Bad idea: creating a kickstarter that you have to explicitly tell people is not a condom
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/weiner/the-gentlemans-single-use-monocle
WTF? Why? I'm speechless!
It is not a condom. It is made of hard plastic and metal. If you attempt to use it as a condom, you will definitely hurt yourself, and you may experience the miracle of life.
At least the guy is funny.

He does the web cartoon Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal. Worth reading

The wife is right (and why this thing is probably being backed) about:
If this is successful, the world is broken.

I also know one or two people (not personally) that have bought a pair
Wasn't @accalia going to buy one of those? (INB4 Hanzo)

Wasn't @accalia going to buy one of those? (INB4 Hanzo)
i did.... although i am beginning to suspect that they might not actually be coming..... no updates from the makers in ages.... they might have done a runner....
serves me right i guess...

kitten gloves
-
yeah, i need to make those too...
should make them fox gloves first though.
-
they might have done a runner
There was a link up above; one of the founders made a facebook post in February.

Wimp. Can't you at least miniaggress?
I don't even know! What would that entail? If violent overthrow is micro...I guess it's time to put those nukes to use?
-
i havent had a facebook account since june...
doesn't surprise me. money does strange things to people.
-
Shmorky's supported him, too.
Anyway, it's a good idea because people on the Internet will buy anything. Especially if it's on Kickstarter first.
-
horrific sporting injuries ... I presume that's what you found?
Some were vehicular accidents. Some matched only the the first search word. Some were category 2, displayed on the hood/bonnet of cars.
-
*pats Hardware reassuringly on the shoulder*
There there.

Some matched only the the first search word.
By which I mean, lots of bloody, graphic pictures of Middle East terrorist atrocities. There there.
What has been seen cannot be unseen.

Um ... thanks ... I guess.

That is why I backed it.

Look, if people are STILL passing the busses, then randomly assign a motorcycle cop to 10% of the bus routes, changing daily, until enough people get the hint. More fucking flashing lights won't help.
Why is that not allowed anyway? Here you are allowed to pass buses when they are at a stop, as long as you follow all other rules for passing a stopped vehicle and the bus does not have the left blinker on (indicating they want to re-enter the road). Then again that's normal buses; we don't have school buses.
-

You can pass normal stopped buses here. School buses are special cases, and what he's talking about.
-

You are allowed to pass normal buses. The reason school buses are a special case is they have a pop out stop sign so that kids can cross the street if need be when they are dropped off (as apparently kids can't be trusted to handle that themselves).
EDIT: Hanzo on school buses being a special case, but I sorta explained it
-
Still . Why can't you pass a stopped school bus on the road side.
Not on the side passengers are exiting, of course. That's specifically illegal here. Relevant for trams.
EDIT: Hanzoed.
-
Because kids cross roads?
-
Still . Why can't you pass a stopped school bus on the road side.
Eh...kids. If it's a non-divided road, this allows children a quick and safe and supervised way to cross the street. It it's a divided road, then you can pass going the other way.
-
I don't know how they do it in the US, but over here, in our funny little island nation of tea, biscuits, and bowler hats, we teach our kids the Green Cross Code. We also teach them to wait until the bus has fucked off (or at least to cross behind it).
-
I guess I see the point. I also see the car driver's point - you're not allowed to pass the bus while it's stopped, and knowing bus drivers they're blocking you from passing them while they're driving too. So sit back and boil - you're gonna be here a while.
-
We also teach them to wait until the bus has fucked off (or at least to cross behind it).
Nope. The bus stops traffic and they cross in front and the bus doesn't leave until everyone who crosses is across. In my day, the driver got out and acted as a crossing guard, too (at least in elementary school). These days they have arms that pop out or something. I'm sure regional differences will apply.
-
You'd think they could work the routes to minimise the need for crossing roads…
-
In general, they try to keep the stops in residential areas. But that's not always feasible, depending on local roads.
-

I never understood the needing to do that when dropping off, the kids got to the stop just fine for the morning pickup.
-
We also don't have the same kind of school bus system they do in the US, where most kids get the bus and apparently from just about the age they start school they go to the bus stop by themselves, wait by themselves, and then walk back by themselves on the way home, when they're demonstrably not mature enough to know how to behave around roads, because apparently quite awful numbers of them get squashed on school runs.
In the US I think they tend towards road safety by controls in general - you're only supposed to cross at pedestrian crossings, traffic lights at every junction, etc.
-
when they're demonstrably not mature enough to know how to behave around roads
The vast majority are, but one squashed kid is enough for all kinds of stupid rules to be put in place.
-
they go to the bus stop by themselves, wait by themselves, and then walk back by themselves on the way home
Back when I rode a school bus, yes, I did that. Around here, on the infrequent occasions I drive to work along a residential street, I generally see a parent or two waiting with the kids, at least the younger ones.
-
Well my understanding was from discussing it at length with other USAliens on more than one occasion. Maybe it varies.
-
The parent thing probably depends on neighborhood. I've never seen it where I live but the kids, but I guess some parents may do it if there are only the bottom grades of elementary school (though 6-7 year olds (first graders) should be fine doing it) as then there wouldn't be 5th 6th graders (10-13 year olds) to help out.
-
The parent thing probably depends on neighborhood.
And the parents. Some are more protective than others.
-
got to the stop just fine for the morning
I've seen parents drive their kids to the bus stop in the morning, waiting in the car until the bus comes, and then driving on to work. So, they may not have.
-
the fuck? what is wrong with people?
-
I don't know, it was really fucking annoying because they'd sit in the entrance to my parking lot blocking me from getting out because the bus stopped on the corner.
-
In general, they try to keep the stops in residential areas. But that's not always feasible, depending on local roads.
Not around here. They don't belgiuming care if they stop 6 lanes of traffic. Never mind that they could pull onto a belgiuming side street 100 belgiuming feet away to drop kids off for the belgiuming apartment complex. Or that they actually end up turning on that same belgiuming side street after dropping off the kids at the belgiuming apartments.
Belgiuming Phoenix school buses.
-
You'd think the adjective of Belgium would be Belgian. But I guess it's not funny as it's not censored. Maybe we could get it censored?
-
I don't know, it was really fucking annoying because they'd sit in the entrance to my parking lot blocking me from getting out because the bus stopped on the corner.
And that's why cars are fitted with horns ;)

You try honking at pissy soccer moms. Doesn't do a damn thing >.>

One of the people on that monocle KS, David Malki, has the same name as the guy who does the Wondermark cartoon. It might even be the same guy.
I can't decide whether I think @blakeyrat would like Wondermark or hate it. Probably best to go with the most likely option and assume he think's it's shit.
-
It was a public post, so you don't need one.
still would have had to go to facebook to read it.
-
when I clicked my name in your post to see what you were talking about, the image of that game was @ben_lubar-picture tall. Well, @ben_lubar before they fixed the site to rescale tall images.
-
The bad ideas thread is right here.
Also, i found the game on Steam and looked at the videos and 3 of the 4 people involved look like massive hipsters, including the large bearded guy with long, painted fingernails, and what looked like stuffed animal scarf.
-
Then again that's normal buses; we don't have school buses.
I was talking specifically about school busses. In the US, if one stops to pick up or drop off kids and puts the red flashing lights on, you may not pass it, unless (IIRC) you are on the opposite side of a divided road.
