The problem is if you just paste the URL, NodeBB sees pairs of underscores and converts them to
<em>
tags before converting the rest of the URL to a link.If you write down an actual
<img>
tag like this...<img src="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c2/Piero_Manzoni_-_Merda_D%27artista_%281961%29_-_panoramio.jpg/330px-Piero_Manzoni_-_Merda_D%27artista_%281961%29_-_panoramio.jpg">
...it will hotlink just fine:
I just happened to pick Copy Image instead of Copy Image Link from my browser's context menu.
-
@Zecc I'll often do that sort of trick, especially when I want to make the visual size of something I'm embedding be smaller than it really is.
-
The crap is: just every forum software uses a different style for "actual" things. I tried
[img]
, and vered that it just wrote it verbatim.

@Applied-Mediocrity it is pretty terrible but it’s also not even finished through its first draft yet - I reckon it needs another day or two’s scribbling to at least reach a conclusion even if the conclusion is just a setup for the next one.
I’ll share once it’s at least gotten to something pretending to be a conclusion.

Status: Raging at the postal machine.
I got an SMS notification about a parcel from outside of EU. I should do a customs declaration.
Very well. I look up the package in the postal tracking system to see who sent it and from where. ...And find that neither piece of info exists. The tracking shows that the package appeared at a terminal at the border, an now it's here. But literally nothing else.An international tracking page shows that the package originates near Shenzen, China. But not who sent it. I can't even find its weight anywhere, so I could try and judge if it's something valuable.
The postal system holds the parcel until customs office has accepted my declaration and releases the package. Or if I don't handle customs, they'll send it back. But there is no way for me to get a look at the label or, God forbid, the customs declaration sticker that's on every package by law. Nope. In a warehouse it must sit until I magic up documentation on what's inside a package I've never seen.
No family members admit to mailing us anything from China, so this is most likely a delayed shipment from some shop or another. But we have no idea from which one, nevermind what we ordered and when.
Well, it's not like this is the first time something like this happens. So the post office has a service where they open the package and send a photo of the contents. For only €13,50.
...Since I don't know the weight of the package, I don't know if it would be worth it. Likely not. But I guess we'll never know, since I won't be paying it...
-
@acrow In Germany, the Deutsche Bundespost will handle such cases at Frankfurt airport (don't know for other places). The you'll have to pay an extra charge of 6(?) Euros, plus the taxes, plus import VAT when you take it from the post office...

Twice now (once this morning) it had issues where network connectivity was extremely bad. Speed test suggested something like 50k bandwith, but other devices on the same network confirm that the router is connected at 50Mbps.
Mine does this too - although a speed test usually shows 20-30Mbps and turning the WiFi on/off fixes it and it goes back to the proper speed for a while.
I'll try that next time it happens. I think I tried turning wifi off/on unsucessfully, but I might not remember correctly.
Nope, doesn't work. Or rather, works for a few seconds then drops back to being fucked.
It's definitely a local problem. The router is connected at full speed (as confirmed by a different connection), but even accessing its configuration page takes forever.
Of course, the Wifi diagnostics don't turn up anything useful. (It's almost like using Windows) And the analysis just dropped 400MB of log files in /var/tmp that I have absolutely no idea what to do with.
This is starting to get really annoying.

There's definitely some sort of recent macOS problem, it's just that for whatever reason it's less bad for me.

I still need to finish DK Tropical Freeze at some point. (It's good but I've reached the low point where playing games is compared to watching games)
-
@topspin It's fantastic. Like a modern version of Fusion. Maybe more linear than some of the other classic Metroids but it is very good

I've never played a single one. It's just looked quite nice in the shitload of ads youtube has spammed me with, unlike every single other thing they advertise.
(Although having seen it in an ad should make me not buy it out of principle)

I don't 100% bad games. It is rather short. I took my time searching everything and finished in 12 hours. Speedrunners finish it in under 2.

@error I finished it on normal with 90-some %, and started but haven't yet finished it on hard mode.

Status: I finally bought Elder Scrolls Online. Steam has (or had, as of last night) it on sale cheap. I actually read their EULA, Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy, and Code of Conduct. I may be first person in history to do so (other than — maybe — their own lawyers); it took hours. (Due in part, but only in part, to doing other things like eating and watching YouTube at the same time. And due to dozing off because it was so boring.) I think starting a multinational corporation would involve a smaller pile of
legalese.Also, all the other game updates Steam wanted to download were blocked, because I was "playing" a game for the entire time I was reading them. And, for some idiotic reason, they make Alt decline the agreements, so trying to switch windows with Alt+Tab declines the agreement. Finally, when I finish reading and accepting the agreements, I get an error, because they've taken the servers down for maintenance.

@HardwareGeek
Did you at least win the free mansion for reading subclause 13.3.7?
-
@izzion No, but I learned their privacy policy can be summarized as, we'll do anything we want with your PII, except in jurisdictions where there's a law that says we can't. Don't live in one of those jurisdictions? Sucks to be you.

@HardwareGeek Welcome to ESO. There's a shitload of content after 7 years, and you can do it in any order. Did you get the six or twenty buck one?

@SirTwist I just got the $5.99 one. I saw that, said that's a good price, and clicked Add to Cart without looking at the store page to see there was anything else available. I might go ahead and by the additional content. Maybe. I've still got a couple of days to see if I even like it; I generally prefer off-line, single-player games.

When I arrived at work today the colleague I share office with was doing a routine self-test as he was having "just a cold". He tested positive. Woo.
