I'm off from Thursday for 2 weeks. I had enough leave to cover the whole of this week but lots of other people are off this week and it would have left too few people in.
Some of the days are public holidays, yes, and WTF-U has nominated some of the days too. Neither of those come out of my entitlement. But I'm using 7 to fill out to three weeks, and it's glorious.
And I've parked the code in a pretty good state too.

All the contractors were basically booted out of the office in the second week of December and didn't get access until the second week of January. I'm quite lucky in this gig.
As a contractor, I try to avoid taking any vacations and any holidays I don't absolutely have to. I don't get paid for them. I don't get any paid time off, for any reason. I get paid for hours that can be billed to the client. Not billable? Not payable. Even in places like California that mandate (minimal) paid sick leave, the payroll system has no provision to claim it.
I was fortunate my first year back at work after the big recession; the client didn't do their usual year-end shut-down; I'd have been evicted. (I nearly was anyway.) IIRC, the next year, they did shut down, but the project I was working on was exempt. For a few years after that, I was a salaried employee; I got paid for the time off, so I didn't mind taking it (except for the inability to take a vacation any other time of year, because I had to save it for the shut-down, or else not get paid for it).
Now I'm back to contracting, and back to not taking any time off if I can avoid it.

you know xcode sucks.
Yesterday, I got xcode into a mode where I couldn't bring up the project settings (I have a workspace with multiple projects). All it would do was (try to) open the actual xml project. Finally fixed that by deleting some xcuserdata stuff under the workspace directory. No idea what I did...
Today, Apple said "hey, I got an xcode update for you!". It starts downloading - cool, only a couple hundred MB.
Later... why isn't it done? Looks. Oh. Now it's downloading 12GB.
(Oh, and xcode? They changed an option on me that I didn't know about (COMBINE_HIDPI_IMAGES) - so instead of copying my png files into the bundle resource, it converted them to TIFFs. And then my program asserted because it couldn't load the PNGs. That took a couple hours to figure out.)

I'd have to burn my vacation to do that. Since I don't plan on going anywhere, I'll continue to (um...) work (yeah, that's the word).

I donât think there is a way to use Xcode correctly.

When I was working on a mac it once popped up. I closed it immediately and never saw it again. Does that count?

Use the documentation to start a bonfire?
-
@HardwareGeek I donât know what toxins that would release into the atmosphere.
Knowing Apple, something based around aluminium, heated and oxidised.
-
@Arantor Still less toxic than Xcode itself.
-
@HardwareGeek Nah, there isn't enough documentation for that.

Just soak it in sufficient Scout water and you'll be able to use it while contracting for @Polygeekery TFS

Oh. Now it's downloading 12GB.
And my router decided to reboot ( to AT&T). Once the network was back up, Apple decided it still couldn't reach anything. Fine. Reboot.
And starting the download over. Now xcode thinks it's only a 425MB download.
Holy reboots! That was actually a useful reboot. 3G into a 12G download, reboot, 425MB download, and done! That saved a whole bunch of time and bits.
(It's still installing, so there might be an update shortly...)

Usually it vanishes between keystrokes. Maybe it's actually just moving between machines?

I think thatâs just idempotent.
Would be more interesting with something âunbreakableâ. Like Oracle Linux, but something that doesnât require the .

We don't provide a service, only "consulting". We have to maintain plausible deniability. I'm like "Motherfucker Jones" in 'Horrible Bosses'. I'm an arson consultant.

Consulting doesn't fit the backronym, so you'll just have to adapt

Easy. Just make it "Tactical Fire Suggestions" instead.

@Zerosquare I am making a thing that I intend to actually use myself, and I appreciate things I make for my own use to not be entirely awful.

Well, they're technically correct. You can change your order as long as you have a time machine.

@Zerosquare indeed.

Looking forward to an adventurous holiday in a couple of days:
But: when will that be changed, too? At the day of my arrival perhaps?

Not on the metric calendar.
-
@error it's the Twelfth of Duovigintember? (Or, in keeping with Oct = 10, Nov = 11 and Dec = 12, maybe it should be Quattuorvigintember?)

Same. But I have to at least pretend. Gonna dip out early so that I can get on the road before it's full dark. Driving up across a pass when I'm dead tired and it's dark and snowy isn't a good recipe.
