Yeah, how dare Windows just install Starbound when you already have a perfectly working copy of Terraria on your system! You have every right to be angry!
Filed Under: Did you just censor "
Sublime
"?
Edit: I spoilered the critical part of this post!

Eclipse and IntelliJ and NetBeans?
Dang.

There, I changed the post slightly to comply with your request.

There were like 30 icons on top of it.
You should aim better.

W8 is seriously starting to piss me off.
Why? The Automatically Rearrange Desktop Icons feature has been there since Windows 95!
(Arguably, already in Windows 3.x, but that had a totally different type of desktop icon arrangement.)
-
Windows 11 really needs "arrange by penis" ...

Yes, but before, you usually had to, you know, like click something to activate this feature.

Graphics driver cooties would do. Or even a delay in loading of the non-standard-more-than-640x480 driver.
-
Does your ISP cap your transfers? It would probably be cheaper to tell the neighbor that you would pay for any overages for them, and offer to reciprocate if they ever have internet issues.
No, fortunately they don't.
Figured out the problem, something's sending malicious stuff. Probably one of the computers (NOT MINE) got compromised and is doing bad things.
Of course, the way they do it relies on using their DNS servers. So..... if you're using 8.8.8.8, you never see the message.
-
But they aren't using Alpha/Beta-numbering on the "released" "product"
Sure they are! What do you think 1.4 beta10 is?
INB4 doing it wrong.

Without knowing what your desktop looked like before, I find it hard to make any kind of value judgement about that image.

You should play Edge of Space.
You'll learn how great Starbound really is when you see it's shitty competitor.
Eclipse and IntelliJ and NetBeans?
That's a winning combination. No Tomcat? Or I guess it just doesn't install an icon.
He also has both Atom and VS Code installed, aren't those the same program? Or I guess I thought VS Code was a superset of Atom, Atom plus all the .NET compiler stuffs.
Yes, but before, you usually had to, you know, like click something to activate this feature.
If the computer reasonably believes you've changed your desktop resolution for good, it'll re-arrange icons. If you change resolutions and don't touch anything on your desktop, it'll assume it's a temporary resolution change (playing a game or using RDP or whatever) and save the icons' positions for when you change resolution back.
From my experience, that system works perfectly fine 99.9% of the time. I can think of a few ways to make it better, but probably none of which are worth the development effort.

But, if you RDP to a machine with multiple monitors, roughly 30% of the time it will cram everything on to the primary monitor and leave it that way for when you get back.
-
That depends on whether you interact with the desktop, as I just said in the passage you quoted.

blender rendering a video with fire and smoke effects (@ about 2 minutes/frame)
Rendering is now taking up to an hour per frame. :( And I found a problem with the render that ran overnight (and didn't finish), and I had to start over.
At least I forced it to only use N-1 cores, so I can possibly do something else at the same time.

People in the Elder Scrolls universe don't make sense, because it's like:
Oh you worship Meridia, that's the good daedra who hates evil and stands for everything just and right.
Then a sentence later:
All daedra worshippers are evil and horrible and we should be mean to them!
Huh?
Oh Aelif!
Oh... Aelif. :(
I totally forgot about that plot line from my first play through.
-
Is the entirety of TESO written by the guy who made Falskaar?
-
God no. The writing (at least in the Aldmeri Dominion faction) is by far the best thing about the game.
-
W8 is seriously starting to piss me off.
Time to upgrade to 10 then? (pre-emptive goes here)
-
Why is there no such thing as a well-written idiot plot? I want a story about everyone holding the idiot ball told from the perspective of an outsider.
-
ESO Pro-tips:
-
If you're going to play around with the crime system, do it when you're level 4 and not level 36. The fines go up exponentially.
-
If you commit a crime in Baandari Trading Post, it's virtually impossible to sneak back inside the walls without a guard spotting you.
-
Deactivate your "Inferno" spell before trying theft, otherwise if you get spotted, the auto-fireballs from it will kill civilians and you'll get a murder fine, too. Ugh.

We are "Blithely ignore the global economy. Half our backend is IBM EBCDIC-era mainframe apps anyway."

Discourse would be a lot better if it wasn't 30 crappy libraries frankensteined together.
Also, surströmming would be delicious if it wasn't rotten. Or fish.

You don't get good seafish where you are. Your opinion is invalid.
But surströmming is still rotten awfulness. ☣

Status: the DB guy for the project goes on a two week vacation.
And my business analyst is now sick at home. So not only do I have nobody to set the DB up, I don't have the requirements on how it's supposed to be set up either.
Oh well, refactor time it is...

Filed Under: Discourse is NOT a game, btw. It might look like it with the gamified stuff but don't trust discourse!
The only way to win at Discourse is not to play at all.

Discourse would be a lot better if it wasn't 30 crappy libraries frankensteined together.
But I keep hearing people tell me that gluing a bunch of crappy libraries together is the way of the future.
Apropos of nothing[1], in the Traveller RPG, they called the Second Empire of Man, the one adminstered by humans from Earth, the Ramshackle Empire.
[1] Heh

-
Translation: The solution to the problem is to build everything yourself, constantly reinvent the wheel, and spend a shitload of time on unnecessary development instead of using 3rd party libraries.
Then you can rant about people never learning from history!
-
Those guys are assholes.
Apparently they were actually only incompetent. That's why it was called the Ramshackle Empire instead of the Evil Empire or Asshole Empire.

Less than 50 on 1000s of instances:
Thousands of instances? At this growth rate they will overtake PHPbb right before the heat death of the universe.

Is this where I make an "I got your joke but went with something different" crack? (For pendantry's sake: Traveller posits several species of humanity, which (IIRC) all evolved independently. Earth humans--Solimani--when they met up with the Galactic Empire, which (IIRC) had been started by a different branch of humanity, eventually managed to get control of it, and then lost it.
There are other non-human species in the Empire, although maybe only in Traveller 2300.)
I don't care--I don't have a phobia about that badge. If you think I deserve it, man up and flag my post. Or is that to gamified for you?

It seems awfully quiet around here the past couple of days.

Someday, this fuckery will probably bite me in the ass. But today is not that day.
