a much better app.
do they still require Facebook account to use? cause..... I don't mind if facebook is an oauth option for registering, but to make it the only way to register is a big fat nooooooooooope.
to be fair to facebook however...... i'd feel the same way about an app that forced you to register via only yahoo oauth, or microsoft oauth, or gmail oauth......... i use some services that require that but not because using them was my choice...... I get not wanting to store passwrds, but you can't force users to have an account with a specific third party..... that's not cool.
I do not have a book of faces and I was able to sign up.

I bought cheap supermarket bread.
It feels and tastes like they just took a block ofrubbersawdust, bathed it in sugar for a week, then sliced it and sold it.Welcome to gluten-free food, except it's not cheap; it's about 5x the price of ordinary bread.

There was absolutely a time where they required it to create an account..... is why i don't use the service today.....
glad to hear they changed that tho.

I know that they hid the "Nah, I don't want farceberk."-account creation really well, since I helped a friend find it. Might be they actually removed it altogether. But their login systems never actually required that integration. they did spam me with how I should link my accounts or use facebook a lot though.

okay, i'l admit that i may have missed the "fuck off with your facebook integration" when i went to look at the service. i went looking for it but i didn't invest too much into looking for it since i had other options. when the option failed to be found after about five minutes I assumed there wan't one and walked away.

The frustrating thing is the Amazon app manages to have a good UI with a terrible UX.
It's slow, network requests will inexplicably time out and then the whole thing becomes unresponsive until I restart it, tracks randomly either disappear from my library or show up multiple times, periodically it tells me my offline music is expired and .
If they fixed the bugs and performance issues I'd have stayed with them.

Status: Xamarin is lame. I've spent the week so far making sure that .net standard 2.0 code that runs on every other platform runs on it, and now that finally everything is ready and it's time to write out the pdf, that library too relies on system.drawing.common apis that aren't supported on mobile platforms, because writing common code for interacting with PNGs is apparently too hard.
The pdf library is MIT licensed though, and I have their github page. Maybe I can port it to use skiasharp exclusively?
The torture continues.

@error this is a super edge case thing, it just really annoys me that they left these things unimplemented
-
@Magus Depending on what your project is for, SyncFusion's Xamarin components are free for small projects and below:
-
@Rhywden that's not an issue. I know xaml and can get normal stuff to work or make my own. The problem is that I need to make accurate pdfs, and there aren't many libraries for that that work well. I settled on someone's port of MigraDoc to .net standard 2, but it depends on things that break at runtime on mobile frameworks. I'm now swapping out the dependency (system.drawing.common ) for one that works anywhere (skiasharp) - it'll take time, but the end result will be a cross platform pdf library.
It's horrifying, but I think it has a good chance of working.
-
@Magus I meant to say that they also have a PDF viewer/converter/creator component.
-
@error said in The Official Status Thread:

I misread that as a book of faeces. Which I want more than what you were actually referring to.
-
@dkf If you're willing to settle for highly detailed descriptions and not actual samples, I would think any gastroenterologist could assist you. They could get samples, too, but probably not in a book.
-
@HardwareGeek said in The Official Status Thread:

It'd be just like putting pressed flowers in a book, which people have been doing for centuries.
But really gross.

That sounds like what I what I used to go through with .NET 1.1. I didn't like .NET until 2.0 and even then I was constantly finding stuff that was only partly done. You have no idea how much is in that state until you're P-Invoking. My white whale for awhile was trying to measure text for auto-sizing calculations. It's implemented just barely enough to make standard fonts draw in a box. But then you get some where it can't figure out the ascender/descender heights and returns a box that's two lines tall with the alignment all jacked up.
At one point I was looking into Xamarin so I wouldn't have to relearn Java for Android apps but support just wasn't there to make it work.

I have to reboot my work Ubuntu system far more than Windows... (some process runs amok and locks things up so solidly the mouse won't even move)

@Rhywden I feel immediate distrust after trying to explore their website. They definitely say they can do what I want, so I may try it, but the website is horrible. I've tried aspose at my old job, and that was the worst thing I've ever seen, since nothing ever ended up working.
I'll probably just pull through this, it's annoying but possible.
