But if you're trying to use your work-provided computation device, bets are off...

VirtualBox fucking sucks. It randomly refuses to start due to hardening errors
What’s that?
(solution: keep trying until it works), randomly drops audio, randomly refuses to connect USB devices, and refuses to mount shared folders.
Shared folders work for me, but trying to hand over the external hard drive to the VM (exclusively) is very hot and miss.

Any size for cockroaches is uncomfortably large.
I still have PTSD from when I was 9 or 10 and visiting my aunt in Georgia, at some point there was a big-ass cockroach in the house that I eyed skeptically. Then it suddenly started to fly and I .

Verizon gave its customers free access to Showtime for the month of April. I was flipping through channels and came across this movie. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Feet_Apart
Released in 2019. Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse play two young patients with cystic fibrosis, who try to have a relationship despite always being forced to stay at least five feet away from each other.

Status: I just remembered that the RapsberryPi I setup to display today's catering menu for my school is still active. Since it's ruled by a simple cron job, it has now turned on every working day at 10:00h and turned off at 13:30h for five weeks straight without any worthwhile information or anyone actually watching the screen.
I wonder if it feels lonely.

I do want normal life back, mostly for the sake of the economy and the cost in human lives that the shutdown will wreak. But I think working in an empty downtown would be cool.

I'll trade you. You can sit here in this super-cooled building with nothing going on outside while you wait 30 freaking minutes per switch stack for the firmware update to extract.(I forgot how long this took. Kill me now.)

In the living room the voice-clock sang, Tick-tock, seven o'clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o 'clock! as if it were afraid that nobody would. The morning house lay empty. The clock ticked on, repeating and repeating its sounds into the emptiness. Seven-nine, breakfast time, seven-nine!

Status: Realized I live in a dying town, just like where my parents moved away from.
Today our movie theatre announced it's closing perman
ently. Follows our KMart, nuclear plant, flea market, 3rd grocery store, my grade school, all within the last year or two. The last recession only took Radio Shack, both video rental places, the Shell station, and the town newspaper. I can see the defunct radio tower from my front yard (went under a few years before I bought my house). They were talking about closing two more schools before this lockdown happened. All that seems to ever open or do that well here is pizza shops. If I don't move for a new job, I think the town will dry up and blow away and leave me here.

If there's nothing there to keep people employed, the town dies. In particular, losing big anchor employers (such as the nuclear plant) makes a huge difference. Can you identify (not to us; to yourself) the big local employers? If not, the place is doomed.
FWIW, once a city gets big enough then it becomes close to self-sustaining; its own internal needs become sufficient reason to keep enough people employed. I'm not quite sure what that point is though. (Yes, there are non-linear effects.)
If I don't move for a new job, I think the town will dry up and blow away and leave me here.
Get your ass out of there.

Sweden had some major internet disturbances (as in, several large internet providers had continuing issues) at the same time. Internet had hiccups it seems.

@dkf I can only think of one but with the way manufacturing is these days there could be very few people actually working there. Beyond that, there's really only state government and they're cutting jobs and offshoring like crazy. That's why I can't transfer into a development position - there just aren't any.

Status: Attempted to do my part for social distancing by doing my grocery shopping online and either having them delivered or picking them up without having to go into the store. To do this, you must sign up for a specific time slot for delivery or pick-up.
Apparently, you have to do your online shopping at midnight in order to be able to reserve a time for the following day. I guess I have to go to the store and expose other people to my germs, and vice versa, to get food. If they have any.

I tried with my grocery store and it didn't go well. Selected some in-stock stuff, picked a delivery slot, picked the first delivery slot available, completed it, and then I saw in the fine print in the email receipt that the delivery day was actually 3 days later. Then, 3 days later, they went to fulfil my order and everything was out-of-stock.
So you can't buy stuff in-store, and you can try to order online but it doesn't really work because your order doesn't reserve the quantity so whether it's in-stock or not at purchase time means nothing.
-
@HardwareGeek We'd been using "order online and pick up" grocery shopping since I moved last year. When the closures started we tried to set it up and all the spots were booked for the next week, and since we've been going to the store. :(

Since the whole pandemic thingy became all the rage, I've been working from home, so I don't generally leave the apartment much, except for joyrides and grocery runs whenever my lunch boxes run low so there has been a significant drop in the ratings of candy. As a result I'm getting in shape.
Also, one batch of lunch boxes being prepared:

I've just watched critical darling "Get Out" (2017). Enjoyable, but nowhere near Best Picture levels. But I don't really get modern horror films, I think they're all silly but in a trite way. I've also watched The Death of Stalin today, with Steve Buscemi and Michael Palin among the others. Nice bit of fun, more enjoyable than the aforementioned. In general I feel that this past decade has been a bit weak when it comes to films (and music).

Status: Why do I have to have a Steam account and a Bethesda account to play Quake Champions? This multi-account multi-launcher stuff is BS.
EDIT: Should probably move this over to WTF Bites. The UI....everything is disabled except the "Play" button. I can't go into settings to set mouse sensitivity or pick the graphics options.
FAKE EDIT: And it won't let me play because it says my graphics driver is out-of-date. Oh really.
REAL EDIT: It says that, then it goes into "Searching for a match." Also, the game settings menu only works while searching for a match, not before when you're just idle in the game menu, so it kicked me out a few seconds later before I could check/set anything.
REAL EDIT 2: The game crashes when a match ends.
