@dkf Indeed on both counts. I had been quite happy that only one other had made an appearance - and it was removed a few years ago.

This seems like an unfair comparison. What you need to do is draw the same picture on both tablets.

Status: FUUUCK I hate
cmake
and everything that uses it. Oh, and every other unix build tool, too.Want to try out an application out of curiosity. It builds with cmake. I type in the commands from the how to build section and it tells me it can't find
libunwind
. Off to a great start, my spidey-senses tell me we're going down a rabbit hole.
So I download libunwind next, and try to build it locally (no admin rights on this machine). Following the instructions for this:autoreconf -i
,./configure
,make
,make install prefix=~/libunwind/lib
it complains that:libtool: install: error: cannot install `libunwind.so' to a directory not ending in /usr/local/lib
Why. The fuck. Not?! Oh well, some googling later reveals the answer in a completely unrelated project that it works when you give the prefix in the configure step instead of the make install step. Because .
Okay, so back to the original problem. I now have a locally installed libunwind. Cmake doesn't automatically find it, though. So I try
ccmake
instead, which just tells me the same shit but doesn't show an option to specify the path. Toggling advanced settings on, I finally find config options forLIBUNWIND_LIBRARY
andLIBUNWIND_INCLUDE_DIR
, which I dutifully set to the correct paths of my locally compiled library. And now??
The explicit complaint that it can't find libunwind went away, it only complains about an optional library (if it's optional I won't care for now), but then still says some required packages are not found. Make up your mind! And the option to generate doesn't appear.Back to the command line, just typing
cmake
gives the original complaint about libunwind, even though the manually provided path still appears to be in the cache. I tried googling how to tell it library paths in the command line, but every search for something like cmake library path gives instructions on how to write your own cmake projects, not how to use the fucking thing.About to throw my hands up in the air and say fuck it.

Quotes
(product owner) "which of these tickets needs to go first?"
XYZ need to go first. Because otherwise we'll be reinventing the wheel multiple times, one of them square.
-
@Benjamin-Hall so XYZ will be next sprint (or backlogged) as it doesn’t show tangible benefits to the product owner.

We're not really doing "sprints", more Kanban. So it's a matter of priority (in this case relative priority, because there's a bunch of defects that don't affect the relevant area), rather than "this sprint" or "that sprint".
And in this case, it's "we won't ingest any big new features until this overhaul is done, because it will make life messy."
-
@Benjamin-Hall you have a product owner that understand such things? Where do I get me one of those?
Too many of them only focus on increments of tangible value (features) and anything else is low priority.

Thankfully the devs have some pull and can push back. It's something we have to keep reminding product of, but we can refuse to ingest a ticket or require that it get marked as blocked (meaning we won't work on it until the blockers resolve) by another ticket. And they have to respect that.
It also helps that the PO is new to the job and the devs have been there longer. So she's willing to be led by us in many ways.

Status Almost achieved the perfect PR. Only one addition (a null check) the rest of it was deletions across multiple repos. Including deleting a database table.
Additional Status: Created ticket #9999. One more before we see if there's some logic somewhere that assumes ticket numbers are all <= 4 digits.

Might as well just go ahead and create the "fix things that depend on 4 digit ticket numbers" ticket as ticket #10000

Status: Woke Trek is such a downer sometimes. The latest Strange New Worlds was about child sacrifice. In TOS, Kirk would usually get these people to see the error of their ways and start changing for the better. This one? Pike's like "well, I'll tell the Federation you did this. bye" and it ends.
-
Why are you watching it?

@Zenith TOS was woke, for its time, as was TNG. This new Trek... Woke-Extra?

status there is two bars at this gig on opposite sides of the room. Each of them have a bottle of Jameson that is a third full. If I run one to the other I might be able to stay in Jameson for the night and not get refused service.
Also the band needs to invest in a cowbell instead of a tambourine.
