I would assume so, but no one's sanity is safe in this thread. Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li! Cthulhu ftahgn!

Yeah, brain fart on my part.

It occurs to me that the main difference between me and Swampy is that Swampy thinks only one of the two of us is insane.

My suggestions for Video are the same as for computing...
Break all the rules... Those rules that won't break KEEP.
When you overthink things you are often creating problems that don't exist.
One of my greatest solutions eliminated the Yellow Post-its for the users monitors.
The users had 5 or 6 sessions open and would have to write down those numbers for entry in the next task. The solution was to store those Work order #, Inventory *, Purchase order # etc in a file with their
name, file type . txt. When they switched to that part of the system that required the number be entered. They would hit a "." and the last 10 values they had entered would be displayed. It was 2 or 3 months later before they picked it up. and used it. There was 3 or 4 places where I had missed doing the updates and they let me know. Dang it felt good to see the users using something that really needed. No more yellow post-its everywhere. They could go away for holidays and see the most recent items they had worked on.
There was no thinking it out. Just visiting the users and seeing what they were doing. Don't think Do.

I used to write VB, many years ago, and I still have a copy of VB5 somewhere, so it's not like I couldn't try to follow what the code does.
The problem is that there is a part of me that wants to port this to PHP just to see what would happen...

@Onyx perfectly cromulent PHP, not sure what the problem is?
-
@Arantor imagine the noodles using that!
-
@Onyx not hard to imagine, I mean PHP already ships with
Option Explicit
turned off andOn Error Resume Next
as the default behaviour.I can noodle PHP pretty good
But believe me, if I were attempting SSDS-PHP, I doubt it would be possible to follow what it does afterwards, I'd jam it worse than SSDS already is...
Maybe this weekend, we'll see.

A noodle here and there and Jam it. Not Toast Jammin , not Music Jammin but Gear Jammin
Been busy loading lots of video from DVD's boy is that time consuming. Now I'm wanting to see it all fast forward!!!
Those Structured Programmers can't Jam It like us noodlers. They just can't. Poor poor souls.
Trial and error will get you there far faster.. Computing isn't rocket science. As long as you have backups give it a try.

The most apt description I've seen yet
-
@SpectateSwamp I started out jamming like a noodler, then learned structured programming, and I don't look back.
I look after systems that are between 10x and 130x larger than SSDS and I don't noodle things in because if I did, I'd end up with a noodle mess where I couldn't find anything after.
Imagine you had ten different programs all as big and complex as SSDS but they're all part of the same system and all have to work together. Jamming things in is guaranteed to work out badly :(

I just realized that the OP is basically the equivalent of getting one of those forever loading screens in Skyrim.
An image, a pithy comment, and rotate.

Many backups were done to CD's Dumb ole music crowd made them rediculously expensive...
Just finished backing up 4 computers. (current, 2 old gateways and my old old build PC) to my 3TB drive.
that along with 3 external drives. 500gb 200gb and 120gb. It sure is nice to have all the files in one spot. There are many many duplicates that won't be hard to get rid of. Way better to have 2 or more copies than just 1.

You probably weren't a good noodler in the first place. How about some flowcharts of these complex systems you tout.

That's a cool picture. How do you have it indexed in SSDS? What's the procedure for pulling it up?

Oldie and logs were part of the search criteria.
Check the size of these horses...

I could but I rather think the point would be lost on you. The point of a flowchart would indicate there is some logic, and ideally some pre-planning of what you're going to build before you build it, the complete opposite of noodling. Which is why I gave it up, because I'd rather decide what I want to build before I build it, and build it in a way I can manage and understand years later.
I have software I wrote 5 years ago that I haven't looked at in three years but I can still follow exactly what it does without consulting a flowchart because it has structure and not noodling.

Compared to horses, all men are a bit challenged. At hauling loads of timber. Wait, what did you think I was talking about?

@HardwareGeek Oh, that's timber? I thought they were giant foam noodles.

The flowchart for the line wrap and high lite was done a couple of years after the code. It just wasn't working perfectly (like it it now) and the flowchart allowed me to fix that.

Only when things get complicated or messy do I flowchart. Most applications don't need flowcharting but some do.I primarily flowchart for myself. Then for those who may want to use and extend it 2nd.

Only if you jam code together. If you have structure that makes sense, you don't need a flowchart.

Dang having all the storage space has changed things for the better.
Now I carry my camcorder way more.
When your data is scattered everywhere and those devices are almost full... One has the tendency to not shoot any.
To add a big clip something has get moved elsewhere or some good old video could be lost.Yup having lots of data space available makes extending and sharing your knowledge less stressful.
-
@SpectateSwamp you should remake SSDs in a newer supported language. I would do it with rails and ember for a GUI

I'd like to do just that. Keeping vb5.0 is ok. Any new helper apps could be developed in any number of languages.
Now that I have the space I will be doing way more video demonstrations...
Nobody Shows Knowledge better than thisI will make the latest source code available in the near future.

@SpectateSwamp I can think of a number of applications that show knowledge better than this.

So do most people today. They call it a 'smartphone'. I can assure that the SD card on my phone can hold more video than all of your videotapes combined.

You just wait I'll show you how to share.
-
@SpectateSwamp there's a button for it available from almost every screen on my phone. Does ssds let me share to Facebook, WhatsApp, twitter, text messages, email and anything else that registers with the OS as something that can share knowledge?
-
@SpectateSwamp said in Nobody shares knowledge better than this:
You just wait I'll show you how to share.
I doubt it. I professionally work on software that shares to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Xing, Viadeo, and Sina Weibo with more to come later in the year. I also have worked on software that enables group collaboration, discussion, file-sharing... both in real-time and over a longer period of time. I've also worked on software that handles searching, and can find text matches faster than SSDS.
As for sharing knowledge... I've seen a lot of sharing of nonsense from you. I've yet to see anything that counts as knowledge being shared. I've also done support over the years for other people using software and taught people how to do things. That's what sharing knowledge means, it means to give people knowledge they didn't have before - except I have yet to see anything I didn't know before, except what nonsense given lexical form looks like.
-
@Jaloopa The share button on smartphones still depend on your friends action to receive and view it. The perfect sharing method would make your video play directly on your friend screen without any action from him.
