Mine always shows my very first avatar in the preview window, but it otherwise works without a hitch now.

Status: Broke one of the arms on my office chair again. I probably could have asked for a new chair, but why do that when there's a roll of packing tape nearby?
Status 2: Chair is "repaired" with a few strategically-placed wraps of packing tape.

I probably could have asked for a new chair, but why do that when there's a roll of packing tape nearby?
Because then it would stop breaking.

Status: One of my cow-orkers just called me up and asked me if anything messed with my desktop when I logged in this morning, because all of her icons were moved around from last night.
Sub-status: While checking the meaning of "nonplussed" to see if it were le mot juste I discovered it apparently means the opposite in the US of what it means everywhere else, supposedly. So I guess my cow-orker got an Okkkaaaaaaay face instead of a nonplussed on.

nonplussed
Does it not mean 'unimpressed' in the US then? Or do I need a new dictionary chip?

I used to know what nonplussed meant. It was a perfectly ordinary word and it either never occurred to me that anyone might think it meant 'taken aback' or it never occurred to me that anyone might think it meant 'unimpressed', depending on which one isn't actually right. Then it became an acknowledged fact that 'everyone' gets it the wrong way round, and the wrong meaning was introduced to me in the context of 'everyone gets it wrong' and now it's hopelessly mixed up in my head.
Doesn't matter how many times I look it up, I can never remember which is the right and which is the wrong meaning.

Or do I need a new dictionary chip?
This.Back in a sec; gotta find the number for my supplier…

Google: (oops)
non·plussed
nänˈpləst/Submit
adjective
1.
(of a person) surprised and confused so much that they are unsure how to react.
"he would be completely nonplussed and embarrassed at the idea"
2.
NORTH AMERICANinformal
(of a person) not disconcerted; unperturbed.
-
This was a surprise to me. My mental map had it closer to meaning 1, but "confused so much" seemed a more intense flavor of meaning to me.

Huh...so it's like the inflammable of the arithmetic world? Or not.

Trying to get your back?
Some of us had work to do in between posts.

Lack of caring enough to remember whether any given thread is in the excluded list is a barrier to...huh, well, not much.

It's obviously Hyper-V's fault that your connection sucks.
No, but it was Hyper-V's fault that I had to shut down a freaking VM in order to coalesce snapshots. It is also Hyper-V's fault that I had to coalesce the snapshots in order to expand the volume.
Hyper-V is a fucking turd, and MS should be ashamed for putting out such a shoddy, buggy, broken, piece of shit. They should let the open source community get ahold of it. They would fix it right up. ;)

So TR is you for not using a different VMM?
TR is the client for not using a different VMM, because Hyper-V is built in to Windows Server.
I fucking hate Hyper-V and would never use it if given another option. Even Xenserver is worlds ahead of Hyper-V. Hell, ProxMox is better than Hyper-V. Hyper-V is rubbish.

So why'd you buy it, moron?

For someone who loses his shit when others don't read properly, you sure are shit at it yourself:

Your reading comprehension is also rubbish. No telepathy required:
TR is the client for not using a different VMM
...also...
I fucking hate Hyper-V and would never use it if given another option.
So, the only reason I buy Hyper-V is that it is included in Windows Server. But, I never use it.

Do as he says, not as he does.

It's taking close to 20 minutes to heat up the fryer oil. Probably about time to change it again...

I thought you were referring to @accalia's popcorn. I am TR .

You're not using a microwave oven? Luddite.
Can you share your recipe for microwaved "fried" chicken?

Can you share your recipe for microwaved "fried" chicken?
Speaking of which, @frostcat, can you recommend a place for fried chicken that doesn't stuff you to the gills like Babe's does?

It would be easier to just dredge a chunk of rubber in some flour.

I like to think you meant to @-mention someone else, but then Discourse happened.

This is a . Maybe not TRWTF, but it's a .
Agreed. Basically, the back-end requires access to AWS for payroll calculations and stuff; it won't launch if it can't get to AWS. And before you ask, there is a switch you can pass to not require AWS; it doesn't work

Maybe your work should have a back up connection. Or the main connection be resilient.
edit: including @raceprouk as I replied to the wrong post
-
Normally, it's OK. But sometimes…
Thing is, the connection's provided by O2, but the lines are all BT. BT generally refuse to do anything because it's O2's hardware at the exchange, and O2 are just useless. Plus the lines themselves aren't exactly the latest tech…
-
BT generally refuse to do anything because it's O2's hardware at the exchange causing the problem
FTFY.O2 are essentially a reseller for anything other than mobile anyway. The access circuits aren't provided by them, nor is the backhaul.
edit: not all of their mobile backhaul is theirs either but the RAMs are.

Already ran that in the @shadowmod thread; it seems the badger query takes into account all posts up to the time it was run.
Run that query tomorrow, after the new backup is uploaded; I'll be top then.

Yes, well, I haven't caught up yet, and also I wasn't checking on you, I was checking on me. As of that post I am a long way from getting the spoon back, and not unhappy about that.
