@Benjamin-Hall plot twist. They were not, in fact, done by 4pm. Now they're saying midnight tonight.
Final result: it came on at about 6 am. So thankfully I don't have to drive to the office a second time this week.

status I abandoned windows in favour holoos for my under the tv gaming device. Actually suprisenly happy with the decision. Most of it worked out of the box. Ethernet, of all things, won't work but getting third party games in is easy enough. I’ve got to admit. Gaming on Linux might actually become viable soon. Steam might be onto a winner here if they can stream line getting in 3rd party stuff.

Is it, though?
I believe I said might. I didn't even need to retroactively edit my post to give me plausible deniability.
Good point though.

I was greeted this morning with a BitLocker recovery screen, and (having resolved that) now when I try to sign in I can't establish a trust relationship between my workstation and the domain.

Status: Found a comment in the source of our management processor firmware that indicated what part was used for temperature measurement in our systems. It's a standard bit, with a decent and comprehensible data sheet (albeit a somewhat unusual encoding), so I'm now going to be able to offer up thermal monitoring in my control service.
There's all sorts of fun things squirrelled away if you can just find the key to unlock their power.

You're going to need to reset the machine password. GLHFHTHHAND

@Tsaukpaetra In this case "you underestimate my temperature" would have been more accurate.

Support desk says my machine was removed from the domain. I have to wait for the Active Directory team to re-add it.
Meanwhile, I'm stuck in a cubicle with only my phone to entertain me. I can't even

status Just came back into the house to hear my APC NS1080 UPS screeching. (gawd, I hope I wasn't editing something since that took the desktop computer down hard)
"F02". Well fuck. (powers down to stop the NOISE) <googles>
Ok, unplug all load, unplug from wall, plug all back in.Well, it seems to work... Not sure on the trust level though...
So, what UPSs do you like for moderate home use? I'd like to keep the desktop running for, say, 30-45 minutes at least.
-
@dcon said in The Official Status Thread:

Something trustworthy I guess. 1500VA standard though unless you want it to have a run time in the single digits.
I have a 300VA one on my unimportant main PC that lasts a few minutes to go into standby so it can sleep an hour.

Is this a US thing or a "I run way too much computer hardware" thing?

Wifi came back briefly. I checked some email and caught up on teams. Last week’s problem cropped up again and they misdiagnosed it... Again!
Feeling blessed that the internet is down again and 3/4g is so spotty here I can't connect to the VM.

I should do that sometime. I have a tooth that I'm fairly certain is a goner but it would be nice to confirm....
