Status: Somewhat surprised at the lack of ridicule for eating, and apparently liking, brussels sprouts. Not that I would ridicule you for that — I like them too, occasionally — but they seem to be one of those things that people love to hate.
Some people are genetically incapable of tasting the disgusting flavour in sprouts.

Because...?
Not that I would ridicule you for that — I like them too, occasionally — but they seem to be one of those things that people love to hate.
People are stupid. I'd have them over asparagus any day of the week. You do have to prepare them properly, though, and I think a lot of people never bother to learn.
-
A better way is to coat them in olive oil, salt and pepper and roast in the oven.
I do that, but I apply liberal amounts of powdered garlic also.
Then again I put garlic on ice cream, so, maybe I'm an outlier there.

Boiling them until the whole house smells of sulfur is incorrect. A better way is to coat them in olive oil, salt and pepper and roast in the oven. There's a Vietnamese place near me that stir-fries them with chorizo. Very tasty.
Boiled with butter is nice as long as you stop at al dente and not mush.
If you pan fry back bacon until it is brittle you can crumble that all over them as well which is all kinds of awesome and doesn't overpower the taste of the sproutsThen again I put garlic on ice cream, so, maybe I'm an outlier there.
I love raw garlic sliced on strong cheddar. I've eaten a whole bulb that way before. Get a few comments at work that I smell like a bad Greek restaurant if I try that on a week night though.
-
Sprouts used to be a lot more bitter than they are now. The miracles of modern plant-breeding have had a huge effect on them, turning the traditional bête noir of British schoolchildren through the ages into something actually palatable.

Steamed works quite well. You can toss them in some butter and a few caraway seeds afterwards.

Aren't sprouts the same plant, genetically, as Cabbage, Broccoli, and Cauliflower?

The same species, but very different cultivars. Plant genetics is quite different to animal genetics, and both are really very different to the many forms of bacterial genetics…

Status: New keyboard, and the period key actually works on this one! This ought to make my personal programming projects a little less aggravating to work on. Also, no blue backlighting that's bright enough for me to read by from another room.
It has Cherry MX Browns, for anyone who is wondering or cares.

Now we have the smell to go with the avatar.

I quite like the backlighting on my keyboard, though I do at least have the option of turning it off

I quite like the backlighting on my keyboard, though I do at least have the option of turning it offEven the cheap membrane gaming-ish keyboard I have has 3 brightness levels

Mine has three:
- Off

So far they've said that they want to nuke Iran, North Korea, China, and Mexicans.

Status: Spent the last few hours working with the Unreal engine to make a 2D game, and my head hurts.
Wondering if there's a "happy medium" of a game engine that's less buggy and generally-shitty than GameMaker, but more 2D-oriented than Unreal... probably not one popular enough to have tutorials and such.
-
You're watching a different debate than I...
-
Have you tried Unity? I know that's been used for 2D games, and it's pretty popular, so there should be plenty of tutorials around. The only other tool I know of that is used for 2D games is Clickteam Fusion; again, it's popular enough there should be plenty of tutorials, though maybe not as many as Unity.
-
Have you tried Unity? ... so there should be plenty of tutorials around
Bleh. I'm working on a 2D Unity project. 90% of the documentation is outdated. I'm finally gaining momentum on it but learning has been a painful trial-and-error process. Not to mention a nearly show-stopping bug regarding full-screen modes at non-native resolutions that they keep promising will be fixed in the next Unity release, but never is.
-
Have you tried Unity? I know that's been used for 2D games,
Well so has Unreal, that's not the point.
WHY DO PEOPLE ALWAYS MISS MY POINT ENTIRELY.
Unity is also a 3D engine which only does 2D "by accident", just like Unreal.
I actually at one point built like 1/3rd of a game in GameMaker but then I got pissed at a stupid "feature" of it, where if you drew a custom sprite graphic it'd draw directly into a GPU texture, which means if the GPU memory ever got reloaded, your sprite graphic would disappear or possibly draw garbage. (And of course there was no way to detect that and re-draw it.) But at least I could draw what I wanted.
With Unreal, I have a whole "particle system" to draw my starfield, but while my logic for coloring stars is simple as fuck, I can't figure out how to implement it at all in Unreal. I could put it in a blueprint script, but AFAICT you can't attach a blueprint script to the Initial Color emitter module.
Or maybe I misunderstand the whole UI so much I'm talking gibberish.
I have it implemented in MonoGame, maybe the best route is to continue with that. But then I know porting it to anything will be a pain in the royal ass, I'd rather have EPIC do that work for me. Hm.

