I have no idea what SOIC/MSOP/SOT mean.
Standardized device cases. Small Outline IC, Small Outline Transistor... I don't remember where MSOP comes from, but it's much smaller again than SOIC.
All but three of the resistors are 1/8-watt, the other three are 1/4-watt because they'll handle power and not signal.
Hope you ordered the resistors based on size (0805 / 0603 / 0402) rather than power rating. Although the power ratings for the standard cases are usually the same, they're not standardized, so you may get outliers.
-
@acrow 0805 and 0603 sound very familiar from when I was looking up footprints on Digi-Key and adding them to EasyEDA. I don't recall anything 0402.
-
@mott555 That improves your odds. I don't like to use 0402 either, since I don't have a microscope. But a good pair of tweezers and a loop (for after-inspection) is enough for down to 0603 (6x3 milli-inch?). Speaking of which, Digikey also sells good, sharp tweezers.
-
@acrow said in The Official Status Thread:
milli-inch?
Centi-inch. If it were in thou then 0603 would be as wide as the thickness of thin paper.

Now I know the numbers mean something and aren't arbitrary IEEE codes or something.

Here is a screenshot of the newest PCB. Hardware guys run for your life, I really don't know what I'm doing but I can get away with a lot of probably bad things because it's analog audio-frequency stuff and not high-speed digital .
It has an interesting anachronistic look. The irregular polygon-shaped tracks are reminiscent of old hand-drawn circuits, but SMD parts were very rare back then, and using 4 layers for this kind of circuit would have been considered insane because of the cost.

Just got a call from Luxembourg (or so the country code said). Left a 5 second, empty voicemail. Guessing it was spam and a faked number, but man, why Luxembourg?

Mostly because that means the phone is on roaming and I'm getting a call from the motherland.

Sadly no, since I have family there. But I do reject 49 und schnell.

These cost less than $1.50 each, with a minimum order of 10. Shipping costs more than the boards. My initial design was a 2-layer board (which I never ordered) because I didn't know 4-layer was a thing. Routing was a huge pain, and it was a labyrinth of vias and power/ground traces trying to reach everything.
It looks pretty weird because I tend to use copper fills instead of traces, but that's due to quirks in the software. EasyEDA likes to allow trace overlap and causes problems, but if you do a copper fill, it's very good about trimming around obstacles and other fills so they don't touch.

Maybe machine learning isn't as smart as we think, if this is the featured result it gives me when I'm using the google.ca domain from Canada

It's even smarter than we think. It's figured out that at some point in the future you'll need to call France from UAE.

Time to order a few more so I don't have to endure another two weeks of this if it starts happening again...
Also status: outraged that my weekend plans have been hampered
I'd ordered some more totes to box up more junk in the never-ending effort to transform my house back into a house after years of being a makeshift warehouse. They arrived last night and all of them are basically useless. Out of two boxes of six, two were packed with broken lids and most of the rest have the part where the lid clamps attached seriously warped. These are supposed to be waterproof (non-submerged) so it's a big deal if the clamps fall off and can't hold the lid on tight. The quality of this made-in-USA product has been slipping for a year and now I don't feel like paying the premium anymore with how many issues are piling up.
Edit: yes, I realize that weekend plans to organize my house are about as exciting as Jon Arbuckle doing laundry :/

Status: 90 minutes late home because of a failed train in the wrong place and a bunch of
muppetsmanagement who couldn't figure out how to organise a train in the direction I wanted to go in. (There must've been a couple of thousand people hanging around the station looking for a vaguely useful train. Noisy and busy and just ugh.)Have remedied (after getting home) with red wine and decent coffee and nice food and so on. TGIF!

Status: Had a second phone interview for a job today. Was hoping to hear answer by EOB today, but no such luck.
Aced yesterday's interview with C coding quiz. The interviewer said I was the first person he'd talked to who got the pointer stuff right on the first try.
Today's interview included a bunch of stuff that wasn't part of the job description I have, and which I haven't used in a year and a half, so I wasn't expecting questions on it and wasn't really prepared. Plus I was operating on maybe two hours of sleep, so my brain definitely wasn't firing on all cylinders.
The job, if I get it, will require relocating temporarily from UTC-8 to UTC-6, so the logistics of that were keeping me awake when I wasn't trying to expel my internal organs through my throat. Also, the plan is for my son to stay here in Silly Valley and take care of the apartment and the dog;
he'smy son is early 20's, hasn't figured out how to adult properly, and has a history of poor life choices when on his own, so worrying about that didn't help me sleep, either.

Are you sure your dog is not actually a college student?
-
@Zerosquare Neither of them are college students. My dog is the equivalent of about 90, and that's another worry β that he won't be here when I come back.
My son would accurately be described at this point as a college drop-out, although I think he still plans to resume when he gets his act together, if he gets it together. He has ambitious plans (PhD in physics) but has lost his motivation to pursue them.

Clicking the link launches YT in another tab no issue though.

Usually, embeds work fine on my phone (except whatever happened last night/today β I know it's not just me; somebody was complaining about broken YouTube embeds in another thread); it's my desktop that has problems with them. Facebook embeds are the worst; there isn't even the slightest hint of the post that is failing to be embedded, just empty white space. OTOH, it's Facebook, so nothingness is preferable.
But you can just βview rawβ.
Or I can tap the link instead of the video and open the YouTube page in a new tab. Which is ok if I actually wanted to watch the video, but I mostly just want to complain about the broken state of the forum.
-
@topspin I'm also getting a broken embed. Looking at the source code for the invisible button, I only get
<button class="ytp-large-play-button ytp-button" tabindex="23" style="transform:scale(0.85)"> </button>
Maybe someone got really confused and left all that white space there for the video to play in.
