Status: my hand hurts too much for typing so I guess I spend today watching videos and bored as hell.
Sometimes my hand goes numb if I sleep on it badly. Could make me unable to type up to 1-2 days. You'd think it'd be great - no work, just enjoy your lazing around.
Nope, it sucks. Hate it.
-
I already hate this, I can't work but I also can't play Xbox.
Why is this forum ALWAYS broken? Can we have just ONE DAY EVER where the notifications bubble loads in under 67 seconds? Jesus.
-
I'm a bit disappointed Damon's in it, though, because I'd rather not give him any of my money if I can avoid it.
What's your problem with Matt Damon?

He's an SJW and a crank. That's his prerogative, but I'm not obligated to support his lifestyle.

In the real world, M4-style rifles are often illegal for hunting (for deer anyways) because they aren't powerful enough to ensure a quick, clean kill.
Where? In our state they are perfectly legal for deer hunting, and are more than adequate for taking deer.
That said, I live in an area where your shots will be under 200 yards due to terrain and brush. But, if our government trusts a .223 to take down 200lb soldiers, I think we can trust it to humanely kill a 200lb deer.
-
-
Nebraska law requires the projectile to retain a certain kinetic energy at 100 yards and factory 5.56/.223 ammo doesn't meet that. It's close though, so hot handloads can make it, but you're just begging for harassment by the game wardens if they catch you with a .223.
I think .22-250 is the minimum here.

/// <summary> /// Function to test if an object is still instantiated (ie Not NULL). /// </summary> /// <param name="_AnyObject"></param> /// <returns></returns> protected bool ValidateObject(object _AnyObject) { return (_AnyObject != null); }
Who comes into a codebase and decides that what it really needs is a wrapper around
thing != null
?

It's often more valuable to make an injured enemy soldier than a dead one.
-
There's also the cost thing. Most soldiers aren't worried about "quick clean kills", only stopping the enemy, and 5.56 is good enough while being much cheaper and lighter than the big, heavy, high-recoil .30-06 we used in the World Wars.
-
Yeah, weight is super important.
-
Really? I had not heard about this. In what respect?
It's a British newspaper, so, as usual, take it with as much salt as appropriate.
-
Presumably it can be overridden as it is protected.

hot handloads
That reminds me: I grew up in an area where shooting groundhogs was a thing we did for fun. My rifle of choice was a .300 Win Mag that I handloaded with fast powder and light bullets. I forget the muzzle velocity, but you really did not have to adjust for bullet drop until >500 yards, IIRC.
-
I bet a .300 Win Mag would only leave puffs of pink mist when used on groundhogs.

Status: a certain Ukrainian game developer has given me private read-only access to a git repository containing his Alien Swarm mod and told me "pull requests accepted". This brings the total number of popular Alien Swarm mods I've had source code access to at some point to ALL OF THEM.

Status: I bought some crunchy peanut butter the other day because all we had was /spit creamy. OMG...so much better.
-
all we had was /spit creamy.
Can anyone think of a reason they make non-crunchy peanut butter?
-
People be crazy.
-
I prefer it.
-
Oh wait, if someone wanted to add in peanuts (or other nuts) themselves I guess starting with creamy could work though crunchy would be less work.
I prefer it.
I refer you to the right honorable boomzilla'sPeople be crazy.
-
I am also crazy.

Figures.

In standard warfare, this is very much the case. Then your enemy is down a soldier, at least for a while, but they also have to expend resources on caring for the injured soldier.
I'm not sure how well this translates when fighting wars with groups like ISIS, though.

On today's edition of minor Discourse UX enhancements that would be better than adding more polar bears:
Could you put the full topic name in the title attribute of the topic name display up there?

They may not expend as many resources, but they'll likely expend some. Probably bad for morale, too. It's one thing to witness a painless martyrdom and another to see one bleed out while screaming in pain.
-
You are a big fish in an extremely tiny pond. Congratulations.
-
Snipers do that thing like in Saving Private Ryan where they try to immobilize a soldier so they can then pick-off his colleagues who try to render aid.
But yeah, I'm guessing ISIS is less interested in rendering aid to anybody considering their end-goal requires the murder of something like 98% of the world's population.

Even so, they need murderers to do it. I don't know how they're organized, but I'd still bet that members of a cell or squad or whatever will try to help our their buddies.

At this point you might as well wait until June 20.

Status: apparently, not only is it OK for a shopping centre to give a concert every week in the middle of a densely populated city, it is also absolutely necessary for the music to be SO FUCKING LOUD THAT YOU CAN HEAR IT FROM A KILOMETRE AWAY, despite the audience (a dozen people or so) being literally like 20m from the stage.
God bless those industrial ear muffs. And the fact that I'll be living somewhere else in a year.

ALL OF THEM.
Congrats. That would be more meaningful if it weren't the same as saying "All 3 of them, one of which happens to be mine."

Status: The idiot I'm hosting a GoToMeeting for hasn't joined the phone call, and hasn't given me keyboard control even though I've asked him in email, in chat, and sent him a request through the app.
Oh, look, he quit the meeting and came back in. *eyeroll*. That'll help.

I can't find a copy of episode 5 on YouTube that has English subtitles. : (
One claims to in the video title but there's no subtitles on the screen.

Well, sort of. The casing was .300 Win Mag. The bullets were the lightest .30 caliber boat tails I could order. The powder was a fucking guess as they don't list chamber pressures for .300 Win Mag with super light bullets.
So, they really didn't have an obscene amount of kinetic energy. Well, for groundhog hunting they did... But the idea was I wanted something that would shoot as flat as possible out to long ranges.
Big cartridges + fast powder + light bullets = flat trajectory. So my handloads were what I came up with to solve that equation. Now, 15 years experience under my belt, I realize it was massive overkill.

We watched that episode earlier this week
Cue two toddlers going "nang-nang-nang-nang" for 20 minutes

Not even in the annotations?
That sucks.