Donald Trump said that the government should only provide healthcare to people who are "dying in the middle of the street".
Now everyone on the panel is saying that we should send a bunch of muslims to fight a ground war and then simultaneously carpet bomb the entirety of the middle east.
-
Donald Trump has repeatedly said that we have to bomb the oil and then take the oil and "pollute the environment".
-
Annoying people who say "we" without defining who "we" is:
Apparently he's a co-founder of Twitter? You'd know that by looking at his profile which says, in its entirety:
#withMalala!
Oh. Well how could I have failed to recognize Jack!
-
Actually it just occurred to me that I could make MULTIPLE emitters to implement my color-picking logic... I think I'd only need 3 of them. Hm.
Maybe the problem is I'm not thinking the "Unreal way" yet.
-
Now everyone on the panel is saying that we should send a bunch of muslims to fight a ground war
If by everyone you mean Mr. Rubio who doesn't seem to know anything about the real world, and few seem to take seriously, then yes.
then simultaneously carpet bomb the entirety of the middle east.
TIL precision surgical strikes on infrastructure is "carpet bombing."
Donald Trump has repeatedly said that we have to bomb the oil
That was a very weird thing for him to say. I hop he's just not very good at organizing his thoughts when he's put on the spot because it didn't even make sense.

"I do not believe waterboarding is torture" - Ted Cruz
#Waterboarding is a form of water torture
-
Well, like I said, the only other one I know about is Clickteam Fusion, which is dedicated to 2D. Although with that, you have this whole Visual Programming thing, which you probably won't be interested in. Or maybe you will, I dunno. Anyway, they have a free edition, and with the range of exporters they have, porting is simply a case of using a different exporter.
-
Maaaaaybe?
The problem is to get the result I want, I have to do a lot of drawing of my own. It's a mid-90s-esque top-down space game, not a tile-based platformer. It's closer to Astro Chase 3D than it is to Mario 3.
Might be worth a download I suppose. I like how "alpha channel" isn't supported by the free version. (But it can import PNGs, which have an alpha channel.) The fuck!?
-
"I do not believe waterboarding is torture" - Ted Cruz
I wish we'd just call a spade a spade. It's torture. Perhaps justified in rare and exception cases, but that's hard for me to know without being privy to everything that's actually going on.
-
I typed a funny water boarding joke, but Discourse lost it by being shitty and I don't feel like retyping it. So suck it.

Donald Trump says he is doing way better than Hillary Clinton in the polls
Marco Rubio said that anyone who lost family members in Benghazi is unqualified to be commander in chief. I'm not sure if that's what he wanted to say, but that's what he said.
-
Pah. Of course wikipedia would say that. Unbiased sources, such as fox news and credible dictionaries, correctly call it an “interrogation technique”.
-
Unbiased sources, such as fox news
?
I'm not sure anyone could call the Fox News Channel "unbiased" in relation to any political issue without that emoji.
-

That's one way of drawing a sprite. Another involves redrawing it every frame, and it doesn't rely on GPU memory persistence that way.
-
I've heard EXACTLY the same set of proposed restrictions on abortion from both Democrats and Republicans, even while they're calling each other extremists. Interesting.
-
Yes. Specifically, the claim I am making is that dictionaries that do refer to waterboarding as “interrogation” instead of torture, are biased.
-
See, if you don't put a on your post, I have to invoke Nathan's Law.

Does the emoji in your post count as “put[ting] a on” it, or am I supposed to believe that you really did interpret my earlier post as a sincere expression of the parodied view?

I was scared, but to be fair, I had just watched the (completely serious-faced) Republican debate.

@Tsaukpaetra, tell me if anything interesting happens. I'm going to bed.

Status: starting to feel like genocidal psychopath thanks to Fallout 4. Why do I have to kill so many people? For example, the Covenant town and the Complex or any other place you enter (like a random church) and the only named NPC is a red dot. And where do all those raiders come from? I'm the Level 70 guy flying around in freaking power armor! Why don't you want to speak first? I think I killed more people than all the factions together.
