There's a non-zero chance I'd have to start with a fresh version of Windows, and I've done way too many tweaks to this install to want that.
Windows reinstalls are inevitable. Better just to accept them and keep a text file with the list of programs to install and customizations to make.
In all my time I think I've had to re-install Windows ONCE due to corruption. And even then, it was probably just because I YET have the skills to fix it.

It got retired. It was a P1 IBM desktop. I can't remember where I got it from.
I still have it. It came in handy a couple years back. A friend of mine wanted to mod an XBox (original) to add in a large hard drive, so he could install some emulators on it.
The trick with modding the XBox was (going from memory) that the XBox won't recognize an "unsigned" IDE hard drive. So you can't just install XBMC on a hard drive and do a direct swap.
Instead, what you have to do is burn a CD with a tiny OS on it. The OS will boot, and will "unlock" the hard drive. The XBox will also boot, and unlock it's hard drive.
You then hotswap the IDE plugs. Something something the XBox firmware is now rooted and replaced and you have a custom XBox.
The point is, the only way this would have worked was if I had a spare computer I didn't care about destroying by mistake and had IDE ports.
That's the fate of MOVIES1

Yeah, same with the 360 and (I assume) the One. Certain drives could get their mainboard flashed with a firmware that the Xbox likes, but it indeed requires DOS-level shenanigans.

JE-S-003
JE-S-006
(S-001, S-002, S-004, and S-005 don't really matter. 1,2 and 4 were all Pentium 4 boxes running Server 08/Linux, 5 was a PowerEdge 1750)
S-006 is currently taking it like a champ, running 3 Minecraft Servers, a Space Engineers server, a DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory server, and one Windows (virtualized S-001) and one Linux VM.
S-003 is an RD Web Gateway, RRAS/VPN, and HTTP(S) server.

I don't know if it even supports the drive sizes that are common today.
I remember that with NT4 you created a small boot partition just to get around the drive size limitations of the installer or was it the bootloader ... it was something silly where you ended up with cutting up your standard HD of a few GB (in that time) in smaller portions just to get the damn thing to install and run.

Well it's really awesome that you don't actually know that until you try installing both roles on one machine. Then sh$t hits the fan.
Now though, I've learned to leave ADDS by itself.
Other Fun though - Guess what happens when you virtualize a DC, but the server running the VM is on the domain!

Some backstory if anyone else decides to try it:
End findings: If you host your AD server as a VM on the fileserver that's also supposed to be domain connected, you're gonna have a bad time.

Lol that bug report is wrong. It's not weird to have your DC virtualized, in fact, that's a very sane configuration! Because your DC should have a whole server to itself! ADDS conflicts with SO MUCH STUFF

Right, but due to how FreeNAS currently does AD joins (for some reason, if it doesn't work right on the first try, you best reboot the whole damn thing), it will react poorly if the domain isn't up when it asks to join, and Bad Things happen.
It's really quite amusing to watch, if it's not your own system you're trying to get working again.

I'm trying to do something a bit weird: install a second copy of Windows right next to the current one, then remove the current one, then expand the new one to use the whole disk.
But because moving and resizing system partitions is a pain in the ass/impossible, dynamic disks are the only way to achieve that.

Can you increase the maximum recipients for email please
Sure, what do you want it set to?
800
...It's currently set to 15 after the salesman incident.
Apparently marketing have sent too many newsletters/offers/etc out via a popular bulk email service and it's now refusing to email any more out for a while. As we have a TIME-LIMITED EXTRA-SPECIAL DEAL that all customers need to receive to receive this is a disaster.
I've suggested that we would likely end up on every RBL under the sun in short order and that might affect other business operations, surprisingly they seem to have listened to me. I've still set up a script to notify me if someone decides to email 800 people off our domain 15 at a time.
