A whole power strip for one measly modem?
I hope the $3 doesn't break the bank! But you could amortize the cost by putting your router on the strip as well, if you have a separate one. Then flipping the switch reboots everything.

I don't want to be old.
There's only one way to avoid that, and you're probably not going to like it.
-
@Fox I bet you can't find where I called him stupid, either, except when quoting him.
-
@FrostCat It is a common occurrence to act like insulting someone's intelligence is an effective rebuttal during an argument. I'm not going to spend time searching for some instance in which you did it during an argument against him; I was merely QFTing it because that shit should be on a goddamn discopopup every time anyone clicks Submit on these forums.
-
@Fox said in The Official Status Thread:

But that's not what he said. He said I called him stupid. We're going by his pedantic-dickweedery rules here, because it's what he'd do.

That makes two "longer way to say @frostcat is right" today!

insulting someone's intelligence ~= calling them stupid. I don't care what pedantic dickweedery you want to pull out to carefully delineate the line between the two.
@FrostCat said in The Official Status Thread:

No, that's a shorter "It's probably happened, but whether or not it has happened is irrelevant to my point that that scene is acted out with different players on a pretty much hourly basis on these forums, so i'm not going to waste my time worrying about it"
-
@Fox said in The Official Status Thread:

Blakeydrax doesn't do metaphor, though, therefore if he says I called him stupid, he can only mean I wrote "blakeyrat is stupid" at some point. Which I didn't, and we're playing by his rules, which are normally designed to allow him to flame people. You've been around long enough you should know that.
Also, if he could find me saying that he most certainly would have done so by now, because I've called him on it several times now, and his way of tacit admission of being wrong is to stop responding.
@Fox said in The Official Status Thread:
No, that's a shorter [blah blah blah]
Please keep your demonstrations you don't understand the words other people use in the thread.

@FrostCat, you're an asshole.
-
@aliceif Fuck you, alice. Apparently Blakey can libel me and that's ok, but I can't call him out on it. Please stop stalking me.
-
@Fox Are you Blakey's alt? Did I use the word stupid?
-
@FrostCat Are you new here? Have I demonstrated that I am incapable of metaphor?
-
-
@aliceif Apparently he thinks that it's unusual or suspicious for one of the most popular and active threads on the forum to include both you and him at the same time?
-
@Fox No, he said it before a month or two ago. I don't stalk him, though. I just looked at his recent post list a few seconds ago - I don't even read half the threads he's posted in this week!
-
@aliceif said in The Official Status Thread:
Stalking you? What?
This is the third or fourth time you've jumped into a discussion between me an blakeyrat to insult me or complain about my behavior. Apparently I'm the only person who does things you don't like. So if you think I'm breaking forum rules, then tell me so. Otherwise please stop, or at least turn off your [mod] tag if you're not acting in an official capacity.
-
@aliceif said in The Official Status Thread:

Okay, that actually sounds like cyber stalking.

Apparently you're not stalking her enough. She's done that to several people, including me.
-
@FrostCat said in The Official Status Thread:

That's not possible?
And no, you're not the only person whose behavior bothers me.
-
@aliceif said in The Official Status Thread:

I was going to make a smartass comment about that, but I realized that I didn't know if it was or not, I'd just assumed it wasn't.
-
@aliceif said in The Official Status Thread:

how would I know? I'm not a mod. Perhaps you should act a bit more mature and not insult people while wearing a mod tag, though.
-

This is WTDWTF.
-
@Fox She can sink to the level of other people here all she wants as long as she's not officially representing the forums. If she's going to have her [mod] tag on, she shouldn't be doing that.
I don't try to read every topic around here but I don't recall her insulting anyone else, though.
-

You don't say.
And where the fuck was all of this concern about propriety when I said the same thing about @boomzilla? Oh, right, you were either off doing whatever the fuck else you do and conveniently ignoring the situation, or you were right next to him sinking to the level of other people here.
-
@Fox Fair is fair. @aliceif and @boomzilla--and the rest of the mods--probably should have alts, if there's no way to turn off the mod tag on a given post. Did you expect me to say something else?
-
@FrostCat You want Discourse-style mod-colored posts / something similar to that back?
I guess we could PR that.
-
@FrostCat said in The Official Status Thread:
Did you expect me to say something else?
I was genuinely expecting you to call me stupid again and ignore what I was saying like you usually do.
-
@aliceif said in The Official Status Thread:

Honestly, I think that's probably better than leaving the mod tag on all the time. I will admit to about only half serous above, but the mod tag does imply official sanction to what you're saying, and it really is probably something that should be off unless manually enabled on a post-by-post basis, when you or someone else wants to make explicit you're acting as a mod.
It also protects you, if only slightly, against simple-minded abuse by people adding "[redacted -bz]" or the like to their posts.
-
@Fox said in The Official Status Thread:

tsk, tsk. If I were going to do that, I probably already wouldn't be speaking to you civilly in other threads, don't you think?
BTW, did you notice who once again stepped out after instigating a ?

Nope, someone apparently went and DMCA complained and got my services suspended. I find it ridiculous how easy it is to do this.

Only sometimes.

But srsly, yeah, I've noticed him do that multiple times. Doesn't mean he's always wrong, though.

That proves nothing. No one likes you, so literally anyone could do that to you.

Somewhere in all my junk I have an old school device that was used just for that purpose. It is sort of an early PDU that has a 10Mb ethernet connection on it and also accepts commands to turn individual outlets via serial or ethernet. You should be able to pick one up cheap on eBay as they are basically worthless now.
Coincidentally, there were similar devices on our network when I was in high school. Someone found out the IP addresses and would send telnet commands to it and reboot or shut off random things on the network.

@Magus Standard. We are getting taught how a form builder works, and how those primary keys are related to the foreign keys. They are called buzzwords that basically mask the fact that it is a wrapper around Oracle.
Why can't someone just employ me to build a fucking website, I am a web developer FFS. I advertise myself as a web dev and I haven't built a web site since 2014

Once again, you said it, not me. Apparently you have time to do that, but not time to spend 3 seconds clicking that little search button.
