I want to give a pat in the back to the person who designed this laptop with the power button on the side of the body and right next to the sound volume buttons.
Sorry, did I say pat on the back? I meant punch in the face.

@Zenith And "part of your order was shipped," including a clear separation of items between shipped and not shipped, actually means the entire order was shipped. Not in two boxes, which would suggest the second e-mail just got lost, but in the same box with a packing slip that indicates both were always going to ship together.

Status: 03:00. I am awake after a full night's sleep. Some time before 21:00, I was so sleepy that I couldn't keep my eyes open while watching a YT video, so I went to lie down for an hour or so. Six hours later, ...
(TBH, I suspected this might happen, although I didn't intend it and didn't prepare for it by actually getting ready for bed, brushing my teeth, etc.)

Naturally, I read the rest of the thread, and someone else suggested the same thing already. Great minds think alike, or fools seldom differ. Take your pick.
STATUS Slightly worried about my health. I've had a lurgy for over a month now and no amount of antibiotics is shifting it. Inhaler use has increased dramatically too. Not really hungry either so I've actually lost some weight but alcohol consumption is way down. I would say possible depression but everything else is actually going well. I'm even less temperamental than usual.
Might actually have to go to a doctor to have a good look up me.

status The handle on my toilet broke. Now I have to get my hand wet to flush. Or find some string to tie round the broken part so it doesn't keep sinking to the bottom. Or use the other bathroom. Until I can get to the hardware store.
The in me uses the other bathroom.

Status: Well I guess I was a bit of a Karen yesterday. I was at Burger King when the following scene unfolded. An old man was in front of me trying to order a single meal from what was the dumbest cashier I’ve seen in awhile. He just could not understand that the guy wanted one meal. He said, and I quote, “but I already put in two.” So? Take one off you mook.
When he finally figured that out, he gave the old man a cup and, of course, the soda machine is still broken. Why these dingbats give you a cup when they know the machine is broken is beyond me. So the old man asks if the kid can get him a regular Coke from the back. The kid says I don’t know and just stands there. The old man asks if he can check with somebody. The kid says OK, then comes back, and gets him a soda. Then he says “it came out kind of red, might be Cherry Coke.” The old man said he wanted regular Coke. The kid looked dumbfounded and then was gone for five minutes and presumably came back with a regular Coke. The old man was so mad he probably would’ve punched him if it was a Sprite.
Then the kid wandered off and an older lady took the orders of those of us in the line that had formed. I was just about coughing up sand but only ordered a burger just to not have to deal with that shit. But I went home and filed a complaint with the company about the drink machine being broken for so long. And somebody actually e-mailed me back saying they’d yell at the franchisee.
So I turned around and filed a complaint with Wendy’s because their drink machines have been broken even longer. But nobody responded to that one.

Ouch. Fast food cashiers aren't known for their outstanding INT rolls under the best of circumstances.
-
@HardwareGeek But it's been getting a lot worse in the last couple years.
I went to McDonald the other day and I ordered 2 McDouble. When I got my order, I looked into the bag (I don't trust them that much) and saw 2 hamburgers inside
Walk all the way to my desk at work, get the burgers out and... I have two cheeseburgers
I go back to McDonald with the bag, hand it to the person serving the orders and tell her "these are not McDoubles, they're just cheeseburgers"
She look at the sticker on the bag and say "Yes, these are McDoubles"
So I tell her to open them and check. She became so confused, she went and got somebody else to handle my issue
You can't make up that shit

@TimeBandit Yeah, I mean it's one thing to mess up an order and it's another when you can practically see the beach ball or hourglass spinning in their glassed over eyes.

That's the most accurate description of this phenomenon I've ever seen. There are so many people afflicted with this it's not even funny anymore, especially when they're driving.

I don't quite remember the slow-as-molasses data rates, but it feels just shy of Windows thinking "1.4MB output file? I'll write it to a floppy drive!"
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

- Install Windows on an M.2/SSD
- Make the temp dir a RAM drive
- Run some script from a stranger on the Internet to remove services/etc that are not essentials
- Run it on a PC with 24 cores and 64g of RAM
Windows is still slow as molasses
