@error that’s what I was getting at, if you’re going to drop the sunglasses you need to drop the sick pun with it.

Seems so. It likely didn't notice it was already dead.
-
Status: Invented a new CS concept: the @Tsaukpaetra machine.
A @Tsaukpaetra machine is similar to a Turing machine, but it makes the halting problem undecidable: it randomly hangs when executing programs that should terminate, and randomly reboots when executing programs that shouldn't.
Maybe I could get a paper out of this.

Your machine has a stability index > 1? That's unexpected!
What's your stability index?

@HardwareGeek NaN, obviously.

Localized personal stability index 7.2.

That would indicate a fairly high degree of stability.

This is the overall index, sub-index options are available and each contribute to the summary per arbitrary factoring and instance parameters. 😎

Maybe this is like the German ranking scale we were discussing earlier, with 7 being the worst.

I'm all out of owls, so I'll just put it directly: The scale (for school grades) goes from 1 to 6, with 1 being best and 6 worst. Often with + or - to indicate trend / more fine grained grades. Those are normally capped at 1- and 5-, i.e. 1+ is extremely rare, full score usually just gives you 1, and there is never a 6+ or 6-.
Of course, I wouldn't put it past 's stability index to get a 7-.

This pack of mixed nuts has a strong resealable strip.
Strong enough that trying to open it for the first time has resulted in a nice parallel tear in the package surrounding it instead.
Today's pack (same brand, different nuts) opened nicely on the line it was supposed to.
After I started pulling the opposite way the arrows where telling me.
-
I just realized I hadn't clarified in my previous post that the package had tear under the seal, and not the part that was supposed to be teared open; which was an important bit of information.
But I trust you guys got what I meant.

Status: heating season started and I have backdraft in the ventilation in my kitchen (it started now, not in summer when there's no temperature difference). To make things worse, the air drawn back through the vent is mixed with some smell, as if a cat that drowned in a barrel of sauerkraut two weeks ago, which made all the rooms pretty much unlivable. The only way to eliminate the backdraft was to open a window so wide that my feet were freezing.
I talked to the local chimney sweep who inspects the building at legally required intervals, and he says that either my new windows are not leaky enough (which I suspected, but then again - I need to open them pretty wide to restore the "normal" airflow - this didn't happen before with the old windows), a neighbor installed some sort of powered fan, while also illegally connecting it to my chimney (they should be completely individual according to the plans), or the chimney's plugged by a bird or something. Also, while investigating the matter, I discovered that the duct behind the grill in my kitchen goes sideways, instead of turning straight up, which is apparently not how it was designed. Considering all of the above, they decided to do a detailed inspection of all ventilation ducts and stacks in the adjacent apartments. Which requires all 16 occupants to be present at once. I wonder how this will go. In the meantime, I plugged the vent with foil and duct tape. And now, while I'm waiting for the inspection (and not cooking, cause I'd rather not gas myself) something even weirder started happening: a strong wind started blowing, and the foil plugging the vent started flip-flopping violently at random intervals. This happens even if I open a window slightly and all other vents start "sucking" so strongly that I can hear the howling. What the hell happened here? A rotary cowl got stuck in the slightly upwind direction? Who put it there in the first place? I walked outside, and all windows in the suspect apartments above and below are closed, so it's probably not coming through someone else's kitchen. Ah, and the smell has since switched more to a rotting garbage can with a note of fish.
-
@sebastian-galczynski The smell sounds like a dead animal, probably a bird. If smells have sounds. The lack of a proper draw on the chimney supports that.

I know those feels, bro. People at work — especially the one who spells worse than a drunk Irishman — tend to write stream of consciousness, short 3- or 4- word messages, which means they send 20 messages to write a complete thought. And I get two notifications — one from Teams itself, and one from Action Center, for each of those messages. Ping-chirp, ping-chirp, ping-chirp, ping-chirp, ... And almost never are they relevant to me; other conversations, yes, but the busy group channel, no.

I was going to wait until the RTX 50x series to buy a high end gaming rig.
But part of me wants to go ahead and buy it this Black Friday / Cyber Monday.

STATUS
Bought most of my black Friday shit. Most of it didn't go on sale but was slightly cheaper than when I tracked it a few months back. One of the harddrives that went on sale was actually more expensive but I did actually save about €100. I don't need any big ticket items though so maybe if I was tracking that shit I might have seen more.
Still got more cash to piss away though.

We’re in that weird lull between generations where prices have settled a bit and probably won’t budge much. Just remember the general advice when pc parts. Pick your poison and then blackout hardware news for the next two years to prevent buyers remorse.
You going all out and getting a 4090?
