@dcon It's just saving system resources (including ram and disk space) while you're clearly not using it.

"leave"
Guess that would be when I fall asleep since I'm at home...

Status: juggling some files around.
Didn’t inspect some old small programming-related things very closely and ended up moving half a gigabyte of almost 25000 files.
A single folder, at only 32 MB, accounts for about 10000 files. Any guesses? It’s a single node_modules. And despite being alongside about a hundred iterations of a sort of demo library and accompanying assets, it’s still bigger than all of that combined.
But the culprit for more than 200 MB (yet fewer than 9000 files) is 43 iterations of a completely different demo project (with no node_modules), each including a copy of about 2.6 MB of images, that I would have cloned once to change all of one or two lines.

Almost done with The Last of Us Part I, assuming the show follows the game closely (and it seems like it does).
Can't wait to start Part II.

Status: Completed Metroid: Other M. Fuck Team Ninja and everyone involved with that game with sharp and rusty implements. Especially the writer, and the one who greenlit that atrocity. Also the UX designer for making the game physically painful to play (sideways Wiimote) and the sound designer for compressing the sound to maximum tinniness and making it unbearable to listen to. In conclusion: Fuck that game.

@Atazhaia You shouldn't repress your feelings. Tell us how you really feel about it.

Turns out this is the start of a sentence and the beginning of another, and not the game's full title.

In real life, it often goes that way:
: The sound is too soft. Make it louder!
: *mumbles* Yeah, it'd help if you weren't listening on your laptop's crappy microscopic speakers.
: What? Speak louder!
: I said, I can make it louder, but it would ruin the audio ambiance we've worked hard to create, and...
: I don't care. Make it louder! You just have to turn a button!
: *turns compressor settings to 11* See? It sounds horrible.
: What do you mean? It sounds perfect to me. Ship it!

Lemme show you something. I'm gonna draw a teddy bear.
Oops! Nightmare. Lemme try again.
That's not encouraging... this happens every time tho. 3s the charm, yeah?

I just beat Part I, now for Left Behind.
I'm actually impressed at how faithful the show was to the game, especially the ending.

Status: Bernstein Bears Effect
I've had this constant in my library for many years set to 10-2-1985. That's the date the NES launched according to something I read a long time ago. Of course, everything that I can find now says 10-18-1985. So where did I read it? Well, I narrowed it down to two(ish) places. One, a Nintendo Power player's guide about the NES (NES Game Atlas?) or, two, a Nintendo Power anniversary article on the NES. But damned if I feel like digging through 200+ issues of Nintendo Power.
Edit: It seems like one of those stupid things like how the Enterprise NX-01 has two launch dates (April 12th and 16th of 2151) except one has all but disappeared...

I don't know — or care — where you got this information from, but it's wrong.
I assume you meant the tip of the cream itself, by the way. Starting from the tip of the cone would have been even sillier.

Note to self: A cheap little cross-cut miter saw is not going to cut it (pun intended) when trying to cut 5/8" red cedar. At least not for this noodle-armed wimp without a proper bench and vice.

Status: slow.
Meanwhile I start to wonder if iot was faster to just re-format the disk and then copy those 257 GB in 15,111 (mainly large) files in 1,480 folders over instead of deleting the other crap from this former backup disk.
(This former backup disk of 1 TB will be used as my music files disk, since the other drive - which includes also photos and other crap - is almost full)
-
@BernieTheBernie 2.5 million files remaining, and an estimated time of 5h 15 min...
Doing the format thing now.
-
No wonder it's slow, you're using floppy disks.
-
@BernieTheBernie Though formatting was fast, the copying is slow, too.
That disk writes at ~13 MB per second, which comes down to roughly 20,000 seconds (6 hours).
again.
-
@Zerosquare said in The Official Status Thread:

And the most astonishing thing with this unusual floppy disk is its capacity: hundreds of Gigabytes, not merely a little more than 1 Megabyte.
That's exceptionally high class Bernie engineering!
-
@BernieTheBernie And I had to learn a little SQL .
The filenames (complete with their path) are stored in a SQL (MS SQL server) database. Previously, the all were in the form of
B:\Data\Audio\Composer\Work\ActualFilename.flac
. That get reduced toA:\Composer\Work\ActualFilename.flac
now.Is there a function to take everything from on the right side of a string starting from position 14?
No. Thesubstring
function requires not only the start position, but also the length. But you are allowed to specified a very long length, in that case it will in effect be ignored.update dbo.OtherFile set Tmp='A:'+Substring(Path,14,100000)
Great.

@Zerosquare said in The Official Status Thread:

There's no shame! Just wondering why. Some people like it slow.
Some people like to complain that it's slow.
Yet others claim it's so fast nothing actually happened.
Some don't like winning.
