35000 replies, 35001 posts.
Not counting all the deleted and moved posts. Those numbers are subject to change; only the post ID is permanent (within the topic). If I get this posted before somebody else posts, it will, by pure coincidence, be post ID 36000 in this topic.
Edit: Yes!

Well, teeeeeeechnically, it's post ID 660465. It's just the 36,000th post that's been inserted into this thread. As can be clearly seen by the JSON that includes all the posts in this thread.

That's a nice bit of ry there.

Yes, discoursistently, there are two post IDs, one within the topic and one global ID. Discourse uses the global ID for something, but only the topic ID is normally user-facing.
-
I know.
And I'll swear to "in this topic" being edited into your post while I was typing up (read as: fiddling with the gorram IE F12 tools to get the post ID) my response. But I decided not to let

Yeah, I was in a hurry to post it, then made about 3 or so ninja edits to clarify what I wrote originally.

TRWTF is that you'd name your Windows machine Linux. That's just degrading!
What Windows machine? I have dual boot at home and Linux at work, which is where I was installing it.

Oh. I just went with " Honeypot"...
Side note: I almost fat-fingered that to "honeypit".

What did you fill the shells with?
It was a combination of seasoned ground turkey / beef. Plus extra cheese, sour cream, hot sauce and lettuce for toppings. Ate waaay to much. Will fix again.

the JSON that includes all the posts in this thread.
This is one of my favorite Discofeatures, especially with threads in the thousands or tens of thousands of posts.

Status:
Git is
Auto packing the repository for optimum performance.
"Optimum performance" apparently means this PULL I'm trying to do takes 48 times longer than normal.
Of the 4 git.exe processes running, there is one that's using about 45 MB of RAM and 4% CPU power. So it's doing... something?
Still waiting for it though.
-
Status: Spotify just introduced me to BERRY ROLL and Cantoy, which are japanese bands I'd never heard of before at all, and that I've decided I rather like. Still wish it had Guitar Vader though, since I feel like Baby-t, I Love Love You, Super Brothers, and Magical Girl would go well on this radio.
EDIT: And then Chameleon Glider by Bunny The Party began, which I probably like better than the other two...
-
So it's doing... something?
It's the supervisor process, just waiting to kill all its children if it's parent process happens to exit.

I'm officially convinced Google Cardboard is goggle tucking with facefuck.

Status: Git finally finished that pull. Now I've forgotten what even was in that branch...
Definitely optimal performance there, Git. Optimal beyond belief. Randomly sidelining my work for like 5 minutes. Love it.
-
What exactly were you doing that created enough loose files in git for a garbage collection to take 5 minutes? Are you using a NAS with the server on Mars?

Cantoy
Hmm⦠Japanese thrash metal⦠I'd find that weird if I wasn't already a fan of these

In a class on data structures in C taught by a mustachioed fellow:
: "Can you do
&z
?" No, what is&z
? I don't know,z
is constant. Can you do&5
?
: [thinking] No, I'm pretty sure you can use the ampersand operator on z, since it's, you know, an array.
-
It is?
-
I'd forgotten them. They're fine too, but definitely a bit less my thing.
-
?
-
I think it doesn't work on a numeric constant. Which feels weird but that's C for you.
-
I regret clicking that. Go looks hideous even when there's only one useful line of code.
But if it's doing what I think it's doing, yes.
-
I think it doesn't work on a numeric constant. Which feels weird but that's C for you.
Maybe (I know it works on string literals, though sometimes the compiler grumbles about it), but it damn sure works on a variable holding an array of
int
s.
-
You think that looks bad? What languages do you Luke the aesthetics of?
-
C++
{}
s inline? Horrific.
-
-
I plead being different on the typo, and what are your opinions on GNU style indentation for C++?
-
(Luke
(language ugly)
(both (you fox)))So there.
-
It works on any named variable. Including an array. Although, guess the output of this snippet:
int z[5]; if( z == &z ) { printf( "z and &z are equal - WTF?" ); } else { printf( "z and &z are different" ); }
-
I'm not terribly fond of GNU - I subscribe to the Gospel of The One True Brace - but it is acceptable in that it is still easy to read.
-
I know it works on any named variable. My professor derped, hence the status.
-
But it'll say they're the same since z is already a pointer, whereas &z will get you the address of the array pointed to by z.
-
What exactly were you doing that created enough loose files in git
How the fuck do you create files "in" Git? It's an executable.
for a garbage collection to take 5 minutes?
I have no idea, just normal day-to-day usage. I remember it did this exact same thing to me a few months ago.
Instead of bringing my work to a halt, how about Git just clean up a couple files each time it runs? Or how about it be developed by competent non-idiots so it could have, you know, a service to take care of shit like this without bugging the shit out of the user?

That Old Style is outdated!

You are entitled to your opinion, even though it's wrong.

So many wasted lines. So much wasted disk space.

As long as you don't use Whitesmiths or Horstman. Though I imagine Fox finds both of those to be microagressively named.

Wait, where do I fall in by listening to Electro Swing?
And where do I fall in by listening to Latin Jazz, which is mostly covers of songs written 50+ years ago?

If you make something that calls for ground beef, use ground beef. If you absolutely must have turkey instead, make something else.
