And not to start another global warming debate, but people are already declaring this winter the "warmest winter on record" and according to the Weather Channel app on my phone, we've been 10 - 20° F below the average temperature for this area in February.

Woke up this morning with a double ear infection and a sinus infection. That's like a shitty trifecta of sickness or something.

As it was below zero here this morning, I now hate you and your silly hats.

Local weather != Global climate

You could always move here.

I'd love me some 33°F
Oh, I know there are places where people are buried in snow and would be delighted by anything above freezing, but it's been running 10-15 degrees warmer.
-
You could always move here.
That doesn't help with that hats.
Also, I have no idea where "here" is in order to decide.

If you want nothing to do with my hats, then I insist you change your avatar, effective immediately.

I have a valid excuse today.

My head is not 100% functional today.
@abarker, was it you that I was talking with a few months ago about a friend moving to Phoenix and having car issues? Broken windows from the heat, etc?

Probably. If so, we came to the conclusion that it was most likely because he wasn't taking proper care of his vehicle, not because of the heat.

Omaha winters suck.

If you're looking for sympathy, alas, this topic is not the place to get it...

Maybe, maybe not. The reason I asked is because last week it was well below zero and I was driving with the defroster on and my windshield spontaneously cracked. No impacts or anything, but it cracked all the way across the bottom of the windshield where the defroster airflow would hit.
Now, he still could have been full of it and exaggerating, but I thought of that conversation when it happened. Also, the glass guy I called recommended that we wait until sprint to replace it as he could not guarantee repairs made this time of year unless I gave up my SUV for a couple of days so they could warm it up in the shop and let the adhesive cure in there, etc.
-
Sir, you should make sure your company has a daily janitor.

Related: You know your toilets aren't powerful enough when you have to push flush 3 times.

The windscreen is a stressed part of the car, and a rapid temperature change can easily crack even toughened or laminated glass. But unless your car's heater is capable of producing heat that would make the Fires of Lucifer seem touch-warm, it shouldn't happen. Unless there was a chip or something weakening the glass.

Or when you have to flush 3 times during different stages because it can't handle flushing everything at once without flooding the building.
-
Windshield adhesive is indeed very temperature sensitive during curing. Take his advice, the windshield is actually load bearing crash structure on modern vehicles so it's quite important that the adhesive be properly cured.

No chips or cracks, I was as surprised as you are. There was also no one in front of me, etc. It made a small popping noise and cracked from one side to the other. Also, it is unlikely that it is a stressed member in my vehicle as it has a full frame.
-

I am. We are just going to wait until spring. I have used him before, they come to your home and do the replacement in your driveway so I can just plan on working from my home office that day and not have any downtime.
-

Doesn't matter; I think it's still a stressed member. I may be wrong though.
-
Not stressed at rest on most body in frame trucks. But they are stressed crash structure.

Touché.I'm guessing it's the f■■■■■■s topic title you're concerned about? It's the only active Lounge thread at the moment.

And that's the one I know I muted, but apparently Discurse thinks muting that topic is Doing It Wrong™, or something, because it insists on telling me about new posts anyway.

Some people refuse to look at history and see that the jet stream has done this before (e.g., 1934) and will presumably do it again. It's been damn cold in the east and pretty warm in the west.

I bet @abarker never heard that joke before. You are so witty.
You do realize I was making fun of people who make th-- oh nevermind.
Yes, yes, I am out of touch obviously.

Are you sure that's not a case of PEBTAB?

The safest course of action is take your words at face value, because you get rankled when people make any assumptions.
-
Of course. Not that I actually have someone constantly staring at my screen, but if someone glanced over it would end up being an extremely awkward situation that I'd rather not be in.
Solution: Code instead. You know, actual work.

Status: Whatever virus-y thing I picked up ain't making much progress. Survived the day, feel relatively fine.
I blame the shitty trains I ride in: every day I freeze, melt and almost get a heatstroke, not necessarily in that order. I think my organism got so used to this bullshit viruses ain't got a chance anymore.
I'll still take cautionary measures of extra vitamin C and lots of tea.

fair enough.
of course now Macie's getting notifications every time we change the topic title (and post if he hasn't unwatched the topic now)
i'm not sure that's a good thing or not.

I'd assume there's a way to turn off that notification, because if there wasn't how have we kept @mott555 and @faoileag from going insane?
