Status: TI5 is coming next month, and Valve announced something big near the end of each TI so far. Will TI5 bring Source 2? Probably.
-
-
Sounds like the meeting might be OBE.
I'm guessing you meant that in the sense of the last entry on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBE_(disambiguation), because it's the only one that makes sense in this context, but it is a term with which I was not previously familiar. The first initialism is the only thing that came to mind when I read your post, and it's obviously not applicable in this context.
-
There's still a fairly sizable group of COBOL programmers somewhere in the building.
Locked in the basement?
-
I'm sorry, I don't understand.
-
What does
TI
mean?
-
The International. For example, I said TI5 in my post.

If you're retrieving data from a database, especially when that's not just “fetch all rows in their entirety” or “fetch the row with this ID”, you should be definitely thinking in terms of SQL.
Emphasis mine.
A common problem is that some developers think that this is the only way to go. Maybe not all rows but certainly all columns.
I've seen so many application SPs with "SELECT *" in them that I've lost count. (There's a count(*) "joke" there that I don't want to make.)
Maybe the application really needs all columns but I'd be willing to be this isn't often the case. Especially given the way the indexes are set up....

I did not read the Wikipedia link, but I have always heard of OBE as "Overtaken/Overcome By Events".
-
uhm, at least a few years ago there was.
i had a friend who used to work there.
he told me horror tales about smalltalk vm's in production with corrupt objects lingering for years because that was soem critical system that cannot be turned off.
(in smalltalk everything is a live object, and you can hot-patch it on the go. fun for all the family!)huge telecommunications company being unable to grasp the basis of communication
it's on par with their customer support

I have always heard of OBE as "Overtaken/Overcome By Events".
That's what I figured out that he probably meant, but that is new terminology to me. I have always heard of OBE as Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. (I'm not even British, and that's the first thing that comes to mind for me.)
-
Up all night writing code.
But boy, this code is a work of art. It's not easy to do 3 things at the same time with no OS and 2048 bytes of RAM.
I see why people get stuck with C instead of moving to better languages. It's like a puzzle game. Just the right level of frustration to keep things interesting, and that satisfaction when you finally figure everything out.

Funny how different people interpret things differently, based upon life experiences. I know a lot of ex-military people, so I catch those references. Even when something else was intended. ;)

I tried to like your post, but read-only mode. (Yes, I did, eventually.) Displaying the read-only notification only at the top of the topic makes sense, because every topic has only one post, so the notification is always visible.

It makes even more sense than not having a buffered blank area to pop-in the "1 new or updated topic. Click to show." notification. I always like to have a little bit of doubt that what I mean to click on is what I will actually click on.
-
You know what makes the most sense of all? Scrolling my browser back 119 posts in the topic when I click the "like" button. I really, really like jumping to a random place in the conversation.

I love scrolling up and then Discourse deciding that I want to go all the way to the top of the topic and then going completely fucking batshit crazy and autoscrolling up. That does not annoy me in the slightest... :sarcasm.h:

Status: Today I had a 5 hour conference call, that I had no intention on it lasting that long. Not in the slightest. 11am-4pm, straight. I had nothing to eat all day until ~4:30pm. I was a grouchy bastard by the end of that call.
Oh, and to top it off, the other two attendees were ESL, and different first languages. That was...interesting at times.

Status: Attackspeed in Path of Exile, through the use of Quill Rain and many passives, has reached 0.21 which with barrage allows me to fire arrows around 8x per second. With my knockback, this looks rather hilarious. Hooray for using a level 5 bow at level 46!

I want a game that uses arbitrary precision, or at least int64s, for stats. +1000000000000000000000000000 attack speed bracelet of going fast.

because it's really annoying for people who like blue or black.
Go fuck yourself with a Doom Blade.
Status: new job (kinda - working as a rented contractor). Good thing: got a raise, which means I'll now be earning more money than I could possibly spend. Bad thing: I have absolutely no idea what's going on in here.

Are you sure they're actually parodies, and not just drivel that's So Bad, It's Good?
No, definitely parodies. If there was any doubt it would be settled by the quality of the other pieces those authors have written.
Ooh, a fellow fanfic author! What sort of stuff do you write?
I don't really any more. I did a bit of Discworld when I was younger, but gave it up, though I still follow one author in that fandom. I have the same username on fanfiction.net as here, if anyone is interested. Bear in mind that I wrote it years ago when I was stupid and unskilled. The short ones are ok I think, the long one I started and abandoned might be good for a laugh.
A friend of mine recently got me interested in Star Wars and I decided I had to work out what would have happened if Obi-Wan had seen his distressing task through to the end on Mustafar. Only I need to get my head around the universe a lot more before I could make a stab at something of that magnitude so I am sort of planning out one or two other things for practice.
You?

All my stuff is Freedom Planet stuff; I'm also on FanFiction.net, same username as here

What's cool about the way the game works is that despite the bow's incredibly low damage, I've been going for projectile damage and elemental damage, allowing me to do pretty nice damage, and possibly switch to cast on crit eventually, which will be rather hilarious.

Status: Tied to the post I'm replying to, the junior dev just walked out after the PM got pissy at him about him trying to not move his desk. The PM wanted him to move to where his screen could be watched.
I don't blame him, to be honest, given the weekend and the emails.

What about hairless reptilian bunnies, would they be easier to draw?

You should totally do a Kickstarter for an artist.

It also helps to occasionally mutter to yourself, "...that's interesting..."

Yes, though I often think of it as Obsolete Before Execution.

Status: Pretty near the top of the list of things I like to hear from attractive young females is, "Hey, you're a strong guy..." Fairly near the bottom of the list of things I like that to be followed by is, "...will you help me get a corpse out of the freezer?"
But I am a sucker, so I helped her get a corpse out of the freezer.
It is a veterinary client, so I assume there was an animal in the black bag. At least I hope that was an animal in the bag. I probably should have checked, as the generic "corpse" was used.

If ignorance is bliss, why aren't there more happy people?

How? I had to register a second Steam account just to run the Unturned dedicated server on another system.
I refuse to run servers that require Wine to work on linux.
