Know Your Daily WTF Memes

Where have all the memes gone to?
Many thanks to PJH for the editable wiki page; I am moving the memes descriptions there, and I propose we now use this topic for discussion of which memes should be included and how to curate them.

Cue definition of "blakeyrant".

You should have put that in an Excel sheet. It can do anything.

What? No TDEMSYR? I am disappoint!

You should have put that in an Excel sheet
and then print it, put the printout on a wooden table, take a photograph, fax it...
-
This should be a Wiki so we can edit it! You're the worst of the worst!

I cant believe the president's daughter didn't make the list.

I didn't make that list and I can assure you that it is no laughing matter.
-
Bert [Gladstrong|Glanstrom|Glamstron|Glanstron] etc. I don't think I ever saw it spelled the same way twice.
-
Burt Glandthong. Or whatever.
It was astonishingly stupid the first time.

Buying cake for old bugs:
Forgot about that.
and
doing it WRONG!
Because Discourse deserves its own meme.

What, no reference to Nagesh, the astute observer of human civilization? I must demand a re-cunt!

Ah, that is the community I know and loath… Love. Loathe. Love. Loathve.
Filed under: I compiled this list out of boredom some time ago and was just waiting for any opportunity to post it

Oh, darn, president's daughter and no laughing matter, I forgot about those, I will add to the new wiki page.
I'd rather not put anything too tied to one person in particular, sorry Nagesh and Blakey.
As for the other memes, feel free to add them to the wiki page.
Many thanks, by the way, to PJH for the editable wiki page; I tried to create the topic as such, and whether I couldn't or just did not find the option I do not know, so thanks for doing it for me.

It's an admin feature. Created a new topic rather than messing with your post.

Curate them with a 10' pole and gas mask.

Now you have duplicate content. Easier to just make the original post wiki. Also Google has those "duplicate content penalties" for a reason..

I think that reason mostly involves blackhat SEO techniques.

Easier to just make the original post wiki.
I don't like abusing mod powers to micromanage every little thing on the boards, unnecessarily pissing off the regulars in the process, by needlessly fucking around with their posts.
It worked with the old forums, it's working here. Despite how you think we're using it incorrectly.
I've been moderating in one capacity or another for at least 15 years, and even written software to allow others to perform the task easier on certain platforms as a hobby, and think I've sorta got a handle on it now.
Now since you're apparently amenable to telling other people how to do what they're supposed to be doing, and telling them they've been doing it wrong for years, how about you get some bugs fixed.
Like that stupid one that stops people logging in, for instance. How, for example, is that even a problem?
-
Shrug. The guy asked for it to be a wiki. You'd be helping him, instead of splitting topics and causing confusion with duplicate split topics. I seem to recall others complaining about that... ;)

The guy asked for it to be a wiki.
No. They really didn't. Someone else did.The OP mentioned they'd tried to create a wiki after the fact but didn't specifically ask before-hand.
instead of splitting topics and causing confusion with duplicate split topics
Splitting seem to involve annoying users by messing around with their posts, moving them from one place to another so they lose track of what they were doing.
I merely created another topic and invited all and sundry.
With the OP, I thought it the height of impertinence to simply remove attribution by changing the owner - as one should reasonably do I thought for a wiki-type post - (leaving the OP's only contribution to the post a vague mention in the edit history,) and allow everyone else to crap over the post they'd spent some considerable time composing without any expectation that all that would could be undone by anyone at the whim of a mod
Anyone editing the wiki topic won't have that expectation.
And, yes, I suppose I could have asked the OP if they'd mind, but I didn't.
I seem to recall others complaining about that...
The only complaints I seem to recall were those getting confused/annoyed by... having existing (sub-)topics split up/off from their parent topics... and generally having their posts messed around with.
-
I merely created another topic and invited all and sundry.
So you split the topics, and now there are two where there was one before? ;)

I get why we have to have foreigners, but do we really have to care what they think about maps?

Ah ha... Ok I see.. Thank you. Lots of features to Discourse that I need to discover (I am only scraping the surface).

When I think of "Discourse" and "scraping" in the same sentence, "surface" is not the first relationship that comes to mind.

Question, how does that relate to 'basic user' like I see in my profile? Having multiple types of terminology can be used but here it seems counterproductive.
-
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/how-do-you-know-if-your-forum-software-is-trwtf/827/22 states that you are level 1 pretty fast :D I think it's actually even called basic user. Whatever it is, you should have passed it already.

So I need to review one website's manual to understand how another works. Awesome. Almost as good as SMF's help page referring users to the simplemachines.org wiki page... on every installation.
My point is that this should be better explained in the software deployments... if the profile said 'trust level: 1 - basic user' or similar, there'd be no ambiguity.
-

No, just this site's FAQ that PJH wrote.

I thought the link back to Discourse's meta was fairly important to that FAQ though...

Was it? I dunno, I never followed it. I got enough from what PJH wrote that I didn't feel the need for more detail. YMMV.

(and the fact that I didn't actually see the link to the topic first of all, so the DC meta link was the first thing I hit, which is definitely a mea culpa)
-
So I need to review one website's manual to understand how another works.
There is no centralised manual. Hence the FAQs I started.
-
I meant that it seemed like I'd have to consult the DC main site to understand how this site implemented it, which sounds like a WTF to me, that's all... I didn't realise it was linking to the FAQs here.

I agree, that would be a WTF. And it would, were it not for the noble efforts of @PJH and those who came before.

In the beginning was a FAQ, and it was without form and void, and it was bad. Came theearly adoptersAncient Ones, nerdsmen of valor and wit, who labored to create these words of Truth, and they were good. @PJH took what these daring pioneers had produced and crafted them, organized them, refined them into somethingbettermore useful, but not as funny.
