The Official Good Ideas Thread™

I've had a few funny things I'd like to post but they didn't really belong in the bad ideas thread because they weren't bad ideas, so I thought I'd create a thread for them to go in.
Filed under: Funny submissions only. Offenders will be flogged.

Feel bad about something? Post in the bad ideas thread. You'll feel better.

I got a good idea: that it never occurred to CDCK to include sound with notifications in Discourse.

So I've been playing a game called Fists of Awesome. It's awesome in a terrible way hahaha, and one of the Steam achievements is to watch all the credits. So I did... and having done so, it says "Take tomorrow off and have a chocolate bar as a reward. Tell them Nicoll said it was okay." (Nicoll is the guy who basically made the game)
This seems like a good idea to me.

I've seen this screenshot posted before. I'm afraid I don't get the in-joke here. Mind putting me out of my misery?

The second image clearly has improved texturing and level design.
-
That much is obvious, yes, but what game is it, and why is it relevant here, etc.?

My best guess was that he had a new graphics card and could therefore enable more fancier settings in the video options.
If he's been doing some mapwork and has made those improvements himself then I'm impressed...

made those improvements himself
He plays Dwerf Fertress with standard ascii tileset. I don't think Ben knows what pretty graphics are.

Mostly it just looks like they turned the lights down. Huzzah for energy conservation!
-
The floor was also redone to help all those female players in their high heels.
And as mentioned. No game map can be redone without adding at least one barrel or crate.

It's a map I'm fixing up for a mod I'm making.

Aah... Good old Alien Swarm. I should look at that again some time.

That must be why @codinghorror is collecting our addresses; to fill one of those bad boys.

I find that telephone directories work better as instrument for punishment then little black books

I'm not in the telephone directory, heh.

I find that telephone directories work just as well.
But the telephone directory doesn't say "book of people I want to throat punch" on the cover.

I'm now thinking a "Like" script would be a good idea. I'm 2000 posts behind on the Likes thread
-
I made a very naive one line script to paste into the console. The delay is there to give infini scroll time to load. You might want to increase or decrease the delay depending on how slow it is updating.
for(var i =0; i < 10; i++) { $("html, body").animate({ scrollTop: $(document).height() }, "slow");$(".fa-heart").delay(1000).click(); }
It also sometimes causes the browser to navigate to another thread. I have no idea why, but I can't be bothered to debug it.
On my browser each iteration of the loop will like about 20 posts, so just tweak the numbers as you see fit.
Filed under: By the way, kudos on the likes thread
-
Or he could use the script as is in my profile, which doesn't have the navigating away issue, and the time between runs can be tweaked.
The overlay is so you know you shouldn't use the tab otherwise.
-
Nice. Got it started.
-
You will want to check on it now and again, especially since you know you'll hit your daily limit of likes. The script will keep going once you run out of likes, trying to like everything even with their popup showing, and probably eventually doing 429 errors (too many requests).
-
Ha, nice. I didn't know about it, otherwise I'd have used it.
I'll use it when I get back from my trip :-)
-
I still want to see a site that legitimately implements 418s.

Clearly this is the answer to that post about Bertrand's Teapot on the <a @SCBlog topic.
-

That seems ironic.

I was going to post this, but does it actually return 418?
You're seeing the page, so it should be returning something in the 2xxs, right?
Edit: oh, it's actually returning 418 but with content anyway. Cool.

What? I hope that's a joke.

Is 420 a Blaze it error?
