I enjoyed that movie when he was on the motorbike though.
-
Easy Rider?
-
Sure. Any movie with a motorbike suffices. I'm easily entertained.
-
Sidehackers!
-
that's a good movie.
for this year vacations I'm going to visit that part of the world =D

if you really think that you lack a lot of knowledge about latin-american history. a lot.
*please note that this statement makes no value judgment about che's or his political viewpoints
I don't think he meant about the people at the time. That stuff makes sense. Well, that's my take on it (maybe he is surprised about his literal following in life). It's kind of amazing how many people not in Latin America think he's the bees knees. Like, middle class kids. Those are the guys who really have a poor grasp of history.
-
ohh. yes, that's kind of funny.
special irony that his face ended up in lots of mass produced shit like t-shirts and shoes

More-annoying-than-evil idea: post a revision update to your OS kernel two days before posting a minor version update.
To be fair, I don't know offhand if Linus did it, or it was just how it happened to work its way through the Gentoo portage update process.

I'll admit to using
ls
in scripts, but only if I need the names of entries in a certain directory (rather than the full paths) and I don't think I've ever needed the order, and only in one-off scripts.Seriously.
ls
is short for list sorted. If you just need the filenames, echo *
will do just as well, though usuallyfor filename in *; do …; done
is the right thing (or something withfind … -print0
andxargs -0
).
-
for filename in *
only works if you change working directory first, and any solution involving find is a lot more typing. For clarity, this is one-off stuff I'm typing in the terminal directly. Things like:- I've got 80 automated tests
- 50 of them return a twiddle.log which is reference checked.
- The code which generates twiddle.log now returns an extra property
So I'll write a one-off in interactive shell command to copy all the
/tmp/test-output/$tstname/refdir/twiddle.log
totests/$test_long_name/refdir/twiddle.log
, and the easiest solution I know of isfor tst in $(ls /tmp/test-output/); do cp /tmp/test-output/$tstname/refdir/twiddle.log tests/$tst*/refdir; done
-
for filename in * only works if you change working directory first
So use the right glob pattern, yes?
-
any solution involving find is a lot more typing.
Que?
It's not. One off stuff though I guess it doesn't matter either way.

I like to think, and frequently admit / boast that I have an evil sense of humour - quite often as a softener for the "evil idea" I've just had and are about to verbalise.
Also, I get an immense amount of pleasure (INB4: Of the cerebral type, you minded individuals) thinking of "practical jokes", so much so that actually executing them would be a considerable anti- climax.
In other news @shadowmod has gone AWOL, apparently.
It just crossed my mind, in an evil way, perhaps I should go to each and every thread / topic and "look" for him. Which made me giggle at the thought of the havoc and confusion that would cause, not to mention the aggravation it would cause to the anti-necro group (I mean the "group" that does not like old Topics being revived - if I got that right?).
But I CBA. Besides, as explained above, I've had my fun.

He's in the hospital getting worked on, to my expectations.
perhaps I should go to each and every thread / topic and "look" for him
Is this not sufficient?anti-necro group
Should have no beef so long as the topic you revived somehow stayed relevant in the ten years you drug it up from.
-
Is this not sufficient?
Useful API to know, but: It could only tell where he has been not where he is now. Although the last place he was at is a good place to start looking.
:WTF: EDIT: @shadowmod has given a Like?

So long as you stop looking once you find him, I think you're on the right track!

Sure, why not? It's not like their creators know the credentials needed to log in as them after all...

find -exec
?

Never liked the syntax of that. Much prefer to
find -print0 | xargs -0

Could also have been a mod impersonating him.
-
Eh, almost the same thing. :p
-
Could also have been a mod impersonating him.
Nope. Mods can't impersonate. :P
-
An admin, then?
I forgot they're not the same thing...

Evil cat

I encountered one of those evil cats, when I was a kid, six or seven.
I was at my grandparent's place and they had a whole raft of half feral kittens around. I wanted to catch them all and pet them, but of course they were having none of that. In the end, I caught one, who promptly let out a howl of fear.
Out of nowhere, the tomcat appeared and jumped up onto my torso. His head was about even with the bottom end of my sternum, his front paws were wrapped around to my back, and he started digging. When I let go of the kitten to deal with him, he let go of me.
Fabulous set of scratches on either side of my back. Unusual for tomcats to defend a kitten like that, but I had the marks to prove it.

This Russian promotion.
Buy a pack, get two extra.
-
-
That's impressive. Just to be sure, is the regular pack normally 8- or 10-count?
-
Yeah, it looks kinda like someone wanted to run a "10 for the price of 8" and then halfway through the design (i.e. too late to back out of the larger package design) someone thought how nifty it'd be to put the 2 extra wieners in their own separate little sidecar to emphasize how extra and free they were. Someone important and high up really liked the idea and vehemently demanded that they do it, nevermind the fact that their packaging overhead just about doubled.
-
nevermind the fact that their packaging overhead just about doubled.
Yeah, that's rather impressively stupid.

Who knows. It's a funny image being shared around. It's not like I went investigative reporting through Russia and snapped the pics myself.

Team trolling!

Luckily, deceptive packages are prohibited in Germany (and afaik in the entire EC).

I just heard about a somewhat evil idea that's still not dead:
The CSU (Christlich-Soziale Union - Christian Social Union, where I just have no idea what Christian and Social could mean) still wants to reject every fugee that doesn't have valid papers.
I can't help imagining "Good moring, Mr Officer of the Evil Empire, as a member of the Resistance that is about to go into exile, I need a passport. Could you please give me back the one you took from me to keep me from leaving the county, or give me a new one?"
-
Poor Jorji.

Maybe they should build a wall around Bavaria to keep the modern world from getting in.

The scandal, in which management software detected when cars using the EA 189 motor were undergoing an emission test and put the engines into a low-emission mode, has already cost VW boss Martin Winterkorn his job, leaving him struggling with a €3.2 million severance payment and a €1 million annual pension. ®
I understand the need for corporate discipline, but this is just too harsh. Everyone makes mistakes.

That's right: life is a "terrible thing" when you're a CEO.
I notice the company has been careful not to disclose the stock options he probably has, to go along with the severance and the pension. They must not have to disclose those in Germany.
Actually, as terminated CEOs go, his pay looks kind of chintzy. There's got to be some stock involved.

Well, he was booted out under a cloud. The company's got to at least appear as if they're not rewarding failure too heavily.
