@Gribnit My experience with ActiveX wasn't too bad. I tend to look at it as yet another episode of We Need This To Work But The Self-Appointed Standards Committee In The Ivory Tower Said No. That's something I don't miss about web development.

How long did the various HTML working groups lay around doing nothing again? Nearly two decades? In a way, they're also responsible for the explosion in dopey JavaScript frameworks, not just ActiveX and Flash. Computing technology has been set back immeasurably by pushing the often-crippled browser as The One True Platform For Everything.

Status: Watched the Snyder cut of Justice League. Most of the four hours of it anyway. I must've drifted off a few times because it didn't seem like that much longer of movie. My thoughts were "meh." I didn't exactly hate the original version but I can't say it was a movie I planned to watch again either. Same goes for this longer version. I don't know what it is - I would watch the DC animated universe, specifically the Timm/Dini shows, all day long but Marvel positively wipes the floor with DC in the movie space.
The whole interwebs seems to be full of excitement about this, otherwise I wouldn't even have heard about it. My first reaction was "Ugh, so DC is barfing out another terrible movie?" Oh, just a different directors cut, more rehashing? And 4 fucking hours? Great.
Thinking of it, Justice League wasn't even that bad. Not the best, but at least had enjoyable moments (*cough* Flash), unlike BvS which, after what felt like hours, I thought "this movie should either get going somewhere or finally end." Really terrible. Oh wait, that one was by Snyder. Honestly, sounds like a decent chance "The Snyder Cut" will be worse.Putting it in 4:3 aspect ratio is pretty weird too for a cinematic movie. Also read something about him planning to release a version in black and white. Might be a hoax, I don't know, at this point I can't really tell how far up his own ass he is.

Status: Having the damnedest time figuring out what's wrong with this application.
I have a TableLayoutPanel. I put another TableLayoutPanel inside of it with 5 columns and 1 row. If I close and reopen the window, it decides the RowCount is 0 and shits the bed. I can't find anywhere that RowCount is being set, besides what the designer seems to be doing on its own. It's also decided that, despite the parent TableLayoutPanel having columns of 8px-100%-8px, upon reopening the first column always magically becomes 200px.

-
@Tsaukpaetra I really don't get it. I stripped the code down to
public sealed class ZenithSafeLayout : System.Windows.Forms.TableLayoutPanel { }
and it's still being stupid. This is a library that worked just fine six months ago.

Don't worry: Google runs the working groups now so Chrome will be the only platform you need. They also released two new messaging apps this week.

The browser has essentially one advantage only, and that is that it's already there and sort-of able to do running applications that are downloaded dynamically. If you don't want to use a browser, you're diving into the hellstew that is software installation on end-users' computers, possibly with Corporate IT having a Fun () Say In Things as well.

And like, 6 months is some needy ass bullshit. This ain't probation. If they can't deal with "try in like a year or more, maybe three" then they can't deal with recruitment.

Contemplating getting a longcoat. I need something lighter than a full winter coat (because it just doesn't get that cold here) but heavier than a jacket that will keep the rain off. And I've always liked longer coats. Not leather, because that takes maintenance effort. Waterproof would be nice, but...

I did database maintenance directly in prod with my boss' boss' boss supervising (felt like open heart surgery), got a COVID shot, had a date with the not-poly girl before her date with her dom, and then drove home for an hour in a storm so strong I literally could not see the road for half of it.
