Memory-holing: Now here on DailyWTF! Abusive mods ahoy!
-
Good job deleting Accalia's thread about adding a poster ID to thread titles. And/or moving it somewhere I don't have access to.
Well whatever, I already chimed in my two cents.
-
So that's why that one notification error'd out on me and lead to something that doesn't exist.
Great display of transparency and trustworthiness, indeed.
An explanation of WTF actually happened would be helpful.
-
Agreed. I saw it briefly and then *poof* gone.
-
And also:
WELL DONE, JEFFWOOD!!!!Your shitty pile of crap software is the best at making things civilized.
If a topic got deleted, FUCKING TELL ME THAT AND DON'T BLAME ME OR MY INTERNET.
-

what? you mean @boomzilla responding to my self flag requesting the topic be deleted?
He did what i asked him to do as topic OP.
I see no mod abuse here.
-
I have not yet begun to abuse. Literally.
-
I'm triggered.
-
+1 for unintentional
Filed under: here, have a as well
-
Sorry, I'll use :jazzhands: next time.
-
Oh right ...
Can any TL4/mod explain this to me?
-
-
I'm guessing they show an error message (possibly) blaming the user's connection.
-
It probably acts like it succeeds while secretly failing, like other TL4 stuff.
-
Hey, the problem persisted.

Thanks for letting us know. We're looking into it.

I don't believe you should have the right to delete my text.
But at least that explains what happened.
-
Today we learnt:
Discourse sorely needs a feature to
- indicate that a thread was deleted
- show a deletion reason
But now I wonder if the posts still exist in the user post export backup or if they got deleted entirely.
-
Actually, these were just Jeff'd to a special place.
-
TWL:
We need an "access denied" page.

TWL:
We need an "access denied" page.If only Discourse were to tell us that we don't have the permission to view the
resourcepage we requested...

Awesome!
Now a robot is telling me my post got hidden because the moderators here are too fucking cowardly to tell me to my face!
Oh and did I miss the memo? Since fucking WHEN is this our community guidelines: http://what.thedailywtf.com/guidelines
This just gets better and better.
Fuck this forum, fuck you cowardly mods.
-
Suck it up and don't be such a dick.
-
Look, if I have to tell the same person the same thing 3 times and they STILL spread the wrong information, I'm going to say they have a memory like a goldfish.
That's not even an insult at that point, it's basically a fact.
Anyway the person I was supposedly insulting has me blocked, remember? The only person who conveyed my words to her was Accalia, when she quoted it. So why not block her? She's the one who did the "crime", since apparently that's now a crime.
-
Anyway the person I was supposedly insulting has me blocked, remember?
Is that supposed to matter?
-
Well I have no idea why people flagged that post, but if they were doing it because they thought I was insulting that person, then yes it does matter.
But whatever, I don't even care if the post is hidden. Much more concerning is the cowardice of moderators hiding behind a bot. If you have someone to say to me, say it to my face.
-
The bot message is automated when a moderator agrees with certain types of flags. There's no "hiding" involved.
-
How many times do I need to tell you to stop being a dick to that person until your goldfish memory retains that information?
-
That's not even an insult
I'm fairly certain the insult didn't involve the goldfish part of your post. The fact that you think it was goes a long way to explaining your narcissistic and childish behaviour on here. Do you really think that the phrase
is the dumbest motherfucker on these forums
Is not an insult? Or not the reason you were flagged? Especially when you persist in bullying people?
-
Well if we're going to hide behind a robot, let's at least fix it.
Multiple community members flagged this post before it was hidden, so please consider how you might revise your post to reflect their feedback.
WHAT feedback? I didn't receive any feedback other than this automated message. I have no idea why the post was flagged, nor do I know who (not even how many) flagged it.
You can edit your post after 10 minutes, and it will be automatically unhidden.
Is this a new edit window you get if the existing one is expired? Or... how does this work? Does the 10 minutes start from when the PM was sent, or from when it was read?
For additional guidance, please refer to our community guidelines.
Is this a thing we're doing now? It's still the default Discourse text, it hasn't been edited at all for our forum. As far as I knew until this afternoon, we only kept this page around as a joke. What's the deal?
-
If you have someone to say to me, say it to my face.
I'll also note that this has been done and (obviously) didn't work. Not to speak for others, but I'm not a fan of banging my head into a wall. It's like dealing with my kids. After quiet reasoning doesn't work I yell at them and threaten them because they decided not to respond appropriately to the other stuff.
-
Well at least this time it was an actual insult towards an actual human being.
-
If you have someone to say to me, say it to my face.
i've said it to your face before, in a manner i felt was calm, reasonable and polite, your response, and i quote directly here, was:
I was here before you joined. I didn't choose to hang out with you, you chose to hang out with me.
so this time rather than saying so in a "private" message i'll say it to you in public:
you
couldshould try to be less of a jackass.i know it's your forum persona and all that, but it's getting really really really old.
-
Well at least this time it was an actual insult towards an actual human being.
Are you, like, trying to get banned?
Like one of those "suicide by cop" kind of things?
-
Are you, like, trying to get banned?
Not really, although at this point it might come as a relief.
I just don't believe that there's such a thing as "online bullying", but I'm not going to press that argument because I already know where it'll go. I will, however, say once more: if you care about what some random wanker on the Internet you'll never meet thinks about you, that's your problem, not his.
Like I said, at least this time there's cause for the crap, even if there's still no framework of behavior I'm actually violating, or at least none in plain text I can read. Last time the reason was utterly ridiculous.
-

