Good job caring for developers using your stuff, MicroSoft!

500 OK?
No wait, it's not Discourse so that's bad…

Status: Reading quotes from the new Polish government. I love this one:
We only want to cure our country of a few illnesses,
A new mixture of cultures and races, a world made up of cyclists and vegetarians, who only use renewable energy and who battle all signs of religion.Them pesky cyclists; it's their damn fault that the oil prices are so low that it slows down the economy!
I'd love to hear our polish friends here comment on the current brouhaha, but it is understandable if you don't.
-
Well, it got fixed by then, I guess.
But it was gone for 10 or so minutes.
-
I'd love to hear our polish friends here comment on the current brouhaha, but it is understandable if you don't.
I think they've commented a lot. Just not in this thread (thank goodness).
-
Them pesky cyclists
Fun fact: for years, "it's all the fault of Jews, Masons and the cyclists" was a common Polish idiom meaning "it's a stupid conspiracy theory".
Apparently someone did take it seriously...
-
I could almost become the greatest enemy of Polish people then, but I can't give up pork...
-
Status: frustrated. Got to work today, grab one of our Tizen TVs and lo and behold, its firmware is updated and I can no fucking longer install shit using a USB drive.
Fine, you POS, I'll install using sdb because I will not fucking install their stupid dumb down version of Eclipse SDK. Except that it doesn't work. An hour has been wasted by now, let's see how much money goes down this drain.
-
Thinking about it, having two default gateways on two NICs on the same subnet is a funky concept anyways - no wonder it doesn't work
You can have more than one default gateway. TIL.
-
I'll install using sdb
INB4 they actually use the name
/dev/sdb
for a virtual device and it's only a matter of time before someone tries to plug in a second disk drive into the thing and breaks everything.
-
Does BIND allow you to return information based on requesting IP?
If it can't out of the box, an
iptables
rule will do the trick
-
Not sure what you mean but:
ls: cannot access /dev/sdb: No such file or directory

Status: Discovered that not only are Polycom phones a pain in the ass to configure, but their warranty support policy can be boiled down to: "too bad, you have to work with a Certified VOIP Partner or the reseller who sold you the phone, we don't work with dirty peons."
Upcoming Status: Never ordering another Polycom phone.
-
...until the PHB orders you to?
-
That's it then. Go to the top and re-read the thread until you remember the story again.
I remembered it but it wasn't all that exciting--that's the "apparently busted disk controller" I posted later. Visual Studio takes like 17 minutes to load. Hard to get anything done in that environment.
-
Like a peasant
Are you in England or Poland? I need to know whether I can tell you the FWP thread is or make a third-world problem crack.

status****strong text
: You went to Disney World on your honeymoon?!
: hey! There are adult things to do at disney world!
: Imagining what an NC-17 version of the Magic Kingdom would be like and deciding she'd quite like to visit if it were a thing.
-
Never ordering another Polycom phone.
Base on my experience with Polycoms that supposedly did work, that seems like good advice.
-
probably meant "grown-up" things, not "adult" things.
Except for sex at the hotel, of course. You try that anywhere else and they'll kick you out.
-
That reminds me of something from QI when the Roald Dahl museum was brought up. Jonathan Ross suggested that stuff like that could have something next door for the dads; he suggested "Chocolate and the Charlie Factory"
-
probably meant "grown-up" things, not "adult" things.
i'm sure she did. however the had already provided me with the mental image i have now shared with you.
-
I guess the question is, what other vendors make supported Lync phones that will integrate with the Lync client on a user's PC...

STATUS happy
I feel that the world has turned a corner.
-
Status: Sick, but since I've taken some Alleve (Go product placement!) my headache has gone away and I can work from home. Which I suppose is a good thing.
-
Also status: I somehow got 5% poster. Whaat?!
-
Do they still have that fucking bug where you can't set the authorization username parameter on the phone itself and you have to use the web UI instead? Which isn't that much of a pain by itself, but it makes no god damned sense why it won't connect intially.
-
Not really sure, since using a UPN in Lync mode isn't something I wanted to try to type via the phone keypad, so I just used the Web UI.
(Because Belgium trying to set up a provisioning server for one device)
-
STATUS Very unhappy about Alan Rickman
frown. No this is no time for Tash emoji. We don't have a frown emoji!
-
It's been a terrible week for that.
-
Status: Mafia's hung jury is killing me. I need to be at work at noon when the deadline ends, and I'll be working until 2am, so I'm hastily prewriting the no-lynch text so I can just dump it in while I'm working the longest shift of my life.
-
Are you saying we should all quickly switch our votes to @weng or @aliceif about 20 mins before end of day?
(Seriously though, this game is pretty fun :D)
-
If you'd all vote for someone now I could post the flip before I leave for work
-
Status****meme: ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis
No. No I Belgium wasn't. It was a comma where it shouldn't have been.
-
Prewriting is dangerous. Last game there was a really complex overnight situation with 2 likely outcomes and Scum was still deliberating. I prewrote both. Then you took a third road.
-
True, but it's inevitable that the town either lynch or no-lynch. If they lynch, I post a flip. If they no-lynch, I post the prewritten no-lynch.
Nights are complicated tho

Or do you put a little doll with a shirt and tie in front of your computer's webcam to look like you do?
-
Very unhappy about Alan Rickman
That is tragic. He was such a good actor, and not even 70 years old yet.
Status: Pondering how sad it is that I get a large chunk of my news from the Status Thread.
-
Yes. You never know when your boss is going to show up at your door to see if you're really sick or just playing hooky.
-
Or do you put a little doll with a shirt and tie in front of your computer's webcam to look like you do?
I've had a Skype (with video) standup in my pyjamas before. I also had one where I was visibly falling asleep and struggling to keep my phone held up
-
I fell asleep in a physical meeting sitting next to a VP once.
-
Yes.
On one hand, I hope you are joking. On the other, even though my office is at home I cannot work in shorts and a t-shirt. At minimum it is jeans and a polo, or I am not in the work frame of mind.
You never know when your boss is going to show up at your door to see if you're really sick or just playing hooky.
If he does, wouldn't it look more like you are sick if you were still in your pajamas?
Or do you sleep in your suit and tie? :cocks_eyebrow:
-

I'm too sick to really be in the "work frame of mind" anyways, but if I weren't I'd do the same. I don't like WFH for this reason exactly; I don't feel like I'm working. My morning routine and commute and attire help me feel like "I'm ready to work."
Or do you sleep in your suit and tie?
Just a waistcoat; I take the jacket off.
-
Status: Pondering how sad it is that I get a large chunk of my news from the Status Thread.
Probably better than getting it from a crying office manager.STATUS: There was no rain today so I might take my work clothes off the line and wear clean clothes to work tomorrow...
-
Or do you put a little doll with a shirt and tie in front of your computer's webcam to look like you do?
That seems like it's acting within his idiom.
-
I've had a Skype (with video)
Oh dear, sorry, guys, the webcam in my laptop appears to not work. Must be defective. Here's a JPG of George Custer to use.
-
or, a screenshot of custer's revenge
