Trufuel WTF (not technology related)

I buttumed 2 cylinders side by side, not a double-piston arrangement.
You could use a rocker. And yeah, given, slightly less compact. I still don't like the sound of "gas spring" though.

That might be a crappy term, but it's theirs. Judging from the animation, I'm guessing it just means "using gas as a hydraulic fluid." Maybe that's sufficient, I dunno.
-
Maybe. Just sayin' they talk about efficiency but not reliability.

Well, it's just an experimental thing anyway, now. Presumably, they'd improve it if they planned on putting it into a car. This is Toyota, not Lucas.
-
All because if anything goes wrong, you are at 31,000 feet with no engine and that is not the safest place to be...
I'd rather be at FL310 with no engine than at 150' with no engine trying to take off from KEGE (that'd be Eagle/Vail)...

Good point.
-
I would probably just give you style points for being an asshole with a fucking turbine engine.
I sure did...if you checked the abbr title on my previous post.
-
Are we still talking about jet engines on road vehicles?
-
Where do your legs go?
-
-
Where do your legs go?
you don't need legs when you have twin turbo fans on your motorcycle.
-
But what about when you get to your destination? Not everyone's got detachable legs

you
don't needwon't have legs for long when you have twin turbo fans on your motorcycle.FTFY
-
that too.
-
But what about when you get to your destination? Not everyone's got detachable legs
If you detach the standard legs, you can get detachable ones fitted.
Alternatively, you have a wheelchair with rocket boosters, of course.

How the hell does this thing works without pistons? How does a fan turn itself?
With duck tape.
I still don't like the sound of "gas spring" though.
What if the gas spring is the compression stroke of the diesel combustion chamber in the other end?
-
-
That goes surprisingly well with the Franz Ferdinand song I'm listening to

That guy's just bonkers though...

You say that like it might be considered to be a bad thing.

Admittedly, his talent as a mad genius makes for some interesting YouTube videos, but I still wouldn't like to live closer than 100 km down-wind from the guy.

They have to be, until someone designs a small 4-stroke that can run in any orientation without leaking all its oil out or burning up when gravity's holding all the oil away from the sump.
I'm pretty sure the aeronautics industry solved this problem (and more, think negative G) before or during WWII.
-
And the (car) racing community. Dry sumps aren't exactly new..
-
They are also not simple or cheap and still don't work when the engine is upside down.
-
-
Well played...

a cup of coffee at -30ยบ is too cold and one at 90ยบC is
too hot.the right temperatureThe brewing temperature of the water used is very important. It should be between 195 F (91 C) and 205 F (96 C).

You might want to take a look at an inverted oil system -- this is typical of what you'd find under the cowl of a competition aerobatic aircraft -- and it looks to be not that expensive to fit to a small engine, even!
-
and it looks to be not that expensive to fit to a small engine, even!
Small is relative. On an engine of this size, I would really expect splash lubrication and since even 2-stroke engines are rarely operated entirely inverted (and not for very long if they are as they will eventually run out of fuel in the carb, etc) it should work sufficiently.

Yeah, having a carb means that your oil system is the least of your upside-down worries ;)
-
Not really. If you have a carb, you have a chance of running out of fuel before the engine locks up from lack of oil pressure. ;)

That's one for the Awesomely Bad Ideas Thread.

Looks better off as a fertilizer spreader.
Meanwhile in Great Britain: 60 mph / 90 kmh jet-powered kart.
Filed under: I think he likes pulse jet engines.
-
That is cool, but I have just two reservations:
- Being separated from a glowing red pipe by only a thin racing seat
- You can get those speeds with a 125cc bike engine; that kart would handle a lot better too
-
He can't hear you, because JET KART! HA HA HAA!
I stand by my point that he must be bonkers, so he still doesn't disappoint.
EDIT Filed under: Also, those jets are noisy

But that would not have a freaking pulse jet engine.

The guy certainly knows how to celebrate 1M subscribers.

Ironically, he firsts posts this video on a site that is not YouTube.

Is it this?

No, it is the launch itself. Vessel pays content creators for the early release rights to their content. It is another video site that has the idea they can unseat YouTube as the top video site. They will be tits up as soon as the VC money runs out.
-
has the idea they can unseat YouTube as the top video site
...which they're going to do by being more annoying for the end user?
Well all righty then.
-
On the other hand, PLEASE SOMEBODY UNSEAT YOUTUBE AS THE TOP VIDEO SITE!
-
They definitely need some competition, but I don't think they have enough carrot at the end of this stick to even make a dent.
"Hey, let's compete with YouTube by getting their top content creators to post on our site first. We will get people to pay $5/month and then give them a cut of the profits."
Not going to work.
