🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

Ben, you live in the midwest.

don't put the pointy-out bit into the not-pointy-out bit EVER or YOU WILL DIE

Bad idea 1: Rush across the street with small children
Bad idea 2: Speed up and try to steer around the children on the street

The spoiler tag kills the animation for me
-
It isn't the spoiler tag that is killing the animation.
It looks like the upload was converted to a PNG.
-
Since it doesn't autoplay, we may as well link directly to the WebM.

Ah shit, yes.
I tried to spoiler it because it's a bit NSFL-ish. It's always something with fucking image upload.
-
Plenty of stupid to go around there. Still, I feel bad for the kids.
-
It's funny (well, maybe not "ha-ha" funny) that the mom (?) stops between the directions of traffic and waits for the car to go by while the dad (?) runs right out in front of a car with a stroller carrying 3 (?) kids.
-
I had to walk a large part of the way to work for a while, and quickly realized that until you step off the sidewalk, 90% of people won't even consider stopping. The best one was the time I stepped into the road, and a car in the opposite lane drove over a train track, and then put on the breaks as hard as they could, and then the person behind them drove over the train track and into the back of their car. It was a light collision that didn't dent either car, or I might almost feel bad. But I have a feeling that there will be two people who actually look outside their car occasionally when they drive.
-
But I have a feeling that there will be two people who actually look outside their car occasionally when they drive.
The easiest way to achieve that would be to strap a TV screen to the top of the engine compartment, pointing backwards, so they can watch reruns of Friends while they drive.
-
Because that totally isn't what they do already...
-
I was advocating putting the distraction (just) outside the compartment, so technically satisfying “look outside their car” while making things actually worse.
Because of what thread it is, of course!
-
-
That causes pain to both my empathy and my sanity.
-
Ya it sux cuz he's so close but so far.
-
It's just, even if it had been spelled right, it looks painful and badly done.
-
Maybe he's missing a leg and making a @Groaner here.

You lack imagination. It's actually a perfect fit for certain circumstances, most of which involving the words "hold my beer and watch this...".

"We already have that one from the last 27 times you fell for this. Thanks anyway."
-
-
Well, that's one way to know for sure.
-
My question would be, do they hardcod
re it to "yes" as you'd be inserting it into said DB or return no because they don't want you to cancel your card?
I'll go with "yes" because they don't want your money, it was too easy.

Autocorrect by mobile.
[edit] And it took me 3 corrections just for the above line.
-
Ugh. Note "Custom" looks grayed out. It's not, and if you don't want "Ad-Aware" search engine hijacker installed, you have to click on it and then uncheck a couple of check boxes.
-
When you're using a hands-free pump and a crazy person sets fire to the fumes escaping from the gas tank, you're probably better off slamming the stop bar on the pump than doing this:
Besides, why are there significant fumes escaping during the fueling process to begin with? Wouldn't that cause an EVAP trouble code to trigger whenever you refueled your car?

Bad Idea: The SUV in front of me (and my motorcycle) on the interstate highway this morning, with a clearly bent rear axle, going 80 mph. I passed as soon as I could because I did not want to be behind that when stuff started falling off.

I just saw a commercial for what I assumed was a low-tier Android phone of some description. And then at the end of the commercial it said "if it's not an iPhone" followed by "it's not an iPhone". And I was like "oh, that's clever" and then an Apple logo appeared on the screen and I realized that they had intended the tautological statement to have the opposite meaning.
-
"if it's not an iPhone" followed by "it's not an iPhone"
The contrapositive of which (which Boolean logic tells us has the same truth value as the original statement) is "if it's an iPhone, it's an iPhone"
Which can also be interpreted, depending upon your alignment, as either a good thing or a bad thing.
-
Protip: If the inverse is the same as the contrapositive, you probably aren't making a statement with any weight.
-
Cougar petter: “That was a very bad decision.”
Yeah, man, those middle-aged chicks can be crazy.
-
Protip: If the inverse is the same as the contrapositive, you probably aren't making a statement with any weight.
Statement: if P, then Q.
Inverse: if not P, then not Q.
Converse: if Q, then P.
Contrapositive: if not Q, then not P.The reason the inverse of "if it's not an iPhone, it's not an iPhone" is the same as the contrapositive is that P is the same as Q. In much the same manner that Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo, you can confound Apple users with this fact.
-
If it's not a tautology, it's not a tautology.

It is what it is.
On the other hand, the Way that can be named is not the constant Way.
And from yet another hand: That that is is. That that is not is. There is not that that is not.

What does she do when you aren't around?
I remember once getting a call from my wife:
"There's a scorpion in the house! What do I do?"
"Smash it with a shoe, scoop it up in a dust pan, and throw it away."
"That's it?"
"Yup."
