given that most of the office is out with "ungodly gastro issues that may require the services of an old priest and a young priest.... possibly a bell book and candle job...." i highly doubt what we have is the Wuhan virus. it's probably something bacteriological instead.
not that that makes the prospect of catching it any more pleasant.

Does the U.S. have a standardized format for the card/account statement? Because Finland (and probably most of Europe) does. And it includes a reference on who charged you.
When I call to hear recent transactions (because I haven't set up online accounts for all of them because I don't want the noise mail they trigger), most of the time I get this:
On...
Tuesday...March...Eleventh...
Two Thousand....Seventeen...
A Charge....
In The Amount Of...
One Hundred...Seventy Two....Dollars....And Sixteen....Cents...
At....Hobby Toy And Game Shop...
On...It takes almost 20 minutes to get through the first five. Except Discover, because that menu is all vocal, and it takes 20 minutes of shouting "TRANSACTIONS, YOU BLOODY PILE OF CIRCUITS" just to reach the transactions listing.

this is possible, not the canteen bit we don't have a common one, but there are a couple of local pubs that are well loved...

New one's not so bad actually. That perception, however, may be colored by the fact that Youtube Center extension leaked memory like hell.

I only use youtube to watch videos; I've gotten the full resolution etc still. I just hate the new layout, it's one of those things that spaces things about 2ly apart (presumably to be touch friendly). I use a mouse 99% of the time, I'd rather have all the stuff fit on a single screen . Besides, I'm perhaps old and grumpy and hate change, but not so old that I can't accurately touchy-click stuff when demoted to interacting with a touch screen.
(They've automatically switched me to the new version a few times, but fortunately you can edit one of their cookies to return to the old one.)

at this point i would ne surprised if there was a single day that went by when he DIDN'T make me ashamed to live in the same coutnry as him.... regardless of wether he's president or not.....
if i ever meet him in person the urge to attempt to tear his throat out with my teeth would only be resisted by my utter revulsion at the concept of actually touching him. so far the revulsion has a ten to one superiority of numbers and a two to one superiority of intensity.... but that could change...
and of course if i do attempt it there's no way i'd survive, either because the secret service shot me (hoping to get some accidental shots into the protection target?) or because i would be disappeared after ending up under an epic dogpile of secret service agents......
so I guess it's a good thing there is actually a negative percent chance that i'll even get the opportunity tto attempt what i'm almost certainly never to actually want to attempt....

Of course I wanted the 49ers to win, but I can't feel too bad. If any coach in the league deserved to win a Superbowl, Andy Reid did. It was a long time coming, and I'm happy for him, even if I'm disappointed about the 49ers.

@anonymous234 said in The Official Status Thread:
A protocol like that will either be very limited in scope (i.e. only have a few commands), or more likely, the exact opposite: be so generic and extensible that it's effectively useless.
You forgot that it can be both at the same time.
SNMP has only 3 operations: Get, Set and Trap.
But they all operate on a (remote) device's agent's database, defined by their Management Information Base document (in BNF). The database itself is traversed via OID (like URI, but just numbers to choose branches).
Here's an example OID (from the internets) that points to some leaf data item: 1.3.6.1.4.868.2.4.1.2.1.1.1.3.3562.3
Here's what the branch numbers mean in this particular example (apparently):
Iso(1).org(3).dod(6).internet(1).private(4).transition(868).products(2).chassis(4).card(1).slotCps(2).cpsSlotSummary(1).cpsModuleTable(1).cpsModuleEntry(1).cpsModuleModel(3).3562.3Notice how the first 4 numbers only get as far as defining that this is an internets-connected device. The organization that produced the device is usually in the 6th digit. The 5th, with value "4" denoted that this
deviceinformation base branch is not manufactured by the U.S. government.Or just look at teh definition of the first number. "1" for "ISO". This whole scheme is not just right on par with Java's Class inheritance pedigree; it's beyond that.
Edit: toi -> to

@acrow
MIBs are easy to write. You just have to use a very specific text format, and do tree inheritance, but with the word values instead of the number values when you're referencing the parent OID. Even though every single MIB consumer will use the numeric value for the OID, because that's hella easier to try to remember than the big long iso.org.dod.internet.private.transition.products.chassis.card.slotCps string.

Status: Pondering how exactly I want to install Plex on my network.
For various reasons, including the fact that I have a "company" and "home" lan over the same wires, I don't want to just install stuff like Plex, etc. on bare metal on my hypervisor/workstations. I want a VM and I want to isolate on my home vlan. Heck I even set up a totally separate vlan for all my iot devices.
I had a plan to use the Docker image in a virtual machine, but libvirt didn't like how I was symlinking my USB drives into a folder. Heck, this libvirt/9p/virtfs issue is still a problem even if I drop docker. I'd have to switch to NFS, which isn't a possibility in my remote configuration (i.e., managing the virtual machine on
hyperv2
from the project tree and control panel athyperv
).If I drop the remote configuration and management aspect, then I'd need a copy of my project tree on both hypervisors. OK. Not ideal, but OK -- it's way better when all the machines are automatically in sync.
hyperv2
is "really" my desktop/workstation (which has an 8 core xeon and 16 GB ram, so it's good enough for some work. BUT it's a company hand-me-down and not going to do any company work except to be a dumb terminal and maybe run shared services like a unifi controller. But then, why even have a shared project tree at all? Maybe it's time to separate my lans into two project trees? But that's a whole new shitstorm of weeks of fucking around with Vagrant and salt to get my shit to build again. Again.Fuck, I wish Plex had just worked.

Status: Planning a migration.
OK. So I guess I realized that PLEX and my UNIFI controller both need to be on my home vlan. Which is fine. And really, they're the only special snowflake services that need to be on it.
So I can just manage
hyperv
fromhyperv2
instead of the other way around, and just load up PLEX locally onhyperv2
.Luckily, I've been moving in the direction of generic naming of things for a while, like using FQDNs for my machine names and similar. So the same configuration should "just work" (almost).
TL;DR: I wish Plex had just worked.

do they still require Facebook account to use? cause..... I don't mind if facebook is an oauth option for registering, but to make it the only way to register is a big fat nooooooooooope.
to be fair to facebook however...... i'd feel the same way about an app that forced you to register via only yahoo oauth, or microsoft oauth, or gmail oauth......... i use some services that require that but not because using them was my choice...... I get not wanting to store passwrds, but you can't force users to have an account with a specific third party..... that's not cool.
