Every day I reaffirm that my choice of Fitbit alternative is the correct one
-
@hungrier I suppose I probably should join the club of giving a shit about my health and actively doing something about it but…
Maybe I’ll buy something and figure out a cool tech application I can hook it up to somehow.
-
@Arantor I could probably dig my Ring Fit Adventure ring out of whatever box it's currently in and actually try to get some exercise, but I think you and I have been thwarted by the same porcine interloper
-
@Arantor or you could be fit without a bit

If they do this to me, it'll speed up me replacing my Fitbit.

If there’s no tech involved I’m not interested

I also am thwarted by the lack of a Switch, though the idea is now viable in principle - until earlier this year I either lived in a flat with people below or in a basement with zero room to move.

if that doesn't get you the new fitbit UI they forced on me a few weeks ago might do it.
wasted whitespace up teh wazoo, simplified ui meaning i can't see day to day trends in my metrics, and the complete inability to reorder cards on the main screen. i can turn cards on and off but not tell fitbit that i wish to have my hourly activity ABOVE my exercize days or my readiness score..... I could do that in the old UI and i can't do it in the new UI and i had no choice to use the new UI. it just decided i was using it and removed all my choices and at least half my usability with the app.
yay removing the usability of apps in the name of making the UI "Pretty"
I Guaran-fucking-tee that none of the designers who built that UI actually used the fucking thing seriously before pushing it out.

I'll need to check mine then.
Hrm, hasn't come by me. But then again, I did put my gmail in there.
One of these days I'll start migrating off of it, but unfortunately convenience is still winning over security...
-
@accalia of course they never used it, they have on-site gyms to exercise at, and if they waited around for QA, they’ll never get promoted.

I am in their beta program and saw it.
I shit you not 70 percent of the feedback topics were about the shitty dashboard fuckup.
They pushed it through anyways. Fuckers.

i'm so not surprised at all.
they always had a "holier than thou" and "I know what you want better than you do" vibe, and that was before they got bought by google and institutionalized that.

Status: discovered the 500-word short story contest I entered a few weeks back, I got an “honourable mention”, as in, out of our group of entrants they had to only pick 10 to go to the next round but they wanted to pick more if they could.
Makes a change, I don’t usually score anything at all.

I don't really use the app that much so it's not a big deal to me. It runs in the background for the sync but otherwise I don't pay attention to it.

Yeah. And now the only way I know of to see how much battery I have is to actually plug it in to charge. "3 dots, ok about 1/2"

Status: it’s been hours and I swear to the god I don’t believe in that I’m still trying to digest dinner.
It was a 32oz sharing steak, with fries, tender stem broccoli and gem salad, complete with peppercorn and Bearnaise sauces and a red wine jus just in case we couldn’t decide which sauce to put on the steak.
Côte de bœuf. Bloody marvellous, but still digesting.

Most gems are completely indigestible. A few might dissolve in stomach acid, but I wouldn't recommend attempting it; some are made of things that aren't particularly healthy.

All it took to break direct deposit distributions was for the company to change the description on the deposit. I called in to the bank and they said they fixed it and here we are a week a later and it's still broken. This sort of bullshit is why I get paper statements and fight automatic updates. Every time these cretins touch something, it breaks, and entire teams of them don't have the collective wherewithal to fix it. If I could reach through this phone line and strangle the entire subcontinent of India I would. What the fuck good is all of this technology is none of it ever fucking works?

I feel the same way not knowing if "COMPANY, IN" is a data entry mistake or string truncation. I already have one monthly charge that gets truncated every month because the company has an & in their name. I wouldn't recommend this bank to anybody that worked somewhere like AT&T, Wendy's, or Toys Я Us.

@hungrier said in The Official Status Thread:

When I got a Fitbit Charge 3 several years ago it seemed like a good deal. At about ~150€ it was way cheaper than a "smart" watch, but, so I presumed, not just some 25 buck Chinesium tracker with a real display.
It was good enough at first, but I got progressively more annoyed by the connectivity issues, stupid app / account requirements, etc. (INB4 ) So my opinion of it was already going downhill before Google took over, but I knew it'd become complete unusable surveillance-focused shit once they bought it.Well, then I had the watch straps replaced (for free) several times, and finally the display broke.

@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:

That's my other annoyance with my Charge 5. The straps are rubbish.
The matt coating wore off the edges of the silicone strap it came with quite quickly.
The silicone strap irritates my skin sometimes so I bought a genuine Fitbit fabric strap which fell apart after 6 months. I got another one which did the same.
I got a cheap Chinese strap from Amazon which wasn't any better () but also wasn't any worse despite being an 8th of the price.I've gone back to the silicone strap for now. Until they force me to use a Google account.
-
@loopback0 It's a shame there isn't anything like a leather or metal strap to use, and nobody ever uses such things for watches they strap to their wrists...
-
@dkf said in The Official Status Thread:

Yes but if the quality of the other straps they make is a bit shit, why would the quality of the leather strap be any different?
-
@loopback0 Oh! You were thinking about first party straps only?
-
@dkf last time I looked the choice for 3rd party straps for the Charge 5 wasn't great. It might've changed recently but if they're going to go down the Google route it's anyway

Makes sense to me. At Google you get promoted based on shipping stuff. Listening to customer feedback and making changes slows down shipping stuff. Thus, don't listen to customer feedback.

DDF Status: 2 boxes containing my PC were ostensibly shipped yesterday. One of them (full of expensive bits) arrived today. The case, however, was missing, and the delivery driver knew nothing about a second box, and the tracking information mentioned nothing about a second box either.
So in all likelyhood the second box is still at the vendor. Annoyingly, today is Friday, and if I remember correctly DHL does not deliver on Saturday.

Status: I’m on the train, sat in front of one of those serial phone call people. You know the kind, calls multiple people, begins each call with detail about which train he is now on, that the previous train was cancelled so he is now on this train, where it is going, when it will arrive, etc. for each and every person he speaks to.
I have heard about his prostate-reducing tablets multiple times at this point, and wondering if throttling is possibly an option.

Having lived in Northern IL, I can confirm. (The Hilly Hundred bike ride (in the fall as the leaves turn) near Bloomington IN is gorgeous. Except when it rains - wet leaves on hilly roads are ... unpleasant.)
