The Official Status Thread

Status: that time of the month I have to input my hours on Kimble and after the previous Tizen debacle I'm just happy this day is about to end.
-
Status: Near the end of my penultimate day. The client system I was meant to be doing an install on, while doing handover of the installation process, has stalled because the client server needed to reboot and install 50 odd Windows updates.Just had confirmation that it'll be tomorrow before I can continue that.
Tomorrow I also need to do all of my handover, because it hasn't been scheduled already. I'm also not in in the morning, so it will be a rather busy afternoon

I don't like WFH for this reason exactly; I don't feel like I'm working. My morning routine and commute and attire help me feel like "I'm ready to work."
suckers!
-
I sort of agree with them, but I am doing everything I can to associate neither my office nor my home with work, sensei.
-
This is obviously a personal problem. I've known people who can't concentrate for shit at home. Me? I'm great at ignoring my family.
-
I feel you, I also like very much WFH and saving myself the two hour of commute. Also, I don't have to share my TV's with anyone and if the wife is around... well... I can share my "experience" with her

NC-17 version of the Magic Kingdom
There are, of course, rumors that have circulated for decades that such things exist in non-public areas of Disneyland if you have the right connections. And there is always "Flash Mountain."
-
That must be where they moved Mr Toad's Wild Ride.
-
Status: trying to find the right foundations for a project. anyone knows a good routing component for PHP?
-
Using any given framework?
Symfony's routing can be used outside of Symfony IIRC, though Symfony in full is kind of hardcore; Laravel is much nicer IMO.

the webcam in my laptop appears to not work
My webcam is a cheap, junky thing that apparently doesn't send audio through the USB; it has a separate mic plug. The only mic input on my desktop is on the front. For some unknown reason, the camera doesn't work if it's plugged into one of the jacks on the front; I have to plug it into the back. The audio and USB cables separate too close together to plug one into the front and one into the back, so you can see me or hear me, but not both. (Except Skype refuses to even connect if I don't have a mic plugged in, so video-only doesn't actually work.)

are you saying you may or may not, and cannot confirm at this time, have those connections?
because if so i may or may not, and absolutely cannot confirm at this time, be interested in such connections.
504 OK

i've seen the Symfony's routing package, but i don't know how much of it i need to pull for the router to work. and i'm really hoping to not have to get a full blown Framework for this.
Laravel it's easier and some of the devs that will be working on this have RoR experience so that's something it has going.
i was hoping to use a collection of standalone components, but i don't want to reinvent the wheel...i'll see if i can manage with Lumen(a micro version of laravel) if not, i think i'm going to start it with Laravel and fuck it.
-
I definitely do not have those connections and do not even know whether the alleged reason for having such connections actually exists, although ISTM it's unlikely.
-
If they're coming from RoR, they're probably going to expect the full framework experience anyway so might as well suck it up and go Laravel already...

I and my inexplicable pornstache are disappoint

I've known people who can't concentrate for shit at home.
I usually get more done in the office but having the option to WFH is handy for the days I can't be bothered to go in.
-
yeah, but also, i don't want them to get, uhm how to say it, Rubyd
-
Laravel is one of the better frameworks for PHP. But the good thing is that you can usually pick and choose which feels more 'natural' rather than being locked into the entire workflow and never able to move away for the next project - Ruby only really has RoR, while PHP has CodeIgniter, Zend Framework 1 & 2, Symfony, Laravel, Silex, etc. all with varying levels of functionality to suit.

Such is the way of pizza beer and bowling league.
As long as you don't drop the ball on your foot, all is good!
-
It'd be one hell of an excuse to get out of it, which is the impression I was getting would be desirable.

Are you aiming to stay immobile even longer?
-
I'm not, no, I'm planning on being back to the office on Monday. But for @Weng, it'd be a helluva way to get out of bowling, wouldn't it?
-
it'd be a helluva way to get out of bowling
petting tigers and visiting ladyboys? I don't see how those would get him out of bowling ...

you need the hands of small children
I hear you can buy those from Planned Parenthood.

It's a conspiracy to get more girls into working on cars, probably.

Either that or it explains why all the mechanics at my local VW dealer seem to be midgets.
-
Eh. Caramel-covered/dipped, or in some sort of dessert.
-
you need the hands of small children to change the headlight bulbs.
Nah, they just think it's reasonable for any repair, even changing the headlight bulbs, to involve pulling the whole engine.
-
It's pretty fun and a good deal too. Teams of 2 or 3, $12 each every week. The 12 bucks gets you 2 league games, 1 practice game (which you can take at any time), a beer, shoes, and 1 large pizza for the team.
So for my team of 2, that's 24 bucks for a pizza, 2 beers, 3 games of bowling, 2 pairs of shoes.
Regular market rates are 12 bucks for the pizza, 12 for the 2 (good) beers, 3 for the shoes, 15 for the bowling. Basically, it's "buy a beer and some pizza and you can bowl fo free"
-
Where the fuck is there a bowling alley which charges extra for bowling shoes?!
-
That's pretty standard in the US. Though TBH, I've probably only gone bowling about a dozen times in my life.
-
Everywhere? Usually if they're running an x games for $y special it's included in the price. If it's like $0.50 a game night or something you are generally charged for shoe rental or a cover.
-

Where isn't there? It's like $2 though, so it's not like you broke the bank. Just enough to keep bums from stealing them.
-
Here in the UK I've only ever been to bowling alleys where the shoes are included in the price. Sometimes they're mandatory, sometimes optional, but they're always included.
-
Pfft. Like I'd believe that British people bowl!
-
I know that the regular bowlers, especially those in leagues, tend to have their own shoes.
-
Probably. I have only ever bowled as a normal punter and not part of a bowling league so maybe that's different.
-
You can use some types of street shoes, too, if you have the right kind. They don't have to be garishly colored, just need to not have rubber or marking soles.
There's a high intersection between "people who bowl" and "people who wear tennis shoes or boots everywhere", thus the almost ubiquitousness of bowling shoe rentals.

midgets
Caramel-covered/dipped,
everybody knows midgets should be chocolate covered!
-
MSDN got broken
Must be from the semi-weekly reshuffling of the css, layout, html, DOM and URLs.

Status: Sick, but since I've taken some Alleve (Go product placement!) my headache has gone away and I can work from home. Which I suppose is a good thing.
A few weeks back, I had a mild bout of food poisoning. Horrible, terrible, painful stomach cramps-- the kind that leave your muscles sore after each wave. I took one of my wife's Alleve for the cramping.
It was absolutely fucking magic. Cramping gone, muscles relaxed-- elation like I've never felt before.
I now fully understand why women pick it as their favorite reproductive-health related blue pill.

Empty cannot be postActually, that's one of the few things my Kia doesn't make hard to do. Although I've had the car ~90K miles and only needed to change each low-beam once so far, so it's actually not all that useful.