If RacePro was black and you kept calling him "nigger", would that be OK? If his son died and you told him he deserved to die, would that be OK?
Sure, that's not exactly bullying. But you're making him unhappy, which makes you an asshole. And since the observers mostly find the insults unfunny and uncomfortable, that's not even a likable asshole. So RacePro and his friends are sad, onlookers are uncomfortable and you're unhappy because you feel everyone is ganging up on you.
Therefore, what you're doing isn't really beneficial for anyone. So, even if you could find a way to verbally defend it on some level, why keep doing it?
-
So, even if you could find a way to verbally defend it on some level, why keep doing it?
I guess I'm just Hitler.
-
If there are no time-travelers coming in to stop you, how bad can you be?
-
I guess I'm just Hitler.
If his son died and you told him he deserved to die, would that be OK?
There are circumstances where it could be. Imagine if the son was some kind of vile criminal who got killed robbing a bank or something. (It'd probably still be an asshole thing to say.)
-
Oh and did I miss the memo? Since fucking WHEN is this our community guidelines: http://what.thedailywtf.com/guidelines
That's the default that ships with Discourse. It was roundly ridiculed on Day 1.
Edit: And I see from your later post that you are already well aware of that. Yes, it's stupid that the automated message links to it is if it were really relevant to this community. Welcome to Discourse.

This post is deleted!

Not in this thread, but I figured, given the context, it wasn't a mistake worth pointing out.
Thanks though ;)

Yeah, that's bullshit. Mostly because you can't leave the definition of bullying up to the alleged bully, because who's going to admit to bullying?
When we were accused of bullying by gratuitously flagging for whoosh, my first thought was "fuck off, that's not bullying", but if you've been repeatedly told that someone doesn't like what you're doing and you continue for no reason other than amusement, that's a pretty good definition of bullying. You might think the person is oversensitive for feeling bullied, and you might be right but it's common courtesy to stop being a dick to them if they've told you you're being a dick to them and asked you repeatedly to stop being a dick to them.
-
Yeah, that's bullshit. Mostly because you can't leave the definition of bullying up to the alleged bully, because who's going to admit to bullying?
I think there's a need for some salt if you leave it up just to the victims, too. Which (it should be obvious) isn't to say that I don't think it's a thing.
-
Seems to me like the potential harm from declaring something that's not bullying as bullying and asking someone to knock it off is less than the potential harm from declaring something that is bullying as not bullying and turning on the potential-victim, so in cases that seem borderline, I'd rather err on the side of "it's dickish, knock it off". This is assuming you can tell when claims are 100% unfounded, since you don't want to silence productive discussion, but I think that's a fairly safe assumption.
-
I don't believe you should have the right to delete my text.
Save it to a txt file on your computer. But on their servers, they can delete wtf they want to.

Like I said, at least this time there's cause for the crap, even if there's still no framework of behavior I'm actually violating, or at least none in plain text I can read.
@PJH, can we add, "Don't be a cunt to fellow forum members" to the Community Guidelines?
-
Doesn't that go under
Be agreeable, even if you disagree
?

QFT
You can't go placing your "Vote for
$cause
" sign on someone's lawn and say they don't have the right to remove it. That's just not how that works. You also can't put text on someone else's server and say they don't have the right to remove that either.Filed Under: If it's @boomzilla's lawn you better get off it way before you put the sign up
-
I am with blakeyrat on the fact that the guidelines don't really apply here.
I am not saying it's okay to be a jerk nur there is a clause saying it's bad to detail topics, to name just one example on where the guidelines don't apply....So we'd have to do a complete rewrite to make the guidelines make sense here!
