🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

You angling for your own badger?
Couldn't find anyone angling for a badger; closest I could find was a badger angling:
-
I suppose you could reject this on the basis "recorded, reasoned,"
Yeah, I figured I'd set the goalpoasts impossibly high from the start, rather than having to shift them later. I just don't believe that liberals really blame Obama for the rates increase. I know, I know: cognitive dissonance, but it just seems to me that from the liberal perspective, it's not Obama who's cancelling their existing plans, it's the ‘evil’ employers and insurance companies, just using Obamacare as an excuse. And the fault for that lies with the ‘evil’ Republicans, for gopblocking the act at every step, and slowing down the introduction of the mandate, or whatever it is (I'm not an expert), that would have relieved the worst of the rates hike.

That's probably true in a lot of cases. OK, so I think we can agree that probably in their minds, they're not unhappy about being lied to, but they're still unhappy because they believed the lies.
-
Just to clarify, a belfie is just like a selfie, except instead of your face, you’re taking a picture of your own butt.
-
TRWTF: I already knew what a belfie was.

TRWTF: I already knew what a belfie was.
I didn't, but if I did, I probably wouldn't admit it.

Talking about how the Charlie Hebdo attack in France would have been worse in the US:
To wit, he suggested the main difference is that, in the U.S., “weapons are universally available and so it is actually a very good thing that, that the tensions are not exactly the same because we would expect to have a lot more carnage.”
Duuuuuude. They had AK-47s and a rocket launcher.
-
Bad idea: reading this webcomic if you don't have time.
-
Actually, AK-47's are legal (as in unregulated by the NFA) in the United States, as long as it's a semi-auto variety.
-
Also why is my title not showing?

It's my understanding that the guys in Paris had the automatic versions.

Your understanding is a barrier to pedantry.

why is my title not showing?
Titles
discoconsistently never show [for me] on any post that pops up after the initial page load, until the page itself is F5ed.

Your understanding is a barrier to pedantry.
I don't want Eugene Robinson level douchebaggery from our resident euros or aussies. Also, my understanding was counter-pedantry, not anti-pedantry.
-
AK-47's are legal (as in unregulated by the NFA) in the United States, as long as it's a semi-auto variety.
I bet full-auto AK-47s are legal too, if you pay the tax, pass the background check, and can find someone who will sell you one, and enough money to buy it.
-
They are but the licensing has a much stronger background check and you need a letter from (IIRC) the chief of police in your area basically saying you are responsible and a good guy. But this is based on the fact my neighbor had a full auto permit when I was a kid so I dunno the details on getting said permit.
-
Also why is my title not showing?
titles/long names only show up after baking or something for some Discoreason
-
-
.........
that might also not be out of place in the epic ideas thread. because it's not just bad.... it's epic bad!
-
It could work in evil ideas, too.
-
indeed......
also this thread
in fact figure out a way for it to fit in the good ideas thread and you'll have swept the board!

The Snohomish County sheriff's office says a high school student who reportedly agreed to let another teen punch him to settle a party dispute was fatally injured and the teen accused of delivering the blow has been arrested for investigation of manslaughter...Sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton says the victim fell backward, hitting his head on pavement. A "cheeky" poster in a Peta campaign against the consumption of dairy has been pulled from display after only one day following complaints from a local football club.

Mimi Bekhechi, director of Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), said: "The billboard is a cheeky way to alert passers-by to the dangers of drinking cows' milk.

http://www.gjsentinel.com/news/articles/man-tells-deputies-aiming-a-banana-was-stunt-hes-j/
The deputies, Joshua Bunch and Donald Love, said they feared for their safety when the man, 27-year-old Nathan Rolf Channing, pointed a banana at them while crossing the 29 Road bridge on foot, according to Channing’s arrest affidavit.
Both deputies said they saw that the “gun” was yellow, but feared for their lives nonetheless, the affidavit says.
-
The, level of, incompetence of the, cops in the US, is amazing.

Both deputies said they saw that the “gun” was yellow, but feared for their lives nonetheless, the affidavit says.
....
you know if i was their police chief after hearing them enter that testimony under oath i would fire them as incompetent at the first available opportunity. if i could arrange for that to happen while they are still in the witness box all the better.
i can understand it if it's a real gun or an airsoft gun with the orange "this is not a gun" cap removed (without that muzzle cap airsoft guns can look very realistic) but i'm not willing to buy a banana... nope.
-
the dangers of drinking cows' milk
According to PETA, these dangers include autism. Fucking muppets

Making up facts about cities you've never visited
An American terrorism commentator has apologised for describing Birmingham as a "Muslim-only city" where non-Muslims "don't go" during a Fox News interview.
Steven Emerson told the channel that in London "Muslim religious police" beat "anyone who doesn't dress according to Muslim, religious Muslim attire".

Linking directly to a site that claims to be affiliated with the black market during an article about it:
(What, no Ars Technica onebox?)
The site, which has no relation to the two previous versions of Silk Road, is one of a series of copycat marketplaces trying to tap into the lucrative online trade in drugs and other illegal items. Silk Road Reloaded has been in development for a year and can only be accessed using the I2P anonymity software.
I2P, which has been around since 2003, works in a similar way to the more widely-used Tor network and hides what people are looking at online. Unlike conventional websites, all I2P sites ends in .i2p. A "clearnet" version of Silk Road Reloaded can also be accessed from normal browsers.
The words "from normal browsers" in the original article are a hyperlink... straight to the site in question.
-
That's silly. They're simply saving you from googling it. I mean, the "deep" web is two installation wizards away for any Windows user. It's not witchery.
-
I got a message from a member of a group I'm in asking me literally, verbatim, "and hhow do i find google docs on mycomputer"
You just don't link to that stuff, man. You just don't. Anyone who wants to find it can do so, easily. Shit's all over reddit. Nobody needs Grandma clicking on the article on Facebook and calling the cops claiming her computer's selling drugs.
-
So? No one's going to send the cops for visiting some random site and it doesn't let you buy anything unless you're using I2P so no big deal.
-
Nobody needs Grandma clicking on the article on Facebook and calling the cops claiming her computer's selling drugs.
Five-0 aren't going to turn up at your door for simply viewing the site.
Unless Grandma's selling drugs anyway then she'll get busted for that on Facebook.
-
No, Grandma's going to get all up in arms about it and that's just a headache nobody wants. The cops are (hopefully) smarter than that.
-
-
What's the alternative? Make the claim and cite the link down the bottom? People are still going to go "Oh really?" and click it.
-
The cops are (hopefully) smarter than that.
