🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

Reading the grauniad is generally a bad idea.
I'm guessing (from both the content and the date) that the piece was actually published in the Observer, which is like the snootier metrosexual tosspot sibling of the Grauniad.Alas, the only other newspaper that seems to bother with actual journalism on a regular basis is the Telegraph, and they're going through a phase of being rather rabid right at the moment. (Not quite “Endorse UKIP” but close.) The other papers that claim to be serious (Times, Independent) are just too lightweight; might as well read the Daily Mail if you're that uninterested in genuine analysis and insight.
@DoctorJones said:You just need to look at his picture to see that he's a hipster tosspot.
Definitely looks like Observer material. That hair; that attitude…

No problem, given that UK stands for University of Kentucky.
-
Based on the bunch of my neighbors that are students there this is actually believable rather than the standard "too dumb to dress themselves, must be fake" reaction that most stuff like that generates from me.
EDIT: though based on the amount of branding that gets thrown everywhere they would recognize that it isn't all blue and thus not uni stuff.

The word "cunt" has never been so appropriate
This and the album covers reminds me, we have a band in Australia called Cuntscrape.
[spoiler][/spoiler]
The reverse side of the album cover, iirc, is a pentagram superimposed over an extreme close up of an asshole (not this type of asshole either).
-
That's one that should probably be spoilered and flagged NSFW.
-
Done.
I tried to be funny and put the link to the photo of Tony Abbott in spoiler tags, but they kept breaking the link (though now that I think about it, putting the link in html a tags might have worked, seeing as I had to put the image in img tags for [spoiler] to work on it).
-
It still loads then image, THEN blurs it.
-
And that's (part of) why I have a custom style sheet. I just see this:
-
I've seen Total Biscuit tweets about it, telling people to cool it down. It's fake. Never happened.
While that particular incident might be fake, the NY Times and the NY Post each had an article about "swatting":
-
Oh swatting is real, the fake part is the kid getting 20 years in jail because of it.
-
I'll admit, I was sure the whole swatting thing was a hoax when I first heard about it... it's like, seriously? Someone's dumbass parents didn't instill better sense in them enough times over to create a phenomenon?
Then I heard it was a Call of Duty thing and it all made sense.
-
SWAT-ting is one of the reasons I keep my gamertag separate from my real name and non-anonymous online handle. And I typically don't stream my face either on the rare occasion that I stream something.
This guy gets SWAT-ted and the stream captured it all.
-
This is made super-dangerous by the militarization of the police force in USA (and things are going that way elsewhere too). Someone tries this 30 years ago, a bored patrol car checks it out, shrugs and moves on.
-

No, the concept is real. A DA in LA and at least one other person were SWATted over his involvement in the Brett Kimberlin affair. Short version: BK didn't like people saying things about him that were true and unflattering, he sued them, and unknown persons expressed displeasure in a nasty way.

Brian Krebs has been a target, too (not involving pedophilic domestic terrorists):

This is why I don't live in London

There was a blog going around showing pictures of actual ads for "apartments"--by which I mean "generally a single room"--in NYC and at least one had a whole-room ceiling height of about 4'.

And how many thousands of dollars a month was it going for?

Probably at least $600/mo.

Pasting a badly photoshopped image of Randall Munroe using his laptop on a train into a Remedy change request when you were expecting email text to be in the clipboard.
Filed Under: Not sure if this would actually save it into the call though, Sentence difficult to parse error

All you need have said is 'Remedy change request' and it would have qualified for this topic, really.
Filed Under: And now there's a hybrid Remedy-SFDC thing out there, brrrr....

SFDC is not allowed on this site!

QFT
I ended up having to raise the change 3 times to get it to work. The first two times it complained that a mandatory field could not be null, even when none of the (visible) mandatory ones were null. I couldn't save it or move it to the next stage.
I got quite angry with Remedy advising me that I'd lose my unsaved changes when I was abandoning it.
TL;DR Fuck you Remedy
-
IIRC, Remedy is all Perl on the back end.
Yeah, it belongs right here…

Good to hear it. It's a system I wish I'd never encountered.

Blame Twitter for that. They seem to hate clear images.Mini-rant #3875: why does twitter have to try so hard to NOT let you see images at full resolution?

Or the "edit pencil", then the "Markdown" button, even though it's not markdown at all.

PRESUMING A CASUAL DISCOURSE USER CAN FIND THIS MYSTICAL QUOTE BUTTON.
JUST SO. THIS IS WHY IT IS A BAD IDEA.

Hah! Yes. Should probably be raw. I'm going to open this super urgent ticket on Meta.d.

Racking up the likes on that one. 5 so far. Only one TDWTFer.

Nothing is right about this sign. Nothing. There's at least 4 distinct problems. I found it on a site complaining about bad kerning, so that's the issue that was pointed out to me, but it's like complaining about the shape of the leaves and missing the whole damn forest.
-
Yeah but see the shape 0f the "R"? It's actual Helvetica, not that cheap Arial imitation, so it's all good.
-
How does one write an upside-down "S"?
