The Official Status Thread

Continuing the discussion from The Official "Likes" Thread:
That's it! We need a Status thread that we could treat like Facebook!
Done. @faoileag's status right now: at keyboard. Obviously.
-
I don't use facebook, so... Not like facebook.
Hungry?
-
Shouldn't that be status wall or something then?

Isn't this really another form of the Likes thread? After all, isn't that what people do on Facebook when they're not spooging crappy game updates or memes?
Shit. This is a certain horror of the programming persuasion's IDEAL thread. If we don't mention him hopefully he won't join in because his lolcats are straight from Farcebook.
-
But I don't post my current status on facebook!
-
Me either. I usually post minirants on Facebook, a habit which has lessened in recent weeks since I've been posting them here instead. They tend to get more likes here, for some reason.
-
-
Not Twatwoodish enough.
-
Just claimed post 5000 on the likes thread. Booyah!
-
Isn't this really another form of the Likes thread?
No. The "Likes" thraed is a chatroom. This is your status line. Post any change of status here.Ermmm... on second thoughts: the facebook metaphor was wrong. Think WhatsApp.
Edit: changed the topic title accordingly.
-
But I don't post my current status on facebook!
Neither do I. But I'll try to do it here.
-
-
Current status: posting on the "Status Thread".
-
Trying to focus on work, but I keep getting distracted by TDWTF.

Current status: resigning to the fact that friendzoning is going to be permanent

Current status: resigning to the fact that friendzoning is going to be permanent
It only has a negative meaning for those at the receiving end!
-
That's what I mean. I'm accepting that I'm permanently going to be friendzoned.

This status message is irrelevant
Filed under : this is my actual status and I never change it
-
Current status: amused.
Discourse PMs are topics. Which means you can like messages inside PMs. This is a behaviour I have never seen anywhere else because TDEMSYR!
-
Working to tag @Nagesh in multiple topics.
-
Current status: frustrated that @Nagesh will soon be back and it's all Arantor's fault

Wait ... Huh?!?!
Dicsourse is doing it wrong again.
-

At the very least, we'll confuse him.
-
yes, it confused me too.
-
Maybe @Nagesh should change his name to @confusius the confused brother of @confucius.
-
Wait ... Huh?!?!
We even tried moving them to regular topics and it works, in case you missed that bit.

I saw that bit. It just seems that PMs get more and more WTF. I understand sharing code, but there are some things being shared with PMs that just shouldn't be.

No kidding? It takes a Jeff to get something as simple as a pm wrong...
-

+1 for the idea alone!
-
Current status: amused at remembering the above shenanigans. It really does take a Jeff to break something as fundamental as PMs.

Current status: still awake. Kind of.

-
We need a "Yo!" thread.
-
-
-
You know that even that would go off topic.
-
Let's find out.
-
You know that even that would go off topic.
Of course. But it would be great to see a topic that requires you to just say "Yo!" to go off-topic.Filed under: My bet would be on "within the first 10 posts"

Just Hanzo'd @Onyx for post 5100 in the Likes thread. Time to call it a day.
-
Does that mean I'm not allowed to be hungry?
/me scratches head: I have to think about that.
-
Ok, with @Onyx probably eying the fridge, I hereby declare my status to be off keyboard, into bed.
-
Status: Undercaffeinated.

Status: Chewing bubblegum and kicking ass in some video game while getting distracted all the time.

Well it sorta makes sense if you realise that more than two people can participate in them. They're more like the Private Rooms concept AOL had (still has? dunno, don't care,) rather than the IM's they had.

Looks like a simple hyperlink is fine, and certainly better than any kind of pointless, user hostile pop-up nonsense:
@codi<wbr>nghorror said:Anyway, my original objection was to user hostile popups.
Oh my! Can you smell the irony? Toaster popups anyone? I'm quite surprised no-one on there, especially @Matches, picked up on it
-
The worst thing about Discocurse: Shaking popups!
Those are vastly more user hostile than a simple closable banner at the top of the page would be.
