Testing candidate's mettle S02E02

Look at me! Two episodes in two days. Also, probably the last one for some time. Not sure how long can these be interesting, anyway.
Today's guy is a senior. Let's call him NotTiny. All I have is a Skype contact. Waiting for boss to mail me CV. He's about to enter any minute now (8 minutes late - not good!). Yay organization!
That's all for now.
-
That's a LOT of buzzwords in a soup.
E-business is a skill now? TortoiseSVN?

Not for long if you keep finding competent players like last time. It's more fun when we can all point and laugh.

Sounds like the sort of nonsense you get for "skills" on LinkedIn.
"Joe Blow added a new skill: Department of Defense"
-
TIL you can pump up the number of languages in your CV by listing all the regional variations of your native tongue.
Why didn't I think of that!?
-
@cartman82 said in Testing candidate's mettle S02E02:
TortoiseSVN?
That's short for "can't CLI"

Why didn't I think of that!?I do that a lot in jest. But putting it on CV? Really?
Filed under: Also, diff between Croatian and Bosnian can probably be printed onto a single A4 sheet of paper

@cartman82 Code igniter is apparently important enough to be listed twice.
Also. "Codes"?
-
@cvi said in Testing candidate's mettle S02E02:

I was just looking at that. Maybe some framework?
-
@cartman82 Hey, he not only knows CodeIgniter, but apparently is a code igniter!
This guy already looks more fun than the previous one.
-
@cartman82 If it is a framework or something like that, I would like to nominate that for the worst name ever. It's like 100% ungoogleable in the given context.
-
He's now officially 25 minutes late :/
Our last exchange:
He: So see you at 2 PM. We could stop by the local pizza place I know.
Me: Ummm.... yeah we could
He: Once you see me, you'll know whyWTF was that!?
I guess he ate too much pizza...
-
@cartman82 said in Testing candidate's mettle S02E02:

He's trying to seduce you.
-
@cartman82
Or maybe he thinks he's hot stuff and you'rea furryflexible in your attractions?
-
The guy went on the old company address.
Screwup on both our parts
-
Finally in elevator. Called my boss to ask him the floor......
BUT WHY HE DIDN'T CALL THE FIRST TIME!?
-
@Onyx said in Testing candidate's mettle S02E02:
That's short for "
can'tDoesn't have time to learn all the CLI bullshit when there's work to be done"
-
Finally, an expert in E-learning and E-Learning! You normally have to go through a specialist agency to find one of those.
-
Not a good start :/
-
He knows how to Plan, Coordinate, and Engineer a Project . I think you should hire him.
-
I allowed jQuery. Not bothered by all that extra space though.
Poor typing skills in sublime.
-
Trying to figure out why nothing is happening.
Lack of syntax highlighting doesn't tell him anything.
-
@cartman82
So, apparently, the key to getting @cartman82 to allow you the nice tools is to show up late because you went to the wrong address.
-
Pet peeve. People needlessly using
document.ready
.
-
Wrong function :/
-
@cartman82 I still can't get over those invalid tags...

Compare google foo with the kid yesterday.

@cartman82 said in Testing candidate's mettle S02E02:
Wrong function
What are you talking about? See,
document
getsready()
, then it'sdone()
, and you can add an optionalcigarette()
at the end.
Filed under: There's also
premature()
but no one likes talking about it, engine is working overtime today

The candidate entered my VM and doesn't know how to exit.
I love it when this happens. Get to see how resourceful they are.
-
@cartman82 There's a chance he will ultimately post question on StackOverflow with all the specifics of your test, and the next guy you'll interview will copy and paste the answer that will inevitably show up.
-

-
@cartman82
Q: How to exit Vim?
A: Ctrl+Alt+F2, then login, thenkillall -9 vim
-
dat split.....
-
You can find ANYTHING on Stack Overflow.
-
@cartman82 dammit, forgot to screencap the URL :/
-
He thinks jQuery can convert a javascript array directly into table rows.
-
@Gąska said in Testing candidate's mettle S02E02:

MAH PRVACY!
-
Trying to figure out how to break apart lines.
-
He'll never make it. Not in javascript.
Question: Since he came in bragging about 10 years of PHP experience, do I offer him to switch over to PHP?
Don't know how to do poll here, so I'll be taking replies for 5 minutes or so.
-
@cartman82 said in Testing candidate's mettle S02E02:
Trying to figure out how to break apart lines.
My first idea: Parse first line, remember offsets, use substring + trim on the rest. Should be a bit faster than what the first guy did (regex).

I say if he wants to dig that hole for himself, it won't hurt to give him a shovel...
-
Oh God, he hardcoded offsets...

He doesn't even know git, he's useless

Do it. PHP should be even more
-
I hereby dub this candidate "Paul Bean"
-
@cartman82 said in Testing candidate's mettle S02E02:

Might as well, you're not going to learn anything more by watching him flounder around with jQuery.
-
Wonder how long will it take him to realise
substring()
isindex,length
, notstart,end
...Or not? I forget...
-
He might actually push through with this monstrosity...
-
@cartman82 said in Testing candidate's mettle S02E02:
Or not? I forget...
Not, if
"Hello".substring(1,4)
givesell
(which I guess w3schools would be correct about as it is rather easy to check). That's unless you've got 3 == 4. :p
-
@dkf or unless W3Schools is wrong
-
Agh, those braces. My javascript instincts scream...
