain that on the "None Recorded" coupons they can't use it anymore due to expiration and I'll be out two free oul-change maintenance visits.

I see that video, first thing I am reminded is the smell of a new computer :--)
I am a forgetful person, it amazes me how fast the memory of that smell is retrieved from a 20 year old archive.

Status: why is RaceProUK on my TV?
Reading the forum during breakfast TV is confusing

You might want to check with @accalia there how things are getting on.
Well, since we slaughtered an entire funeral together yesterday, I'd say it's not shit ;)I hope @RaceProUK comes back again and we don't drive her off again
I shall never return!...wait...
Blakey has already channeled @raceprouk several times over the years.
Well, I guess it's time to make some changes.

I found a personal photo from blakey:
Lovely
Why is blakey wearing a top hat?
Is that @accalia and @raceprouk as trolls? I assume RaceProUK is the one with the racing helmet.
Why, then, is @accalia standing on one leg? Or is she just frozen in mid-stride, because she assumes @blakeyrat only sees movement, like a T-Rex?
And why is @RaceProUK walking five paces behind @accalia? Is this one of those relationships? Or is that racing helmet actually a burka, and they've converted to fundamentalist Islam?

This week the dire predictions came to pass, as the network reached its capacity, causing transactions around the world to be massively delayed, and in some cases to fail completely. The average time to confirm a transaction has ballooned from 10 minutes to 43 minutes. Users are left confused and shops that once accepted Bitcoin are dropping out.
:)
-
Just found this reddit thread from the links in the article.
Some of the stuff in there is comedy gold...
Are you trying to use BTC as a currency?
Well, Bitcoin has not yet been optimized specifically for that use case;*
Wut?
-
Hiya Urchin! You're back!
-
I remember bringing that up the first time we discussed Bitcoin in the old forum. The fact it takes minutes -> hours to determine if a transaction is valid puts it out of the running for legitimate business (where you need the answer is seconds, or less than a second.)
-
And that's even before you get into the other flaws that the concept + implementation have.

Oh yeah. I wonder how huge the blockchain database is now. Back in 2011 when I looked into that shit it was 800 MB. Now I bet it's at least 50 GB.
EDIT: 58. My crazy guess wasn't too bad.

You know it is bad when you have to offer a logarithmic scale for displaying your data consumption over time...

Status: switching home internet providers, back to the one we had years ago
AT&T ï…¸ Time Warner
20 Mb/s ï…¸ 200 Mb/s down
2 Mb/s ï…¸ 20 Mb/s up
Actual speed test - success!
4 ms ï…¸ 10 ms ping - oh well
Also despite our modem supporting IPv6, they don't support "our modem+IPv6" on their end, so we are just IPv4 for now until they expand support. They support the previous model so I suspect it is only a matter of time. (For reference, we have a Netgear CM500) But the best news is that I can actually upload without affecting ping or download rate! Finally! I might actually have a very slight chance at competing with blakeyrat.
As expected, my Discourse experience has remained unchanged - it's the same experience as having 1000ms ping. Consistent!

When you read from /r/bitcoin, keep in mind the mod there applies extreme amounts of censorship. He literally deletes any comment that mentions the possibility of expanding the block size (and obviously, any comment that mentions that censorship). Keep in mind even Satoshi Nakamoto, the original developer, explicitly said the 1MB limit was a temporary measure and should be removed later.
Allegedly, he and the other people who control the main bitcoin client want transactions to fail so people will have to use their alternate network or something.
At least that's how it was like a month ago. Now that "it's happening", he'll probably have to move to different methods.
