Status: Doing frontendy stuff because backend stuff is done and has been for a month, and there is a release deadline tomorrow, so I have to help fix broken frontend stuff. The new UI has a bit of CV-padding stuff going on, and leaking between presentation code and logic code, and it suffers from three different namingstandards. And also being a government form for applying to have debts forgottn. It's at best a 21 page long form. Depending on options its longer. It's been developed under severe time restraints, so lots of ugly hacks that just gets shit done. The normal stuff...
Now I got a bug report for an old form, and holy fucking shit on a pancake this old code is retarded in every way there is. I am awestruck that it works at all. We need to rip it out and throw it away, because it's fucking horrible to work with and extend. Even by frontend standards.

Status: Spent the weekend playing through the main quests of Arena and Daggerfall (The Elder Scrolls 1 & 2). Both are games with interesting concepts, but a horribly flawed execution. As well as Daggerfall having a very broken game engine where it is very easy to end up out of bounds or stuck in objects, but very difficult to get back into bounds. When the developer just gives up and enables the developer cheats to counteract the brokenness you know they done fucked up good.
I say Arena was probably the more fun game. The problem is that the main quest is the same thing repeated 8 times which makes for not very exciting gameplay. Daggerfall had the better executed storytelling, but with a very unsatisfying conclusion instead. And the broken game engine made it more frustrating to play through.

Yeah, fitting what I could, there will definitely be a lot of touching when all is said and done.
Enough even that I'm going to be breaking out the ol' tap-n-die set for the M3 screw holes I need to drill because there's only 2mm of clearance from where a drive is going to be and I don't have a nut that small...
It's fucking nuts and basically completely unnecessary, but (in me opinion) when it's all put together it's going to be pretty slick how much power I'm fitting into a cheap-o drive enclosure.

Maybe try a different ending? There's 6 of them IIRC.
-
@Gąska I read up on the 7 different endings. Most of them are the same. And I really don't want to traverse through the final dungeon again to get a different one for myself.
Spoilers
Three of the endings are siding with one of the asshole major powers of Iliac Bay. Where I can choose between: Daggerfall, who has a bitch-queen who sends assassins after you. Wayrest, where the princess tries having you killed and the prince is into blackmailing. Sentinel, who wants you to steal a bunch of shit.Or I can give it to the fourth local power: the orcs. Who are using underhanded tactics to gain an advantage and while I understand their goal, they will conquer the entire region for their homeland given the chance and not just the local area.
Or I can give it to the Empire, who will come in and curb-stomp the idiot major powers and restore order to the region by force.
Or I can give it to the King of Worms who will use the powers to ascend to godhood.
Or give it to the Underking, who will use the powers to finally give himself eternal rest. Which is probably for the best as nobody else will be able to gain an advantage with it then.
But, apparently canon is all 7 endings happening at the same time anyway. So Word of God is that Daggerfall, Wayrest, Sentinel and Orsinium gets one part each of the region by conquering their smaller neighbors, the Empire comes in and forces an end to the conflict, the King of Worms ascends to godhood and the Underking gets his eternal rest and destroys the power for good.

Spoilers
Well, yes, though "at the same time" isn't totally correct, as there's a multi-way split in reality and each event happens in its own reality, and later on they all converge back into one.

i almost always end up laughing as he takes a game and cheeses the ever living crap out of it..... so..... I would say so.
also I'm not youtube, so while i wasn't prompted surely i can't be that suspicious?

Dear Hollywood,
If you're looking for a "new" idea, please consider combining the premise of the Taken movies with slapstick comedy. Can't be worse than any other recent movie, right?

okay fair...
the spiffing brit does lets play style of videos where he takes a game and abuses its mechaninics in ways the developers never intended. then he does crazy things. and he's actually pretty damn funny.

Tabarnak
I had moved some folders from one drive to another to make room for a process that uses a lot of temp space on the first drive. After that, another process started that uses a lot of space on the other drive, so I started moving the stuff back. But for some reason I had a handful of files appear in the first directory that had the same names as some of the subdirs I had moved in the first place, and when the file operation ran into this situation it put up a dialog box and just waited there (staring blankly ahead with its mouth agape if it were a person) until I noticed that the thing wasn't chooching and remoted back into the machine to tell it to stop wasting time.

I was counting out tests in groups of 5 (to make sure we printed the right number). I'd assemble 3...and then forget how many I had and have to go back and count. It was a long day from the get go.

I'd have blown my face off if that were the case. Really. It was bad. Ended up counting out (carefully) groups of 10 paperclips so that I knew when I used up a group of paperclips I'd done 10 tests.

Status: apparently, honey is still considered a liquid even after it has solidified and doesn't even attempt to flow when you turn the jar over. 10€ of perfectly good Finnish honey mixed with liquorice extract, anise oil and salmiak goes to the dumpster before I even had time to try it. Thanks, airport security!
Something tells me they might have not noticed it among all the bockwurst if I didn't ask them whether honey can be considered a liquid.
-
@aitap To be fair, honey that's been thrice-ruined with anise sounds like it belongs in the dumpster anyway

OK, so now there's a hierarchical thread pool and log messages can bubble up, there's a work queue the threads feed from, and thread lifecycle management is automatic.
The bot is looking more and more like an operating system.

Status: Have I mentioned lately how much I'm disappointed with Unreal Engine?
Having upgraded the Engine to 4.23.1, I'm now attempting to "cook" a build.
Apparently
WindowsNoEditor
andWindowsServer
now meanAllDesktop
as a "Target Platform".This is invalid for the Editor because an actual platform needs to be loaded in order to cook!!!
What the shit.
