PHP powers way too much of the internet. And I'm a PHP programmer as a consequence.
-
For some reason I believed Raspberry Pi were simple microcontrollers unable to run PHP, but now I see they are small computers running Linux.
FWIW I've been a PHP programmer before.

Probably mixed them up with Arduinos?
-
TBH, I have no problem with PHP - it is very easy to use to make something simple.
It's just that something simple is probably all it should be used to make.
-
...and here I am, running a firewall that not only has it's web UI written in PHP, but has it's entire init system written in PHP.
-
-
Which can run Linux too.
Badly.
These days, you could probably make good on that old joke about running Linux on a toaster. Ok, maybe not, but one of those fridges that you can use to make grocery lists, or modern washing machines would be potentially viable.
Doesn't make it a good idea though.

Nope, toasters are taken over by BSD.
DEAR $DEITY, DON'T LET THEM INSTALL FESTIVAL ON IT, I DON'T WANT TALKIE TOASTER TO BE REAL!
-
But would you like some toast with that? A muffin perhaps?
-
I wouldn't say that's a proper use of it, it's more of a placeholder than anything.

I linked that article because it was written by Alex's company. I didn't read it.

Figures. I think I did what that guy did about 7 years ago.

The "Let Me Google That For You Act."
"Let Me Google That For You Act - Repeals the National Technical Information Act of 1988, effective one year after the enactment of this Act (thus abolishes the National Technical Information Service [NTIS])."

Using the latest thread in the Articles category to continue the likes thread discussion. Imagine the front page showing an article with 5K+ comments.

My own previous post led me to another article (also google translated, sorry) about fake apps. The most common way to trick people into installing your adware is to imitate apps that people want, but aren't available. For example, if a game is popular on iOS, but has no Android version, people will still search for it in the Play store, and inevitably the stupidest 30% will install the first result regardless of what it is. This means literally hundreds of people will rush to create fake apps in hopes to trick those people.
So I had a Good Idea™ to solve this: manually adding responses for the most common searches on popular sites that have no good results. So if you search for "iMessage" on the Play Store you should get a big text like this on top:
The iMessage instant messenger service by Apple is not currently available on the Android platform. The following search results do NOT include any messaging application compatible with the iMessenger service
Same if you search "minecraft free", or "transformers 4 full movie" on Youtube, or "whatsapp for PC" on Google, or anything that only results in similar crap.

Infinite music loop - internal thread links are very meta, and this is a great idea. Kept me entertained all afternoon.
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/infinite-music-loop/1894 Added link again so Discourse would add it to the gutter.

Private toll road to bypass long detour. Hope it works out for him.

10 days to build 365m of road? Back in the day, we could have done it in 2 days without breaking a sweat. 3 if the soil needed to be stabilized.

You forgot "uphill" and in "the snow".
I can forgive the mention of being happy.

Uphill both ways, give me some fucking credit. I didn't watch my buddies dying face down in the muck in Vietnam.....wait, I am only 35. Scratch that last part.

You weren't there, man.

Chocolate-covered Espresso beans. I should have started a thread in One Post, called it "The Best Ideas Thread", posted them there, and then let the thread lock itself because nothing will ever top these.

Those are tasty.
And I don't even like Espresso!

Even better and tastier:

Yes, I assumed everyone would be able to find the Bacon Mockup as well as the veggie and vegan ipsum pages from there.
-
-
Can we add Bacon Mockup to the onebox whitelist? Meanwhile, filling Discourse's image cache with copyrighted images....

I'm a fan of http://slipsum.com/. Push through http://projects.haykranen.nl/markov/demo/ for additional placeholding hilarity.

I remember this from way back, too. :)
On a side-note,

I hate when forum emoticons look different from their textual counterparts. I'm trying to express a particular emotion here, dammit!
-
-
That's why I turn off graphical emoticons in all clients that allow me to.

On Discourse, backslash is your friend!
Discourse, particularly its quirky interpretation of markup, reminds me of the kind of "friends" I had as a kid — never knowing from one day to the next (or one minute to the next) whether they were going to be my best buds or try to throw me in a pile of .
-
The difference between friendship and is an empty line between paragraphs. Unless it's bb quote, not a markup quote... unless it's a this... unless it's a that... Fuck it. Who needs friends?

bbcode quote:

Funny way of getting people to buy the full app.
